Pretty disappointed truthfully. We keep going back into competition battles for no reason which result in sloppy story telling. And bad character development.

we haven’t had like a legit war story of a tv series since I think Age and that was 2011.

Wow... that looks awful.

I thought it was ugly when I could only see bits and pieces of it in the trailer, but seeing the whole thing at once is just 🤮.

Does it have three arms in this picture?  And what the hell is going on with its feet?  I can't tell if it has elf shoe-style feet or it's got spiked stiletto heels like something out of Five Star Stories.

Its name is "G-Quacks"... I guess it invites the inevitable joke that the production team certainly are.

In development since 2018 and this is what they decided was showready?  Yeesh.

Wow... looks like the Gundam franchise finally ran low on parts and started using the leftovers.

Should have called that thing "platypus"... it would be a better fit IMHO. O.o

Gack... it's even uglier in profile view.

This design is so incredibly busy that it's honestly hard to tell where some parts of it begin and end.  Lose the weird pods hanging off the upper arms and lower legs, give it some proper feet, ditch the weird ring hanging off its hips and the second one on its waist, lose that wing thing on the back, and dial back the V-fin a bit it and could be pretty cool.  As it is, it feels visually cluttered like a JRPG protagonist wearing far too many belts.

The arms on the back are actually its thrusters and the feet are way worse than you think. More like a broken horseshoe attached at only one sideIMG_3003.jpeg.038ba64883e2564959cbd3f8e6caa105.jpegIMG_3005.jpeg.e97ede7e4f3ae944d80b43de480fdb55.jpegIMG_3004.jpeg.c1b19df2520343554d4f4d716d4abb8a.jpegIMG_3006.jpeg.b68a460e5257373aacab762e34a85e37.jpegthis is the hg kit and it kinda thickens up the feet, probably for stability and still look horrible. The actual feet in the design are much thinner and look like they’d snap apart

*impressed whistle*  You were not kidding... that is way worse than I thought.

My brain honestly struggled for a minute to reconcile what this pose even was...

... and for a hot minute I was honestly wondering if it'd gone full starfish like that one Gundam Athrun had in SEED.

The colors make the shapes very confusing. I probably should have mentioned it was doing a high kick. It’s an uuuuuugly design with uuuuuugly colors making it a real uuuuuugly duuuuuuckling

Im gonna call it G Cucks even though I know how to read it properly, and nobody can stop me.

The gundam look like kyoukai senki carried over as mentioned.

The character designs... oof. First they mutilated aquarion, now they did it to gundam. I hope sunrise macross at least gets to steal the fairly odd parents style, if not spongebob.

Profound ignorance is something to be proud of. It’s a great achievement

Surely you're not referring to the people who are pointing out, correctly, that the GQuuuuuuX is less Gundam and more Hot Garbage?

I'm not going to dismiss GQuuuuuuX out of hand.

I'll at least give the GQuuuuuuX anime a try and watch the first few episodes (or the movie (?) they announced) and hopefully it will draw me in.

But to be honest I'm not digging what I've seen so far of the mecha designs. Each to his own, but they don't appeal to my personal taste. So, as of now, I can't see myself buying any toys or models from this show, based on what's been presented so far.

But saying that, despite not initially liking the mecha designs from The Witch from Mercury, I actually ended up liking the first cour of the series and buying some of the toys.

However, I lost interest in the second cour of The Witch from Mercury. Not a fan of this recent anime trend of splitting anime into two cours with several months break in between,

There been a few anime recently where I liked the first cour, but by the time the second cour was released, I'd moved on to something else and lost interest, either due to the long break between cours or just because I felt the second cour was subjectively worse. This happened to me with both The Witch from Mercury and Kyokai Senki. Anybody else have that issue with split cour anime?

I think it depends.  For Gundam specifically, I don't think it did Iron-Blooded Orphans any favors.  But I think it worked ok for 00 and Age* where there were more significant time gaps in between.

This is Macross World. Look at how many decades it took to stop raging against Macross 7...

