eugimon Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 So.... I'm wondering, even though Shadow is a US production and the american voice actors are the original.. will i like a japanese language dub better? Quote
Keith Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 I'm actually surprised HG didn't digitize the comics themselves & include a PDF on the DVD, would have made a hell of a lot more sense. Quote

lord_breetai Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Shadow Chronicles is OK, but no more than that. I don't recall anyone at Robotech.com actually writing this in any of the forums, but I get the feeling that many Robotech fans regard this as Robotech's "Do You Remember Love?" Perhaps it is. The movies' relationship to their respective fictional universes are different, but they are both big budget (relatively speaking in terms of Shadow Chronicles), high-quality (relatively speaking in terms of Shadow Chronicles), theatrically-released (relatively speaking in terms of Shadow Chronicles) movies based, in one way or another, on their respective shows. Sad. At least one person made that comment in one of the threads. And that's the funniest thing I've read or heard all week. Thanks. Quote

Mercurial Morpheus Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Harrumph! I spose I could. I will probably have time this weekend. Somebodies already beaten you too it. You can get them off Demonoid. Some of those things mentioned ar rather weird to wrap one's mind around. Quote
Nied Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 I knew someone would misinterpret that comment. The point was only that the style of the two is radically different... It just seems like it'd look very funny having them fly off into combat together. Edited - my post sounded a bit pissy. There's actually a brief glimpse of an Alpha prototype in the "From the Stars" comic that does a decent job of bridging the stylistic gap between the two, complete with "screw" style multipurpose hook/handle vernier thrusters and a more rounded VF-1 like nose. Speaking of SC I have yet find it near me here in San Francisco. Granted I haven't been looking to hard (mostly stores near my office in the financial district), but so far I haven't seen it in two Borders, a Virgin Megastore, and CompUSA. Makes me miss the Tower Records that used to be less than a block from my apartment. Any Bay area MWers seen it in the city? Quote
promethuem5 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I haven't seen SC and probably won't bother... but i just wanted to chime in after Nied, the "From the Stars" comic is probably the single best piece of semi-original material Robotech has spawned... if you didn't like Mac0, then it's not a bad prequel story, and the art is kind of fun compared to the current HG 'style'... Quote
lord_breetai Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I think if we have to compare the artwork in Robotech to something it should not be true japanese anime. It should be with its own kind pseudo-anime produced in the US or in Europe. I'm talking about Martin Mystery, Winx Club, Totally Spies and the like. Compared to those, Robotech is pretty solid. But compared to something like Ghost in the Shell or the Sakura Taisen movie, it can't stand up. Quote

Try Target. Just picked up a copy when I was shopping for some kitchen related items. I didn't know anything was in the works. I have my hesitations for anything robotech but the production values looked promising. Quote

promethuem5 Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 My mom called me from Target asking if I wanted some new Robotech movie, and I had to quickly explain to her that it wasn't worth the plastic of the DVD... Quote
Ishimaru Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Can we like stop all the criticism here, it sounds more like bashing. It's gone to a point in the thread in which in anyone can criticize Robotech and not get criticism pointed at their faces. But seriously, I didn't see one intentional positive comment on the movie. The CG isn't all that bad, animation is pretty nice for Korean or whoever made it, characters look good, what else do I have to say? I don't see anyone here making a Macross 8 or whatever, so why do we have to bash the movie this bad? Quote

