Yes the VF-0A head can tilt up quite a way. See attached photo.

Are you are extending the neck first, by pulling up on the head?

Graham

DOH!! I didn't!

Guess that's why it couldn't budge......and serves me right for not looking at the manual.

Thanks Graham.

Phew....got my head out of the neck just like Graham's. Mine was exceptionally tight. After tugging at it for awhile and quite sure it won't budge, i dismantled the head from the neck plate and tugged at it some more. It still wont budge. Then i took a mini screw driver put it between the chin the neck, pop it, and voila, it pops up. Now its not as tight but still pretty tight.

OK I am frigging retarded, my VF-0A backpack is floppy and unlike the Vf-1 I don't see the flip-clip to hold it up, what am I missing? Anyone ot a top-down picture of their VF-0A or S that shows how the back-pack clips? I know I am missing something simple but the manual doesn't show it, and I just can't seem to find it....

i had the same problem last night but i figured out the backpack hinge hinges upward.

its weird to describe, but unlike the VF-1 backpack hinge design which sits flush to the back of the valk, the VF-0 backpack hinge was designed to hinge upward to hold backpack firm....does that make sense?

Heresy! The 1/48 line will not be complete until we have a VF-1D and, if we're really lucky, a VT-1 and VE-1 as well :D

No way... it's still #1 in my book in terms of looks, playability, and awsome-osity. Of course, I haven't opened my 0A yet, which is currently sitting in a box under my workstation :p .

There's no reason for the VF-1 1/48 to be obsolete seeing as it's the best VF-1 ever made. Comparing the Vf-1 to the VF-0 is kinda touch and go....

i hear ya, but i can't help but to notice was is and what was. i know comparing the 2 isn't really fair, its like people who compare the 1/48 to the MPC, but now its the 1/60 to the 1/48.

i know this sounds silly and please nobody kill me but, it almost hurts my eyes to look at the 1/48 now, i honestly don't think i'll ever buy another 1/48 VF-1 again(outside of the 2 seaters).

getting back to the 0A,

so i got to play with it some more and noticed the angled landing gears, poseable clicky thighs, front landing gear light, angled landing gears, the adjustable backpack thrusters, how the feet slide left and right.....and did i forget to mention the super dope angled landing gears?!?!? thats right, i mentioned it 3 times but thats how freakin awesome that feature is! B)) i should probably look at the booklet but real men don't use instructions, thats for girls. :D

I haven't opened my 0A yet, which is currently sitting in a box under my workstation :p .

i can hear it whispering all the way here in NYC..."free me ghostryder, free me"!

wait till you play with it and you'll see what i'm talking about.

yes i'm currently suffering from new valk syndrome but i love it! :D

the VF-0 series just rules.

other than the features mentioned by haterist, it also has recessed arms that don't hang down in fighter mode, the canopy has less distortion and the the swing bar lock in the nose is so much easier to use than the two swing plugs on the 1/48. and with the collapsing trunk, the legs look longer and more porporioned in battroid mode.

now if yamato could only get the feet to lock in place in battroid mode...

They have. The VF-0A's feet do, well on the two I have anyway.

Yes. Now they need to make a 1/60 perfect transformation VF-1 with all of the bad-assedness of the VF-0's (and no low-hanging-shoulders in fighter mode or bulbous canopy).

Thanks for the assist Graham, WolfX and Haterist! I went home last night and gave it a little more scrutiny, I didn't see the second hinge in the backpack joint, and it was really tight which made me think I was going to break it. Anyhow, after I got that I started working on the neck joint and I finally got that loose. It was sealed up almost lilke it had been glued, but I am fully functional now!

I still love my Hikaru 1S more than a man should love a toy, but this VF-0A is probably my second favorite valk, something about the color and design just sit well with me.

Thanks again.

Opened mine up. Happy to report that all the joints and connection tabs that were loosey goosey on the 0S are tighter on my 0A (not 1/48-tight, but noticeably tighter). The only exception is the left shoulder. The locking tilting feet are a nice improvement, as is the tighter backpack.

I did notice it's a bit harder to overlap the wings in battroid, maybe because of the extra layers of paint on the wing flaps. The swing bar hinge also rubs against the inner wing paint. Anybody experience any paint wear or scratching?

I like the VF-0 fighter mode more.

The VF-1 Batt and Gerwalk modes more.

And the VF-1s GBP and FAST packs are way better then the VF-0s'.

BTW, just got my first 1/60 VF-0. I love the pivoting rear landing gear but am I doing something wrong or is it supposed to be a biatch to get it deployed? It seems to be scraping hard against the gear doors when I prise it out.

And are the rudders supposed to be so floppy?

Yeah, the landing gear are a pain on mine too. And the rudders are a bit floppy. What's really loose on mine, though, is the right shoulder; it can't even hold the gun without falling. Still, it's perfect looking. I wish the VF-1s were so perfect.

Christ, I can practically see through mine if I hold them up to a light...

Got my VF-0A last week but was too sick to panel line it.

Just finished it today. here's a pic.

IPB Image

It's fast becoming my favorite VF because it's such an accurate representation of the plane shown in the anime. The color difference between de different grays is perfect. (in certain lights its not even noticeable, although that might be because I'm slightly colorblind ;) )

All it needs now is a Ghost to strap on its back and it'll be perfect.

BTW, I put the white missiles from Roy's VF-0S on it because I think it looks more realistic. I just don't believe a carrier would have different colored missiles to put on each color of VF. I know, I know, why would a squadronleader fly a bright white VF with black and yellow stripes all over it if he could just fly a well camouflaged one instead? Just call it selective realism. And it looks better too. :p

To instill fear into the hearts of the enemy.