As I've already said though, I love works this production team has put out before, am excited to see their take on Gundam, and am sure it'll not be insulting like that hot trash "Requium" or boring like "Witch From Mercury".

I’ll give it a try as well. I may hate the gundam, but I don’t mind the characters yet. The other mobile suit getting trashed in the trailer looks better, but I really only got a quick glimpse. Maybe some of the other designs are better looking and maybe the show could turn out good.

as far as the split on good and bad halves, I hope this doesn’t turn out to be an almost 59 episode show. 25 ish works better for me and some of my favorite gundam stuff was around the 12 ish or less with the 90’s ova’s.

That design is certainly different.  It's not off putting enough for me to shut it out completely.  It really does look like a marriage of the RX-78 and an EVA.  I'm digging the way the head looks, but the name sucks though.

Posted

It only looks as good or bad as the Rebuild Evas do, so if you like those, you have no real reason to dislike this. I too went straight to Kyoukai Senki when I saw those offset joints.

The mecha design doesn't really do anything for me, but I'm digging those character designs. It feels like Gundam is finally putting effort into modernizing their fashion sense.

Like I felt with Delta, like I felt with other Gundam, I wish they weren't so cavalier about speeeenning the camera every which way during the action scenes. That said, I really like the way the GQX is animated grabbing the drone-looking thing, spinning and struggling with it, then throwing it into the other drone. Felt very kinetic, in a way that Gundam has long been lacking.

Yeah, it reminds of those new ugly evangelion designs, but with the joints from border break IMG_3007.jpeg.cea9683e06de634f4f06415ba18d0e2f.jpegIMG_3008.jpeg.bb8a67365976883d7c520763a61039b1.jpegit also oddly reminded me of the way kaiyodo did some of the joints on their mini trading figures from years ago . Although I might forgive this gundam’s offset joints, I still can’t forgive its feet.

It's certainly different, I'll give it that. We'll see if the story grabs my interest. This design sure doesn't.

Sorry, but calling people "ignorant" over personal preference is the same as getting upset with someone over not liking spaghetti. The design looks like utter crap to me, and I'm not required to like it or the series.

Please feel free to place me on ignore if this bothers you.

I seriously thought this Gundam needs a chiropractor!!! O.o Just wow... did they put it in a taffy pulling machine as part of the design process?

I rewatched the trailer and the Zaku looking suit has what appears to be regular shoes for feet. Although simple, they look far better than the g-uuuuuugly feet. I’d like to see more of the Zaku since it so far looks kinda cool to me. Hopefully there are other suits that look cool as well. I may hate that gundam, but maybe I’d buy a kit of that Zaku.

I also kinda feel that the gundam looks more like a racer than a fighter

Was watching a thing on YouTube and they think the Zaku might be a police unit. Might explain the tactical shoes and riot looking shield, but it’s all speculation at this point

Yeah, I'll wait for more info before I decide if I'm going to say "duck this" to G-Quacks... but if the "leaks" about the show's premise are true I am kind of already not feeling it.  They're so out of ideas for AUs that, according to the "leak", we're doing UC Elseworlds now.  Bandai Namco and Khara allegedly settled on that oldest and most overused cliche for doing an alternate history story: "What if the Nazis won the war?".  The alleged leak from the official site claims the series is set in an alternate UC 0085 in which the Principality of Zeon won the One Year War after Char captured the Gundam.

I'm really hoping that's fake, because they already handled one Zeon story badly this year and this premise is even easier to screw up than Requiem for Vengeance's.

Now, in all fairness, there is absolutely no practical reason that a giant robot has to have the same rotational limits to its joints that the Human body does.  The main reason they do is it's easier to consider choreography if the robot is treated like a giant person.

The only series I can think of that actually does anything with that idea is Full Metal Panic!, but it's still a valid point.  There shouldn't be anything, mechanically, stopping a Mobile Suit or other giant robot from spinning its head and windmilling its arms like a cartoon character or having the flexibility of a contortionist.  It's not like the pilot has to match that flexibility inside the cockpit.

