Hey guys, what happen to the urge for a good meal??? Mind you, Motoko only drinks petrol, so your candle light menu might be alittle limited...hang on....what the hell does she eats anyway???

OK, we now had the period talks, aerobic suit, tentacle rape, cyber-space lesbian porn and now enter Miss Central Russia, this is getting exciting .

Um..m, Russian chick, um...m, can they cook???

Also, about freaking time somebody voted for my Goddess Kyoko!!!!! ...thank you Fortress_Maximus.

Maybe, but if you've ever been in an abusive relationship, you probably won't think that way for too long. Emotional abuse, yes I said it, she emotionally abused Godai so badly it is so not funny. As someone once said, "men go through hell for the woman they love, sadly the woman just does not realize it".

Also bear in mind, her jealously hurts those closest to her. She lashes out with the intent to harm; her words alone can inflict more damage than a knife to a young suitors heart. I for one lost count, how many times she left Godai in a drunken stupor trying to numb the heartache she caused. And lets not forget what happens when she feels she has been wronged, oh boy. Often times, as we all know, it is all due to a misunderstanding on her part, and her redefining of the word stubbornness is beyond legendary.

Besides these flaws, Kyoko is a gem. But seriously, if she were alive, she'd need anger management classes.

When a man loves a woman

CanĂ¢â‚¬â„¢t keep his mind on nothinĂ¢â‚¬â„¢ else

HeĂ¢â‚¬â„¢d trade the world

For a good thing heĂ¢â‚¬â„¢s found

If she is bad, he canĂ¢â‚¬â„¢t see it

She can do no wrong

Turn his back on his best friend

If he puts her down.

Specially fabricated robo-food that looks like real food.

No, I'm not making this up. 'S in the author's notes in the graphic novel(original release, anyways. I HOPE they kept those for the reissue).

I actually think it's kind of scary. The amount of thought some of you, especially if you're approaching 30, put into your sexual fantasies with anime women is disturbing.

William Shatner put it best:

You, you must be almost 30... have you ever kissed a girl?

Mankind has always maintained sexual fantasies at middle age. Hell, look at most art through out history.

I've kissed two.

Bottom line is that "real" women aren't worth the hassle. I "PITY" the blokes out there that are "trapped" in "real" relationships with "real" women who, when they aren't tending to the needs of their men, are but a nuisance, two instances away from having their heads smashed into a wall. There's nothing wrong with indulging in a little wishful thinking, as long as it doesn't head in the direction of Baltar and 6 in the new BSG.

Now if you don't mind, Aya Brea, Tifa, Mai Shiranui and I are going to take a long, hot bath together... :D

Hold on a second!

You can HAVE Tifa(there is a point where boobs become scary), but Aya's mine!

Jury's still out on Mai.

But having characters who are too pretty takes the realism out of a show imo.

One of the reasons I like watching a show like Seinfeld apart from how funny it was, was that the people had to go through challenges that average to ugly people got to put up with in life.

Ie George costanza is balding, middle age, tight-ass with money, afraid of commitment, mother won't let go of him etc etc and because people can relate to some of this they want to watch the character and see what he gets up to.

Because they are 'average' they are both 'villain' and 'hero'.

contrast this to a soap like the bold and the beautiful, where the object is to surround the audience with beauty, but the characters are not funny, they have nothing ordinary people can relate to, they don't get into any awkward situations so it is not really fun to watch.

Some shows benefit by adding social commentary and the characters are purposely modelled after real people to keep the show relevent to people living for that time. 'Characters' need character. It's the difference between a Shrek which makes fun of the archetypes in a playful manner, (with a character who is ugly and acts more like a villain) and a Friends or a baywatch which is what I don't like.

The good looks are important but I think they "stand out" better when those good looking people are surrounded by ugly and average looking people with flaws and this becomes part of the entertainment factor.

I won't watch a show filled with beautiful people if that show neglects who the audience is. (ie I hate to insult western people, but I think part of the reason homer simpson is such an icon is because it represents the people who watch it - its funny cuz it's true! Same thing with full metal panic fumofu and its jab at the anime otaku. There is something wrong with those people but that is why it is funny and entetaining to watch because some of it is true and people can relate to it - that is to say the very audience it targets is being made fun of - but in a playful non-evil way.)

Actually RocketPunch I was referring to a male anime character. Most like Lt. Manning from ORGUSS 02 OVAs, certainly not Bolton.

Also I completely agree with DeathHammer's comments, "I think anime and the way the characters are drawn and handled mirror the same basic facts of mainstream live action TV and movies. If you are good looking, life is usually easier. Easier to get a job, easier to get promoted , easier to find an attractive spouse in a higher socioeconomic bracket, etc etc."

This is so true it hurts.

1/1 LowViz Lurker most anime viewers do not care whether or not the characters lack realism, you do great, but most don't. This is one very important reason why an OVA, movie, or series is animated as opposed to live action. <_< Anime characters are eye candy, plain and simple; if they weren't we'd be reading about the stories instead of viewing it as a visual medium. Highly attractive anime characters sell better and receive greater acceptance among both young men and women. Average as in George Costanza is boring as hell in anime. Do you really think a character that is average is marketable and appeals better to teens (who typically are the second largest target audience behind kids), compared to an attractive or even a highly talented character? I certainly do not. Attractive anime characters do reflect reality and what people want. Sure, anime doesn't tell us the samethings that a mainstream advertisement like a CK ad tells us about sexuality, but it certainly confirms that people do not want to see unattractive, boring, losers, deadbeats, and weak willed characters. Yes, some characters possessing those traits do appear in anime, but those tend to not be the popular ones.

Lastly, as for how the audience relates to anime characters, usually it is the character development and/or lack thereof that viewers relate to. Who the hell can relate solely based on looks, with the characters in Macross, Bubblegum Crisis, YuGiOh, [fill in the blank with another popular series]? WTF? The audience relates if at all, based on the characters development.

Yeah, I read an artilce in the Los Angeles Times (I think) about "good looking" folks making more money than an "average looking" person in the same position.
