if a site offered a lottery like sytem, where the participents would donate lets say $5, and every week (or when ever $200 in donations is reached) a winner is randomly selected amongst those who submitted donations(one person one chance, even though participents are allowed to donate more then $5 if they want) will win a yamato valk, anounced before the donations start of course

im not saying id start this i just had the idea earlier today

hahaha the only problem is that if theres not enough donations you would have to wait longer, or fork over some more money to keep things moving, and even then there are still the same odds of winning as if you waited insteaded of going over the minimum(as i explained earlier)

I'd go in for that. Let's see 200 divided by 5 is 40, so 40 people would have to sign up. I'd change one thing, everytime you donate $5 you get an extra chance at winning, so if you donate $5 four times you get your name put in 4 times for the lottery. But I think it's a great idea.

I think it's a nice idea but I probably wouldn't participate unless it was for a worthy cause... and after Graham won his fourth straight drawing I'd probably get suspicious.

I'd go in for that. Let's see 200 divided by 5 is 40, so 40 people would have to sign up. I'd change one thing, everytime you donate $5 you get an extra chance at winning, so if you donate $5 four times you get your name put in 4 times for the lottery. But I think it's a great idea.

you probably cant do this in the us. it maybe seen as a form of gambling and as far as i know the online casinos are off shore. so as long as the servers for macross world are outside of the united states it can be done. but if they arent or are in a country that frowns on online gambling. it would be illegal.

I seem to remember doing valk raffles on the old boards. If I remember correctly it was loads of fun. I also remember the money going to Shawn to help pay for the site. Now that would be a worthy cause.

Good idea. I say go for it.

And 1 person 1 chance seems fair and easier to manage. If a person gets more to increase his chances, the money could grow faster than it takes to spend it. Any single person holding onto the money is a victim to public scrutiny on what he does with it.

I *think* as long as the raffle is not for profit, you're ok legally. So a donation for the site would be ok.

On a forum that I frequent they do this kinds of lotteries all the time. For example, now I have two numbers for a mobile phone someone is giving away. Numbers go from 00 to 99 and the winner will be decided by the last two figures of the winning lottery number this Friday on the country I live in. For this to work there have to be a minimum of bought numbers, any less and the thing is cancelled (in this forum they first see how many people are interested and then, when they see they have enough, they say where the money is to be deposited).

To set this up we would need a person in charge of receiving the money of each participant. A respectable dealer who’s a member of MW would be a very good choice. After receiving the money from everyone (the ones that don’t pay on a given moment would be kicked out), we just need a given random event (like a specific lottery). Whoever wins gets his valk and just pays for the shipping (or not if it’s decided that way) and the rest of the money goes to Shawn or Graham (for MW) or whatever charity is decided.

As I said, you can use part of the winning number of a given lottery on a given day, that way you won't have this kind of problems.

Why not have a drawing at the Con?

You can sell numbers/tickets/chances beginning now at $5.00 each. If you reach the desired amount for the item then you can have the drwaing. If you don\'t meet it just send the money back, or hold it for another drawing. There could be an arbitrary person at the Con (guest speaker, if any) who can draw the winning number.

The remainder of the funds can be used for keeping up the site or using it as cash prizes for customs.

I think it should be $5 a ticket, and it should be assumed the winner will pay EXACT shipping cost to his/her location.

(That way more money can be donated to the site, rather then have shipping included in the prize)
