Otaku-dom is quite a social phenom in japan with a multi billion dollar market. Given all its negative effects, it really is spurring japan's economy and the government cannot neglect this. Otakus are regarded with utmost negativity for their sometimes uncontrollable obsession, anti-social behaviour like staying in room most of the time, and not caring how they look like in public. Its a whole sub-culture and is probably bigger than the goth movement in western countries.

And in regards to this thread, they're just doujin (fan-made) characters. Cuter versions ere.

Any relation to "Skydoll"?

dont' take my comments earlier too harshly, i just get a little sick of the asian obbsessed here in the states. at this point, a fascination with asian stuff, primarily anime and cheap imitation katanas, and said junk being mistaken for true japanise culture is wearing a bit thin on me.

obsessing over anime and nothing else brings you closer to japanise culture the way cowboy movies would bring you closer to american culture.

I wish more anime nerds realised this.

Unfortunately, a lot of anime fans are grossly uninformed about true Japanese culture. I give credit to my future wife who educated me in what is truly culture in Japan. Even before then, I have read about Japan in Time and Reader's Digest before the internet became commonplace.

Hell, I used to have a housemate who swore that there are Gundams being built and housed within Mt. Fuji, waiting to unleash upon the world in World War 3.

Yes, I am sick and tired of all these ugly nerds who paints a bad picture of us healthy otakus. It is those bad ones that make me feel ashamed to admit that I am an anime and manga fan at times. The kind of look my co-workers gave me when I told them is something I do not wish to repeat anytime soon.

The F4U Corsair girl is a freaking furyo! lol All she needs is getta and a bokken.

Those look alright because none of them look like they got body parts lopped off and replaced with aircraft parts. It looks like some of them put on boots and stuff instead.

Well yeah enuff of the otaku bashing. They're all just people too. The "western otaku" ...gah....don't make me start. Wannabes who don't know the connotation of being one.

I've only seen 2 eps so far and I'm liking it. Very stylish and nice blend between cel and CG. Nothing much is revealed yet though. You don't even know who/what/where the hero is/from. He just appears with mysterious girl Yurine (hubba hubba) and pwnz Oni ass.
