glane21 Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Years ago I was working at Toys R Us during the christmas season. One night Glenn Danzig's tour bus pulls in so he can shop for action figures. He's like 5 ft tall with a 7 ft body guard who looked like Rob Zombie with a cowboy hat. He was looking for a Batman Legends Riddler, which was hot at the time I guess. So I went in back and found him one. As I was coming back towards him, the body guard almost pummeled me before he realized what I was doing. Danzig said "thanks, man" as I handed him the Riddler. That is all, but the rest of the night we all walked around going "Mother!!" Quote
Noyhauser Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 I'm not very much of a star person. I've met decent few at parties and what not, especially when I was in London, but I really don't care. I work in International Relations, and what really turns my crank is meeting people who actually have made a difference in the world. I mean celebs aren't all that special, but people who work in Foreign affairs are usually very intelligent, and worked exceptionally hard to get to there position. Among other... I've met Romeo Dallaire (the actual basis for the character that Nick Nolte plays in Hotel Rwanda), and last year I met Mohammed El Baradei, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency. I could go on, but I think you get the picture. Quote
Lynx7725 Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Met Tomino, got his autograph for a friend, and thanked him for his work. Years ago. Almost 8 years now, I think. Quote
HWR MKII Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 I have met Gary Sinese, Jeremy Bulloch, David Prowse, Ewan Mcgregor, and Warwick Davis, all of these were while i was out and about not at any kind of convention. My wife ran into Gary later when he was at the base here and he remembered her. That is cool. We didnt rush up and babble to them or hound them with stupid movie questions. We just introduced ourselves and said that we enjoyed their films. Ewan was the best out of all of them though. Wouldnt think he has a liking for tanks. Quote
rnurmin Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 I've met Donnie Yen in Kelly Chen's concert in San Francisco 2 years ago . I met a HongKong actress (forgot her name) in Singapore's airport 3 years ago. The truth is, she did not look like what she was in the movies Quote
Skullsixx Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Let's see... Kevin Nealon (SNL) Alex Lifeson (Rush) Alan Thicke Dan Castalinetta (Homer Simpson) Matt Groening Ron Perlman Glen Danzig David Lee Roth Billy Sheehan (DLR Band/Mr. Big) Gregg Bissonette (DLR Band) DB Sweeney I know there are many others, but I can't think of 'em all right now. Sephiroth Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 I got to hang out with Sean William Scott aka "Stifler" while filming the movie "Road Trip". Quote
bandit29 Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 (edited) A few I guess. Children of Bodom back in March Testament way back in 89 Phil Anselmo from Pantera/Down/SJR. Well sorta. He told us we were idiots for waiting out in the cold(20 degrees in Chicago) for T-shirts and went back in the bus. But he was less then 2 feet from me lol In 2000, I was at WCW's Halloween Havoc in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand. I met a whole bunch of wrestlers there. Booker T, Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio Jr. etc All cool guys. Ric Flair was there too with Curt Hennig. Didn't get to talk to Ric but his stupid son David was there (with Stacy Keibler). As heard from Ric Flair "David, shut up, go away and stop embarrasing me". Al Snow, awesome guy. Really cool. Mick Foley....douchebag, made little girls cry at an autograph signing because he wouldn't sign or take pictures with them. He would for the little boys though...hmmm jerk. Kevin Nash....farting tool Rob Van Dam back in the original ECW. cool guy Edited June 19, 2006 by dejr8bud Quote
Eternal_D Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 I see famous ppl every once in a while in hollywood...I don't go up and bother them cuz they're just going about their daily business. saw tyra banks on a date at miyagi's like 7 years ago. seen tommy lee and briney spears at white lotus. seen kobe bryant once at south coast plaza. saw the actor who played sam in lord of the rings at a hotel, the girl that was with him was pretty hot. pretty sure i've seen more, friends point them out and I'll be like "who??" I don't care much for celebs either... Quote
Capt Hungry Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 (edited) I once met Vendela Thomasson - Sports Illustrated swim suit model. I had all intentions of treating her like everyone else, shook her hand and promptly forgot how to talk............ Talk about embarrasing!!! Also met Hugh Jackman and his wife. He'e a really decent person and his wife is a sweetie. My GF and I saw Hugh in The Boy From Oz and had an opportunity to have our picture taken with him after the show as part of some AIDS related fund raising. Although in the picture, I look a little possessed............. Edited June 19, 2006 by Capt Hungry Quote
areaseven Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Just yesterday, I sold a couple of R/C hovercrafts to George Lopez. My boss and co-worker weren't even aware of who he was. Aside from that, here are my other run-ins: PC Club Computers (Burbank, CA) Nikki Fritz (softcore B-movie actress) Thom Barry (Agent Bilkins in The Fast and the Furious and 2 Fast 2 Furious) Bob Justman (former Star Trek producer) RVD's 5-Star Comics (Lakewood, CA) Rob Van Dam (he owns the shop, anyway) Lita Ivory Al Snow I also met Chris Benoit, but the douchebags running the shop were charging $20 to take pics. AMC Theatres (Woodland Hills, CA) David Carradine Mike Tyson AnimeExpo Tomokazu Seki Yoko Ishida Wizard World Comic Convention Catherine Bach (the original Daisy Duke) Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson (she's a redhead in real life) Erin Gray (Wilma in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century) San Diego Comic Convention Diamond Dallas Page I'd say that's about it for now. Otherwise, I usually meet up with Playboy Playmate Tiffany Taylor every year at the SDCC. Quote