That "action pose" would probably look a lot more impressive with a model that isn't quite so visually busy.  The G-Quacks is covered with so many differently-colored and oddly-shaped bits and bobs that it has very few clean lines, and thus when posed like that it's just a visually indistinct blob until you start processing the fine detail and figuring out what patch of color belong to what extremity.   I feel like the increasing visual complexity of the designs is an escalating problem that's only getting worse.  As much as I love the IBO designs, they got busier and busier as the series went on until they lost all their visual punch.  The Aerial had the same problem, it had to have a trillion panel lines and TRON lines and curves everywhere, which must've been hell to draw but just make it look cluttered.  The Quacky here is just the newest and most severe example.  If they took the top two or three layers off it in Photoshop it might be presentable, but any charm the design might have is lost under the layers of extraneous surface detail.

Seeing the thing stood still, rather than in some kind of flying action pose... it is kind of growing on me. I do agree that it shares the issue of being overly visually complicated, though the feet are kind of working for me - but then I like dinosaurs. 😅I'll give it a chance, because I remember the reaction to the "Turn-A" designs [1] when they first came out, and I was among one of those who laughed the loudest. Now, I have several of them sitting on my shelves...

[1] Such as the Mobile FLAT, which made sense once you saw it in context.

Do the knee joints in gasaraki count. They bend, but while running they stretch to allow a bigger stride. It was definitely an interesting thing to see and kinda reminded me slightly of how the ED209 has a leg stretch, just not as drastic.

as far as Gundam, the only thing mechanically stopping the windmill action is that whenever they show the joints in high detail without armor, there’s often pistons that allow for a good amount of rotation, but would snap if rotated too far, but that’s only been shown a few times. If it was just on simple rotating joints, then there should be no stopping a wrist from holding a beam saber around for a windmill of death easily. Dunbine had the muscles that would tear and Patlabor might rip its shirt, and nobody wants the embarrassment of ripping a shirt or worse, getting a hole in its pants

The show might be good. Heck, it might even be great! Animation isn't everything... I didn't care for the animation in the Netflix Ultraman anime, but I loved the show. I'll need to watch an episode or few to decide if the plot and characters are something I'm into or not.

All I'm saying for now is that's the worst mecha to bear the name "Gundam" in 45 years.

I’m with you. But I actually think the animation looks alright. Sure the gundam sucks, but there might be a fun or cool story here and the zaku looks alright so far from the preview, so maybe the other mobile suits are cool. I’m very curious about this one, just hoping it’s not a let down but I’ll give it a try.

The hg kit for this looks like they packed all the crazy details and maybe this design isn’t for me, but if they treat the other kits from this that well and the designs look good I might have a lot of fun with them. I keep looking at those lower legs around the calves and am really surprised how well they pulled that off, so I gotta at least give Bandai some credit there

I think the fact that it has actual thrust exhaust cones coming out of the feet makes it look almost like a Valkyrie.  I wonder if this signals a change in Gundam design, where the size of the exhaust thruster bell is proportional to the amount of thrust that the specs say come out of it.  The design is very busy.  I will have to see the anime, if it becomes available soon after release in the US on the streaming platforms is subscribe to.

It’s not the size of the thrusters, but how you use them.

all joking aside, as I’ve said a bit above, I think this design would’ve made a better racer. I can’t see this thing holding up in close combat doing high kicks with that flimsy foot design

Perhaps space-configuration? That would explain the thrust vectoring U-shaped backpack. The show is starting off in the colony so it should be optimally spec'd.

I’m not sure if this will ever get a ground version, since the show’s premise has to do with the colonies having underground fighting competitions. There’d have to be a drastic change that would lead them away from space, but I guess it’s always a possibility

I didn’t really like many of the mecha designs from which. I think there were two or three and that’s about it. Although none were as jarring as the main one from this upcoming series

It's Mecha so I'll watch the first couple episodes.   This shows artistic style  is giving me DieBuster vibes.  Not a fan but I like the OG so I'll give it a shot it may surprise me.
