No links to share, but i heard it over the radio today that Jet Li (who claimed that Fearless was his last action movie) is pretty much 90% agreeable to act in the Tekken Live action movie as the character Boxer.

Good/bad news for Jet Li fans....bad news for Tekken fans.

My brother told me about this movie a month ago and I hope it lives up to the video game and that the creators don't screwup this movie and make it look like crap because I think that would serioisly hurt the game franchise alot. If this movie does poorly, then we can expect not to see another Tekken game for 5-7 years.

I doubt it. Even with the flop of all the other mediums (toys, anime, clothing etc) the games still thrive with the next one being one of the most anticiptaed fighting games ever.

And since when is there something wrong with Jet-Li?

I didn;t like his hollywood films much actually. But "The One" was pretty entertaining. ;)

Who the hell is 'Boxer'?! I played all the PS1 and PS2 Tekken games and the closest thing I can think of is Steve Fox, who is a British boxer, whose fighting style is about as far away as you can get from Jet Li's martial arts style.

Yeah, that's why they stopped making Final Fantasy movies after The Spirits Within bombed.

If you're going to say dumb things, keep them to yourself.

I have no f-ing idea as well. I wasn't much of a tekken fan so i thought i may have just missed out on a character. But that's what the radio said.

Crap game/franchise never liked it since the first one, Virtua Fighter all the way  :)

No way! Soul Calibur, beyotch! You can't block a katana with your arm! :D

But yeah, a Tekken movie has "bad news" written all over it.

Hurry up and get started on a Rumble Roses already.

I'd buy that for a dollar.

It would most probably be porn. :p

But it'd be better than the DOA movie...

my vote is for a DOA movie. Just a bunch of pornstars fighting each other....yeah!!!

There already is a DOA movie.

I'm not a big fan of Devon Aoki, but I must admit she's got a cute little butt.

Yeah, DOA movie should be out soon (if not out already).... but man!, even the girls casting SUCK big time!! There's no way to save that "movie".... hell, even that "german director" may have chosen better l( o )( o )king girls, if you know what I mean ;)

Anyway.... Jet Li is the best option for a character in a fighting-game-based movie... What? you wanted Van Damme? ¬¬

Meh I only cared to see Lateef Crowder as Eddy Gordo which looks damn good though i know the scene will last all of 2 seconds, also why is Christie Montero who is a dark skinned Brazilian in the game white in the movie? They seemed to try hard to somewhat match everyone to their game counter part except that. You mean to tell me you couldn't find a Brazilian or dark skinned actress that doesn't know Capoeira? Some how I doubt that. I normally don't really bother with these issues, but everyone else seems pretty accurate for the most part and that just annoys me they got lazy there.

So we all know that majority of these live-action fighting game adaptations are crap, but what's your prediction on this film? Will it be decent like the first Mortal Kombat film, or absolute crap like, let's say, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li?

Posted

I predict that Tekken will at least be somewhere between DOA: Dead or Alive and Double Dragon*, but still below Street Fighter: The Movie.

(*Yes, I know Double Dragon wasn't a fighting game to begin with, but when the movie came out, a fighting game was made for it.)

jet li never said Fearless was his last action movie, just his last traditional wushu movie. BIG difference.

Yeah, but did that work on the Dead or Alive movie?

Me thinks this film has a higher fetish factor  This one looks like it's trying to ape the original Mortal Kombat (which I hear they're remaking)

Synopsis

The year is 2037. After global wars devastated nearly all of civilization on Earth, the planet's nations are under the control of multi-billion dollar corporations. The continent of North America is run by the mighty Mishima Zaibatsu, who hosts the annual King of Iron Fist Tournament - also known as Tekken.

After witnessing the death of his mother at the hands of Mishima's troops, Jin Kazama breaks his mother's promise and enters the Tekken tournament not only for victory, but to kill Heihachi. This fighter from the slums of Anvil quickly becomes "the people's choice" after proving himself in a tryout match against Marshall Law, but upon entering Tekken City, he discovers that Heihachi is the least of his worries.

Lowdown

Oh. My. God. I have just seen an awesome film. It is the absolute best film ever made.

We all know that these live-action film adaptations stop at nothing to deface our favorite video games. But in the case of Tekken, it's different. If you're a fan of the first three games, go grab your pitchforks. This film practically takes the most-established fighters - such as Marshall Law, Yoshimitsu and the Williams sisters - and turns them into complete jobbers. And since I retired after Tekken 3, I don't know characters like Christie Monteiro, Steve Fox (not that he fought at all), Miguel Caballero Rojo or Sergei Dragunov - all of which have more screen time than they deserve.

Also, major game subplots such as the Devil Gene are thrown out the window. One result of this change is Kazuya turning from a vengeance-ridden fighter into Heihachi's henchman. Lame.

Perhaps the film's biggest crime is the complete mutilation of Heihachi Mishima's character. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa looks horrible. Whoever did his hair and makeup should be drawn and quartered. Even worse is that he doesn't even last through half of the movie.

But what about the fight scenes? They're actually very watchable, compared to other fighting game adaptations. The only drawback is the rather cheesy approach - the arena supposedly generates pseudo-holograms of stages based on the games.

Overall, while it's better than the Street Fighter films, Double Dragon, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and DOA: Dead or Alive, it still is an abomination to the video game industry. At least it will make you forget about the lousy anime adaptation from over a decade ago.