"OMG....its bright yellow....its pineapple-salad-focker!!! Run for your lives!"

Hi Everyone

Just opened the box for the vf-0a: Purchased from Samurai Monkey from JAPAN

Plane "looked" nice, not as sturdy as a vf-1 1/48, but very good none-the less. Was expecting the same crapiness/looseness as the vf-0s from the reviews (boy what a dissapointing toy that was), and pictures looked like it was not great at all. OMG, it is a MUCH improved toy over the vf-0s. Transformation felt more sturdy, not as good as a 1/48, but much better than the vf-0s.

Legs feel very good, and so do the arms. Much sturdier, though not perfect as a 1/48. Color, WOW, in robot mode, its really a good feeling to have this in your room. I can never afford the low vis 1, so this is the replacement, and a damn good one too. The head is very beautiful. One fault though, the canon on the head is too loose. Also, it seems the opening area for the weels on the leg is as loose as the vf-0s, which is ok if you are planing to keep this one in robot mode (plane mode looks good too, but the robot mode is just superb) Now, the wrist seems more sturdy, but on the right arm, it wont stay closed on the gun, so have to switch it to right hand. Oh, and i put the Skull logo on the windshield oh course, and displayed it with my stealth (no armor), and yea, they look like they got their own team now!!!

All in all, very happy, much improved toy over the vf-0s, and this one is worth me keeping. The fact that there is less tampoo is a shame, but can always buy decals for it so its not a big issue.

Improvements:

1) Knees much sturdier, and maybe even better than 1/48

2) Backpack is improved, and maybe even better than 1/48

3) The feet feel different, more articulation and sturdier

4) Arms sturdier

5) Transformation feels more fulfilling

6) Personnel Opinion: Color and head are much better, holy coolness, good job Yamato.

Faults:

1) Leg opening for weels is sloppy like the vf-0s

2) Head Cannon too loose

3) Less Tampoing

4) The back wings dont hold like on a 1/48. IN fact, for sturdiness, in plane mode, the 1/48 just kills it. For looks, the vf-0a is nicer, though i love the 1/48 look as well.

5) on my toy, the right wrist seems a bit faulty, doesnt stay in the position i want it too, whilst the left one does, probably a small quality issue problem.

Anyways, my opinion on this one is, GET IT. And my opinion the vf-0s, wait for more improvements, my first version is a piece of &*^#$%$#!!!!!

Thanks for the review. Maybe you should try to sell your old VF0S for cheap for when the next VF0S come out with the VF0A improvments?

VF0S with stiff joints and tampo printing with reactive armor is going to kick ass but I'm too scared to get a loose one so I'm going to wait till yamato perfect and refine this close to 1/48 level. Fighter mode of the zero line is my fave mode. I'm going to leave my VF0S in reactive armor, while the 0A is going to be equiped with ghost booster. Next up: VF0D?

i assume you pushed the backpack hinge up so the wings can fit a little better? i know it was tighter before i noticed the whole backpack piece hinges upward.

so far i haven't noticed any paint wear, but i'm worried about it. i'm trying to keep TFing and handling to a minimum and pray it doesn't get jacked.

and as far as landing gears, yeah there a total pain to pull out, like my fingernails are getting ripped off, but its still one of the freshest features on this thing.

Yamato! Fold the damb fins on the Zeros when you pack them.

MY VF-0A arrived with the same broken fins as my 0S.

sorry to hear that dude but there is one plus side,

the tailfins are removeable which means you can get replacements without having to ship back the entire valk. i know its not what you want to hear but things could be worse.

Terribly sorry to hear about that man.

Looks like Yamato's QC is getting better.

Just got mine in the mail today.... and whooooboy is this thing gorgeous. Fighter mode is amazing... not quite as solid as the 1/48 but infinentaly prettier. Only thing that stinks is that there's a big superglue fog mark on the top inside of the right intake... some paint'll fix that tho. Transformation seems a tad bit finickyer...maybe because I was being super careful, as opposed to the relatively rough handling I'm comforatable wtih my 1/48s. GERWALK mode is stunning... much better than the 1/48. Battroid mode is pure toy porn... simply gorgeous. Articulation is great, no loose joints, just not quite as tight as the 1/48... incredibly detailed and awesome to look at....I can't wait to get some decals made and do a full over job on this thing...it's gonna look gorgeous.

I noticed that the chicken hands seem to have gotten worse, tho.... I actually use the chicken hands on some of my 1/48s, but the overall fit with the gunpod in hand seems less well off here...especially gtting the trigger finger into the trigger slot... I think we need some fixed pose hands that swap at the wrist joint so they still have both rotation and the other joint.... someone get on that, stat!

I was also really impressed with the feet.... the detial on the exhaust and the fan not splitting really make that part pop....

Me too. If/when it comes out.

I'm betting on them doing it. If we can assume the vf-0 was done due to its similarity to the existing vf-1 toys, then I will assume the similarity between GBP and reactive armor means at some point we could get it.

They decided to do the ghost booster which is essentially just a fast pack so far at least.. I love the concept of a mecha that can wear and eject armor and shoot missiles all over the place like it is a last desperate attempt to survive against all odds. ( a bit like the idea of the SDF-1 main gun which is the ship equivalent of an over-the-top super move that kill everything in one clean sweep) Missile swarms are the cool thing about macross.

The bad guys never seem to have as good ideas as un spacy though. I wonder if the zentradi would ever come up with thier own version of GBP for the transforming gluag in future or something? In gundam each side copies all the ideas of the other and made thier own versions of things.
