Apollo Leader Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 The Penny Arcade How many of you guys have checked this site out or seen these strips republished in Electronic Gaming Monthly? Is it me, or does the two main characters in the strip bear a VERY strong resemblance to Hikaru and Roy? Quote
mikeszekely Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I think it's just you. Have you seen their older stuff? They DEFINATELY didn't look like Roy and Hikaru then. Gabe's talked about his influences before, and he's never mentioned Macross or Robotech. Or anime. Quote

But the way they're drawn today I swear they bear a resemblance Hikaru and Roy even if it's a coincidence. I first noticed this when EGM started running some of these strips. Quote
azrael Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Artists tend to evolve their drawings as time goes on. Look at Dilbert from when Scott Adams started to now. Quote

IIRC, they were invited as special guests to Otakon 2002, but were put off by the experience there and declined the invitation to go the following year. Quote
JKeats Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I have PA bookmarked and I'm pretty sure they're not into anime. One of the creators, Gabe, blogged on Wednesday about how they were invited to Sakuracon and consider it nice to be going considering how the last time they were there, they told the audience that they, "have never watched any manga" or something like that. JsARCLIGHT Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I think this is a case of Anime Pareidolia. Sometimes we perceive the basis of things we like in things that have nothing to do with them. Last week I thought I saw a cat like mine on a magazine at the grocery store but upon closer inspection it was a dog. Quote
JB0 Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 But what about this: 385568[/snapback] HAHAHA! I think it DOES say all that needs saying. Quote
