I hope the third season doesn't bore the crap out of me.

Sometimes GITS can be little long winded but the action scenes(when it finally gets there) and the animation is top notch!

The chat room episode was in the first season. Yeah, pretty boring if it goes to full episodes of that stuff. If it's in good balance it's ok, and may be quite interesting if written well.

The first season didn't bore me... the second season was kinda slow... I still need to finish it.

No poo you need to finish it. I'm just going to start IMing you spoilers just to piss you off.

Anyway, this is all kinds of good news. My faith in modern anime has been (temporarily) restored.

Gosh.. I remeber one episode, last season (or was it the first season, I don't remember), it was all in a virtual chat room. The idea was unique but devoting a whole TV episode was a poor editing choice IMO. The political intruige is interesting but when it reaches the point of moral issues of what is a soul and can a machine have a soul is a bit redundant.

Yeah, I remember that episode. I almost gave up watching the series because it was getting boring and that was just too much.

There will be a third Season TV series.  It is already slated for TV airing.  Cool that they are doing a movie as well.

So there's gonna be a moive AND tv series?

Evidently....I really didn't know about the movie. But I had heard about the TV series over a month ago.

A few of my friends who are sculptors here have been hired to make more Gashapon Figures for it, so they got the info about it.....

Unless the TV series has been compleely scrapped and turned into a movie...which I doubt....

Wow friend of mine at work and I were discussing Season 1 and 2 and I told him they weren't going to do a Third Season anymore, but now I can let him know wedensday when I go back to work that idea got dropped and now they are doing a third season.

I am so far behind on this series is tragic. I still only own first 5 DVDs of first season. I gotta get around to seeing more soon, otherwise I'll miss the whole series :(

I can't wait to see this advertised in the movie section of the newspaper:

"Ghost in the Shell 3: Standalone Complex: Solid State Society"

They will go broke from taking out an ad space to fit it all in. And the opening credits will run for an extra 5 minutes.

:D

Excellent news, especially if it means season 1 will finally get cheap enough for me to buy it!

Am I the only one who thinks there's something vaguely obscene sounding about the name 'GITS SAC'.

Or do I just have a dirty mind?

You know, the chatroom episode mentioned towards the beginning of the thread was actually one of my favourite episodes.

Techno babble was at a tolerble minimum and yeah, when the action do arrive is worth waiting for but in short snippets.

Actually, that episode is lauded by many as being very well executed. One of the characteristics of science fiction is that it usually requires a large amount of exposition. That episode manages to do a lot of the exposition in a unique and entertaining way.

If you're looking for action porn, you probably shouldn't have bothered with GitS in the first place.

Looks like it WILL be a movie.

The 100-minute (tentative running time) movie takes place in 2034, two years after the refugee riot incident. A significantly larger Section 9, with over 20 new officers, investigates terrorist actions related to a wizard-like hacker “Kugutsu Mawashi.â€

WOW!!!!

COOL!!!!!

I like GitS a lot!, and SAC series is very cool as well.

If it's either a movie or a TV series, I'll sure get this "third" stuff. But I first have to finish watching 2nd GiG

I'm a big fan of the original GitS manga and lukewarm about the two movies. Haven't seen SAC yet. I'm sure one of these days. But just wondering, is the below from a scene in SAC? The origami instantly reminded me of Blade Runner.

Nice illustration!

The scene isn't out of of SAC but it does reference an episode from the second season where we learn a little about the major and how she became a cyborg.

I saw the booth at the Tokyo International Anime Fair on Sunday. Sadly, they weren't allowing photos, but I was very impressed by what I saw!

The line art for it was simply amazing, as was the little bit of footage they managed to show. The booth was topped by an awesome tachikoma model.
