doodler7 Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 What's the chance of having a Gundam story battle it out with an alien life form...make it to the big screen or at least tv series? Quote
Hikuro Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 (edited) About as good as Evangelion coming to the big screen without looking embarassing. That would be pretty much a ig NOT GONNA HAPPEN. Gundams always been a focus on humanity and it's acceptance of others and what happens when that ain't going to occure Edited January 1, 2007 by Hikuro Quote
yellowlightman Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Isn't the first instance of Gundam-related pornography, as I remember seeing screenshots of one a few years ago with actors dressed up as characters like Sayla. Quote
kung flu Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Thats me watched every single UC gundam show thats been made, now I'm thinking of watching one of the AU shows, I've never seen any of them before so i don't know where to begin, any recommendations? I don't think the gundam porn would appeal to me though. Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted January 3, 2007 Author Posted January 3, 2007 1- Gundam-X. 2- Turn A Gundam. Quote
Hikuro Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 X was decent, but due to low raitings it was cut short, however I think there was a rumor that X will get a sequal OAV......but I don't think it was ever confirmed. The concept idea of it being a "remake" to the original Gundam series as a "What if" was good, but it drags on alot. Turn A, if you don't mind the character animation cause it is sort of blah, and a different look at what a Gundam can be, you'll love it...it's got a truely unique storyline which somehow tries to tie in EVERY SINGLE GUNDAM SHOW from before 2000 into it's plot.....very interesting. G Gundam, if you like cheesey designs and the typical beat 'em up bad ass emo characters, it's a good show....it's good to pass up time atleast. Gundam Wing, while there are many fans, and it seemed to do REALLY well in the states (one of the best dubs around) I personally don't recommend it....I didn't care much for Wing. Quote

Veritas Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 G Gundam, if you like cheesey designs and the typical beat 'em up bad ass emo characters, it's a good show....it's good to pass up time atleast. G Gundam IMO was a steaming pile. Granted i haven't seen every Gundam Series, but i've seen about 6 or 7 of them now. I never got halfway through G though. If you like action i guess it's good to pass the time but other than that it's just one ridculous stunt after another. Quote
kung flu Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 thanks for the recommendations, i think I'll go look for turn A since it's made by Tomino. I think Gundam Wing and gundam seed dvds are availabe in the UK, so maybe one of them too. Is seed meant to be a like a re-imagined version of first gundam like the new battlestar galactica? Some of the mecha look very similar to first gundam. Quote
Keith Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Meh, I liked G, it was just different enough to give it a special place in teh franchise. I didn't mind the super robot take at all. But Turn A is definately the first AU show that should be seen. X is a strange combination of ZZ & Orguss, while Wing & SEED/Destiny all tread back over 0079 & Zeta territory. Quote
Hikuro Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 You sure that rumor didn't become the Under the Moonlight manga? Ah that's right, I remember the title. Haven't read the manga or seen anything about it, but I do remember that title spoken before. Quote

If Seed is a reimagination of the first Gundam series, then I would like Lacus Clyne using the Providence Gundam fighting Kira, and end up stabbed by him when Lacus trying to protect Athrun Quote
j_wong00 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 If Seed is a reimagination of the first Gundam series, then I would like Lacus Clyne using the Providence Gundam fighting Kira, and end up stabbed by him when Lacus trying to protect Athrun I wouldn't call it a "reimagination", more like a show to attract new fans with influences from the original. Just for the record, I didn't think SEED was all that good compared to other existing Gundam shows. Quote
kensei Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I think SEED was, but SEED Destiny wasn't. Quote
Zeta Otaku Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 The first few episodes of SEED defintiely mirror First Gundam to some degree, but then branches out into its own... Destiny... well, it started off with major potential, then it lost itself... and the focus of the show flipped... and it all had a happy ending. Quote
wolfx Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I thought we had discussion for the umpteenth time already? We must have a new UC storyline animated...probably Sentinels. Quote
kung flu Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I don't know much about AU series, but i only used the term re-imagined because thats what they used for the new battlestar galactica, similar ships and characters but story concept changed a lot. I just asumed the same with seed because it has similar mecha designs and names. I agree they should make sentinel into an anime. Also this gundam unicorn sounds interesting i hear a 17 year old Mineava Zabi might be in it, but under a different alias. http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/8428/2006112101pu1.jpg Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted January 5, 2007 Author Posted January 5, 2007 Interesting, the main character/hero looks like between Luke Skywalker and Kamiyu Vidan as for the third one I`m not telling Quote
kung flu Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I also heard that the third guy in the picture is a clone/ artificial newtype of you know who and also pilots a red mobile suit. Quote

