Syngyne Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Just curious... if the VF-0 is being powered off the two turbines in its legs, shouldn't you always hear the engines whine no matter what mode it's in? Quote
Agent ONE Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Only if they are loud. I don't think that anyone uses a Valkyrie to sneak up on the bad guys so it probably isn't an issue. Quote
JsARCLIGHT Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Heck, I'd go as far saying that every battroid, valkyrie or unit in Macross is pretty loud. If you've ever been around any mechanized military equipment you know that "quiet" is not a descriptive word usually given to them. Quote
Syngyne Posted October 3, 2003 Author Posted October 3, 2003 Well, I was more wondering about why you wouldn't hear a whine in the background during the show, but thanks. Quote
JsARCLIGHT Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 My guess would be that the audio guy didn't want people and their housepets to go ape when watching it on a high def system. A high pitched background whine on my 6.1 digital system at home would drive me up a wall. Quote
Syngyne Posted October 3, 2003 Author Posted October 3, 2003 Shades of the infamous Pokemon episode... "And in today's news, a new animated series has reportedly caused fits of insanity throughout Japan..." Quote
Unknown Target Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 There was one episode of Poekmon where it had a lot of flashing lights, causing epiliptec siezures in many children across Japan. Quote

Daishi3500 Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 seizures from pokemon, i have to see this, any sources? Not that I don't believe u Quote
Raptor Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 It's in the Guiness Book of World Records. About 750 children (All who already had histories of epilepsy) were sent to the hospital for seizures do to flashing lights from Pikachu... Notice how whenever Pikachu does an electric attack in the US version, the screen turns into a sort of sunglass tint color. Quote
ewilen Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 In a Simpsons episode where the family goes to Japan, they see a Japanese cartoon and they all end up rolling around on the floor in fits. The Simpsons even dared to show their version of the TV screen--I'm surprised nobody in the US had a seizure from it. Quote
Smiley424 Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 also, apparently a news program replayed the sequence that caused the seizures on their broadcast, causing more people to have seizures. Quote
VF-19 Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 People! The Pokemon incident is a myth. http://www.snopes.com/radiotv/tv/seizure.htm You can check out the infamous sequence here. If you pay attention, you'll notice that alot of animes (both past and present) do that particular sequence of flashing lights. Pay attention to this line here: Later, researchers who studied the Pokemon phenomenon reported in the Southern Medical Journal that only a small fraction of the 618 children treated were actually diagnosed with photosensitive epilepsy. As to the VF-0 not making more noise... Well... They do have mufflers for jet engines don't they? Quote
Lightning Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 As to the VF-0 not making more noise... Well... They do have mufflers for jet engines don't they? ummm....no, they would melt the "mufflers" if they put them on there. Quote
Hurricane29 Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 In a Simpsons episode where the family goes to Japan, they see a Japanese cartoon and they all end up rolling around on the floor in fits. Super seizure Robots, that was a great ep. Homer walks in and see the family rolling around and convulsing. Homer: shrugges shoulders and falls on the floor and acts like he is convulsing. Quote
pfunk Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 OMG that was funny, gotta love the simpsons, OK a little trivia here How did they start off. A)Comercials B)Late night Talk Show C)Comic Books Quote
ewilen Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 The Simpsons started as a bunch of animated shorts for the Tracey Ullman show, which were shown before and after commercial breaks. Here's a good guide I came across while verifying my recollection: http://www.snpp.com/guides/tracey.ullman.html Also, minor correction, the Japanese cartoon in the episode "Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo" was "Battling Seizure Robots".