mikeszekely Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Ah, I almost forgot. Olympic medalist and Shop n' Save spokesmodel Mary Lou Retton used to shop at the Ames I worked at while I was in college. Also while I was in college, I met the Dalai Lama. Quote
Jolly Rogers Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Met Shoji Kawamori at AX a few years back, shook the man's hand, worshipped him and got his artbook autographed. There are too many to list, so I'll just name-drop the ones I remember off the top of my head: - John Woo: very nice and mellow, this was around the time Face/Off was coming out - Ang Lee: this was at a Chinese restaurant in Rowland Heights around the time when Eat Drink Man Woman was released in the US, before he started making US features like Ice Storm. My GF at the time got his autograph on a napkin... LOL - Michelle Yeoh: I think it was around the time Supercop came out in the US. She was incredibly hot and sweet as a person, kind of sucked how she was cast as the 'old woman' only a few years later in Crouching Tiger. - Gary Willis: met him several times around L.A. He also played/hosted clinic at USC around the time he was in Tribal Tech with Scott Henderson. - Bryan Singer: met him at Comic Con when the first X-Men was coming out. We shook hands and talked a bit about his earlier work but he seemed a bit frazzled, really nice and mellow guy though. - Both George Lucas and Steven Spielberg received their honorary doctoral degrees and spoke at my graduation ceremony in '94. - Robin Shou, aka Liu Kang from the Mortal Kombat movies. Awesome dude, enough said. Wish he gets more work in the movies. - Megadeth in the early 1990s... got my guitar autographed by the Rust in Peace lineup in Orange County. Mustaine's voice was surprisingly nasal and feminine. Marty loved my Ibanez JEM, and Jeff Ellefson was quiet as usual. Sightings: - Pamela Anderson with her baby at Malibu - Linda Hamilton at a restaurant in Malibu - Angelyne in her pink 'Vette on PCH - Flavor Flav outside the Beverly Hills Hard Rock Cafe, this was way back in the early 1990s, and he wore a huge clock on his chest - Sylvester Stallone at the Sunset Tower Records, think this was around the time The Specialist was coming out Quote
SpacePirateNeko Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 (edited) I work at LAX to pay for school/apt, to make a long story short, ive met everyone. Tinderfitles Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Ron White when he did a show in savannah, his tire fell off and well he wasnt to happy of a camper so i offered to help him push it to a nearby firestone, however by this point the police came and the manager of the sears was there offering him free stuff for life. It was pretty cool, hes a seriously funny guy. Quote
reddsun1 Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Well, I've met and talked with former NFL player Ed Reynolds [Patriots, Giants] a few times. His uncle is married to my father's sister. His brother was also one of my teachers in elementary school. I remember back in '85 when they made their first Super Bowl appearance, teach pulled some strings and got Ed to drop by our class one day. Not only were we stoked about seeing an NFL player, but what really took the cake was when he introduced his wife. Just imagine a room full of 10 yr old boys, all flabbergasted and mouths agape--man oh man, she was hottie gorgeous! If somebody had taken a picture, I'm sure it woulda been pretty funny You could almost hear the collective "whoooooa" come from the room full of awestruck boys, under our breath all at once. Have met him a few times in later years, he was gracious and pretty cool. Used to hang around in the paddocks at race events rubbin elbows with some cool cats too. Paul Newman, Derrick Bell, Bobby Rahal, Kyle Petty, Boris Said, etc. Hung around chatting with my boss and his old chum--and former World Champion--Brian Redman after an event one time. Used to go next door at work and shoot the bull with Le Mans winner Price Cobb, talk about race cars, old Mustangs and stuff like that. Um, let's see, oh yeah, Peter Klutt from Dream Car Garage. You meet all sorts of entrepeneurs and business moguls at vintage races too, like the heir to the Scott [yeah, paper towels and t-paper] company; nice old guy. The guy who owns the Greased Lightning company that makes all those auto oils and products and such. The real captains of industry, the guys who're really loaded out the arse with money and influence, you'd walk right by 'em and wouldn't even recognize or assume who they are, until you meet them and hear them talk about their businesses and such. Noriko Takaya Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Well, I met President Reagan while I was in the Marine Corps and he shook hands with everyone in my platoon. I also got to meet one of Japan's original J-pop idols, Akina Nakamori after a concert she performed at in Tokyo many moons ago. God, what a beautiful woman... Other than that, I met Burt Reynolds when I was a kid, and also bumped into Scott Baio and Michael Douglas. And that's my claim to fame. Quote

Flaming Guantlet Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 The closest I'v came to ever meeting anyone famous was Arnold Schwarzenegger, when campaigning for Governor of Califonia at the Califonia State Fair back in '03. I was working at the time as a puppeteer. I though I try to catch his attention while doned in a giraffe puppet suit. Many jounalists surounded me abuzz about Arnold yet here I am sticking out like a 16ft. sore thumb. I never did get Arnie's attention but I did piss off a few cameramen so I settle for that. Quote
Nied Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 I met Lou Reed while working at a RadioShack in Boston, sold him some cables he needed for his concert that night. Later on when they shifted me to a store downtown I met General Wes Clark at a book signing during the Democratic National Convention. That same week I also spotted Hilary Clinton with fellow NY Senator Chuck Schumer, and Ben Affleck. A week later I saw Steven King leaving a book signing at the same store I met Gen. Clark. Since moving to SF the only person I've met is Bill Simmons, and had him sign a copy of his new book for my fiance (she a huge Red Sox fan and reads his column on ESPN.com religiously). Quote

He does a lot of book signings...! Oh, and Tom Baker. What a wonderful grin that man has! My brothers met Richard Ashcroft (formerly of UK band The Verve) and Noel Gallagher from Oasis.