kung flu Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Mostly through fansubs off torrent. I see, I only just recently discovered fansubs on the internet when looking for the zeta movies and they are free to my surprise. In the UK, especailly scotland there doesn't seem to be much of an anime community, though it seems to be gaining popularity now. I used to get bootlegs from hong kong, now i wish i discovered fansubs earlier. Quote
Gui Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Unfortunately, fansubs are not 'free' but simply tolerated by the various distributor companies: all these downloads are illegal, in the exact same way than Emule, or Napster a few years ago, something to keep in mind when you use such ressources... ILLEGAL! I suppose it is because the companies are not making a profit from it, but can they take action if the show is not released in my country. Quote
j_wong00 Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 ILLEGAL! I suppose it is because the companies are not making a profit from it, but can they take action if the show is not released in my country. Officially, yes fansubs are illegal. They are distributed without consent, or royalties to the producing company or creators. However, for a long time they've been tolerated for serveral reasons. 1: In away it's free advertising. The more it's requested, watched/downloaded means there's a market for the movie/series. This is a guage to see if it's worth purchasing/selling the distributuion rights. 2: Since the original company never had distribution rights in a certain area, it's very unlikely they would have made much if any money anyway. 3: There is a unofficial rule (although unfortunatly it's being ignored more and more) that once a show has been licensed, ALL fansubbing and distribution is stopped. Most fansub groups will heavily encourage fans to buy the official release in order to support the industry. Quote

Thats what i use to do when i bought bootlegs, then when official release came out i bought them too. Fansubs are probably better than the bootlegs since they don't benefit criminal organizations . Hikuro Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 AnimeJunkies comes to mind, I use to think they were good, then I watched SEED and even their fansub release of Macross Zero Episode 2, I then thought I'd rather watch StarOceanEX from my friends bootleg HK DVD's where every bit of dialouge couldn't be read without being drunk to somehow understand a portion of it. I had a copy of Turn A somewhere around here on VHS. The guy spent all his effort on the 1st episode on the DVD (this was back when Turn A was the first Gundam series to get a DVD release) and dies somewhere in episode 2. Episode 3 was horrible (missing subs, missing words, grammar, bad timing, etc). Episode 4 was about as bad as Episode 2. I quietly destroyed that tape. The Chinese sub I borrowed at a later time was significantly better in the subtitling job. Quote
j_wong00 Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 You've probably never seen fansubs at their worst.... I have. And it makes HK bootlegs look good. Wierdly enough, it depends on the bootlegger. Some series (especially if they are a little late with the release) have better subbing, not because they work harder, but they take the script from existing fansubs. Quote
kung flu Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Well i don't have many fansubs to compare, but bootlegs, their subtitles can be absolutely rubbish to being quite good. My bootleg copy of 08th MS team had good subtitles, but my copy of Nadesico had rubbish subtitles, on one single episode the subtitles was nothing but the word F**K. Quote
Legend of TSXer Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Nothing but hte word "F**K" huh? Sorry to hear that since you paid for it. And Im sorry I cracked up when I read that and imagined it. Yah well I remember on my Bootleg copie of SEED, that in first episode where Rau was like "Do you sense me in the same way I sense you, Mwu La Fllaga?" (sorry not exact quote but thats what I remember) and they replaced "Mwu La Fllaga" with "Mass people vacilitating" I fell outta my chair cracking up on that. Im still holding back from cracking up outloud now at work. Guess yah just had to see it. Also, hasent the 4th Special Edition of Destiny aired already? Any raws out yet? Does anyone know? I am REALLY impatient and I would love to see Kira in the White ZAFT Uniform. We can still post RAW links to BT right? Quote
