agass4u Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Why is it that model companies never make any new models out of the different types of mecha in Macross. Now im talking about injection models, not resin ones. Would it be that hard for Hasegawa to make a destroid model, or a Regult Battle pod? They are doing great things for the Valks, but there is more to the series than just transformng planes. If they are so committed to making Valk models, then why don't they make the best design that has been made for the Valks. They went ahead and made the Minmei Guard (Which was in Model Graphix), why can't they make the Armored Valk that was also in Model Graphix? Either they feel there is no money in it, or they can't get the rights for the designs somehow. Does anyone know why things are this way? Quote
Myersjessee Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 I would imagine some of it is rights, some of it is their speciality. Hasegawa is well known for jets....to do the VF1 was a bit of a stretch...to turn it into a battroid...a bit more. I think they will get to other things eventually (I would love to see them) but we need to be patient and give them time. Right now they are maximizing their investment in the VF molds...in time Im sure we'll see more. (or I hope) Quote
Grayson72 Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 It's just about money, you wouldn't believe how difficult and expensive a steal mold costs (especially one that's of there high standards). Why do you think Legos are so expensive? They know the sales of a VF-1 is a sure thing and they could reuse the molds for almost every VF-1 plan kit they made. Now suppose they want to make a Phalanx Destroid, there's only one variation of that and how many people would buy one? The Battle pods just don't make sense though, that can make one basic mold and have 3 more variations on it, that totally fits their model. Oh well. Grayson72 Quote
VF-17 Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Well, with the destroids, the legs are exactly the same. Aren't they? I can't remember. They would just need runners for the torsos and arms. That should lower the cost a bit. Quote
Alpha Omega Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 (edited) I dunno. The valks are cool an all, but a bit tedious. I'd love to see a Zentradi mech or Destroid made by Hasegawa. Edited August 22, 2003 by Alpha Omega Quote
Gabe Q Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 I wish Hasegawa would make some 1/72 Regults. That isn't gonna happen though. It's too much of a risk. It would cost too much to produce and sales are not guaranteed like the valks. Still, I can imagine how beautiful a set of Hasegawa destroids would look. I can dream, can't I? Quote
Commander McBride Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 You're not likely to see enemy mecha, because of the nature of Japanese fans. Unlike americans, who love to have every little minor character and mecha, the Japanese fans generraly prefer to only have the main characters. That's why there are so many more Gundam kits than Zeon or CF feddie kits. (Except in the HGUC line, which exists to make obscure and unpopular mecha.) Quote
Yoshi Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 I would the hobby companies to focus a little more on ships when it comes to famous anime series. I mean we have a gazillion of Valkyries plamodels, but no decent, affordable SDF-1 Macross. And of course there are a lot of Macross ships that should be made into kits (ARMD, Oberth, Megaroad etc...) I'm a big fan of Miyatake designs, and I think his stuff deserves some plamo rendition Same thing goes with Gundam. Yeah, it's nice to see the RX-78 Gundam rendered in plamo from the original version to the Unit N°246225 piloted by Bobby Nocontinuity in the latest side story. But where are my Ra Cailum and my Reinforce Jr. kits ? I DEMAND ANIME SHIPS PLAMODELS !! Quote

It's actuallt be pretty cool to have them not as models, but as diecast display ships, like the semi-recent bandai Arcadia and Yamato. Edit: typo Edited August 22, 2003 by Commander McBride Quote

I would also like to like see model kits for the SDF-2 or Megaroad (Flashback). Model kits will just be fine. Resin kits are just more expensive though I bought a resin for the Macross Battle. I don't believe they have made a model kit for the Battle 7 or even the city. Talking about ships, I do have a question regarding the Megaroad (Flashback). Are those "glass" between the ship's "skeletons"? I know the city is located in the front part of the ship but what is encapsulating the city? If it is glass, wouldn't it be easy for the enemies to destroy the city? Quote

As far as I know, it's indeed glass. Maybe some kind of future-super-strong-glass, but some kind of glass anyway. It's a very weak point of the design, but you got to remember the Megaroad-class emigration ship was built (or should I say scratch built ? ) from the hull of the unfinished 2nd Macross-class warship. It isn't the best planned design of the world, and that's probably why the Megaroads are afforded large escorts of Zentradi/UN ships. Quote