One of the better American attempts at imitating anime. It did motivate me to want to watch Robotech (only the last 2 parts, still can't sit through the macross saga) I do hope this leads to a series or something. It'll be nice to have a very clear division between Macross and Robotech finally. Then, the Robotech fans can do their own thing and the Macross fans can do their thing, too. Quote
kensei Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Didn't Punky Brewster have to get her's reduced in size? Sure jugs that huge are good at strip club but won't they get in the way of flighting a plane? I remember my cousin watching that crap during the afternoon. I was little at the time and pissed off, so i always went out and played sport. But now, bloody hell, that actress, Soleil de Frye or something or other, is damn hot, even after the breast reduction. Quote
Arthurius Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Hi, I bought the Movie, and watched it last night, and I absolutely loved it, even if it didnt really follow the 3rd series very well, i really enjoyed it and would love to see more of it. I loved the characters, i loved the animation, and i liked the story as well, and i loved the mechas (alpha with betas, though the cyclones didnt look too great here) I do wish Yamato or another company which makes "quality toys" (NOT toynomy) to remake the alphas and betas from the movie, and that they made it as big as a 1/48th, or minimum as a 1/60 vf-1. Yeah. Soleil got so big that she had chronic back problems. When I take over the world, I will mandate such medical procedures a crime and punish accordingly. Every woman should be made to look like Ariel, Janice and the other women in SC... pic removed by EXO... link had adult link piccies on the side. Edited February 19, 2007 by >EXO< Quote
The Flying Monkey Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 (edited) The CG isn't all that bad Arrgh! Compared to Macross Zero, the CG in Shadow Chronicles looks like Fisher-Price toys dangling from a string. That photo looks like Soleil Moon Frye's body PS'd onto a porno actress's head. Shows like firefly and BSG really showed how you could make CG sequences look more true to life by having more organic camera moves. Quote
terry the lone wolf Posted February 19, 2007 Author Posted February 19, 2007 Wow! A ROBOTECH thread becoming a Soliel Moonfrye pic thread! Mind you I'm not complaining; Punky is HOT!!!!!! Quote
EXO Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I saw a movie with Punky pre-breast reduction playing a camp counselor... she was always trying to hide them and at one funny point she had two little kids infront of her and she was trying to squeeze their heads together to cover up and ginormouse boobies... Anyway... back to discussing the crappy cartoon. Quote
big F Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 (edited) Well I saw most of it last night and it was a lot better than i was expecting. at times the animation was a bit flat and some times the VA didnt seem to but up to scratch but al in all not sp bad. Fairly standard good triumphs over evil Robotech stuff. On par with other newwave American/Korean stuff. Remember this was concieved about 5 years ago so its already out of date before they realeased it. At least now Robotech is going in its own direction and can be considered as its own entity. I just gotta get me a copy of it now so I can see the whole thing dam stupid corrupted bittorents. Well I guess its off to the Animecornershop.com for me, I need the next Planetes box set anyhow. Ladic Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 frankly i think the animation on this thing is crap, the movie wasnt that bad, but the cgi was awful and the 2d animation was terrible. The original macross/mospeada had much better and fluid animation and that was 20 years ago. Quote
jenius Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 The original macross/mospeada had much better and fluid animation and that was 20 years ago. Oh man, it must have been a LONG time since you've watched the originals. I sat down with them not too long ago and was actually quite surprised at just how bad the animation is at times. Shadow Chronicles doesn't have good animation but it's consistent and the characters/mechs never get randomly deformed, change colors, or skip 10-50 frames for abrupt uber choppiness. Quote
Arthurius Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 I really dont understand why pll say the graphic isnt good. Even if it was the case, the story is good, the characters are good, and personaly, i love the graphics too. Quote
RDClip Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Arrgh! Compared to Macross Zero, the CG in Shadow Chronicles looks like Fisher-Price toys dangling from a string. I don't think anyone was expecting it to be as good as Mac 0. Considering that HG probably didn't have as much money as BW, i think it was pretty good. Well...it was on par with TV anime CG. Quote
Chewie Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 (edited) I want an hour and a half of my life back. My buddy who's two years into ITT's Computer Animation course was watching it over my shoulder and giggling his head off. SO glad I decided to DL this instead of buying it. Man... I thought Tatsunoko (sp) was fighting HG, or was that just Big West? Why is their name on this fetid POS? Also, whatever happened to good, old school animation? Why in the HELL do all these companies insist on this CG crap? Mainframe had it down, but this stuff (yeah, including Mac 0) is lazy and stupid looking. It just looks horrible.
