Duke Togo Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Does anybody honestly think this movie is going to go anywhere? If HG had the monetary resources to pull off a movie, Shadow Chronicles would have been a series and not a one shot. Quote

According to ANN, they pulled all references from both HG's and the production company's site. MHO, they ran it up the flagpole, and when nobody saluted they turned tail. EXO Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 I adore Iijima's voice as Minmay but Iijima live as Minmay...Ah...I think I better stop right here before I am bombarded with hate mails . They can get Mari Iijima to be Minmay in the Macross Live Action. Wouldn't that be a kicker? 375158 375168 I actually agree with you. I know Mari doesn't look her age but she doesn't look 16 anymore. Plus her speaking voice wouldn't do any english speaking movie any good. I don't mean to make her sound unattractive, I just dont think she can pull things like that off. As far as the RT movie, I'm glad she doesn't have to. It was a stupid idea to begin with. Quote
mikeszekely Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Macross purists think that if it ain't Macross it won't work. That's not true. Big West could announce that they, in turn, were making a live action Macross, and it too would be a pile of flaming crap. If Gundam can't get it right... there is no hope for Macross. Exactly. Z Gundam is probably my all-time favorite anime. I've loved every UC Gundam series, and even when Gundam is at it's worst (Wing, SEED), I'm usually at least mildly entertained. But have you seen G-Saviour? Live action = bad anime. Quote

JsARCLIGHT Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 I cringe a little each time I see or hear the words "live action adaptation". Those three little words just carry such karma with them. Sometimes live action adaptations work out well like Spiderman, Sin City and the X Men movies while other times you wind up with Howard the Duck or Tank Girl. Quote
uminoken Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 I think James cameron need to make a macross movie. Just combine what he did with titanic, (the love story) and the darker aliens movie (violent gruesome deaths, sense of doom, the slimey-ness of aliens in general) and proper FX (loved the abyss and terminator 2) and voila! Live action version of DYRL. What do you think? Independance day showed you could do the large scale dogfights. Just chuck it in space, using all the latest cg (ie star wars Prequel trilogy but with BSG realism) and you got macross. 374638 Cameron's already doing a love story set against interplanetary war that's very hush hush....hey maybe he's doing the RT movie under everyone's noses! ....................or maybe not Quote
HWR MKII Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 No Cameron is doing ANOTHER live action adaptation. BATTLE ANGEL. Even he has sunk into the remake levels of hollywood hell Quote

Skullsixx Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 If anyone could handle doing a Macross movie, it would be Ridley Scott. Those dark visuals in "Alien" would match up perfectly with deep, dark space, the massive size of the Macross, and the eerieness of the Zentraedi. The guy is a master story teller and the best "thinking man's" action genre film director out there! Quote

Duke Togo Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 (edited) There should be female porn stars in the male roles, as well. If Shakespeare could have men as women, we can have women as men. BTW, is it just me, or are most of these women hideous looking? Edited March 2, 2006 by Duke Togo Quote

Oihan Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 OT (sorta), but I just saw the Shadow Chronicles trailer and I got to thinking. I grew up watching Robotech when I was a kid and loved the Macross Saga part of it. However, I can't possibly see Shadow Chronicles doing Harmony Gold any good. Say if it were to put them out of business cause it tanked...what would happen to all of the official Macross stuff they have? Would they sell it? If so would they sell it to the right people? I just have my doubts about this. And if the live-action movie ties in with Shadow Chronicles...I just don't see any hope for the company that introduced me to Robotech. In a way, part of me hopes that HG does good with their new products....then again..... I have a lot of mixed feelings. Anyone else have mixed feelings? Quote
Mowe Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 I can see enlightenment from another Robotech fan...God bless MW forum. Oihan, I'm afraid it is true, Harmony Gold is Evil. Your mix feeling will slowly turn into rage when you realize HG had done nothing but sabotage Macross. AND, had the nerve to proclaim themselves to be the original creator, misleading a whole generation of anime fans outside Japan. Now, to complete your path to true wisdom, follow my lips and say: "I am a Macross purist, and I shall never fall for Harmony Gold's crap again." ...I just don't see any hope for the company that introduced me to Robotech. The only real thing I liked about Robotech was The Macross Saga, but I think I'd hate to see the company that introduced me to Macross to go under. If it weren't for them I may or may not have ever seen nor heard of Macross. Quote
Graham Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 The Hong Kong Macrossworld gang (Graham, Neova, Valk009 & Blackaces & Jonathan), met up for dinner last night and decided to turn our collective wisdom to this task. Here's our casting choices for the ultimate 'Robotech - The Macross Saga' live action movie (hope I'm remembering these right after the beers last night): - Charlie Sheen as Rick Hunter. Owen Wilson as Roy Fokker. Chris Tucker as Exodore. The Rock as Breetai. John Travolta as Ben Dixon. Morgan Freeman as Gloval. J-Lo as Minmay Samual L Jackson as Khyron Ben Affleck as Lynn Kyle. Max & Millia = undecided. Graham Quote

Mowe Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 (edited) I put my hands up for Ben Dixon's choice, love to see Travolta get shoot down. For those who ain't from Australia, Travolta is a bit of a comic relief from down under. Somehow, the idiot even became the spoke person for our old national airline Qantas and hugging all those beautiful flight attendants in photo shoot. Not fair. J-Lo as Minmay...um...can't remember if Minmay's bottom is as impressive as J-Lo...ah...what the hell, why not. Edited March 4, 2006 by Mowe Quote
1/1 LowViz Lurker Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 (edited) If it weren't for them I may or may not have ever seen nor heard of Macross. Me neither. Which is why they got to get the right people behind it. I think it is doable but am not going to get my hopes up high as I think it is mainly fans on robotech.com that want to see it, but may be unaware of the pitfalls if it fails. If the TF live action movie does well, maybe this will bring a resrugence in interest for movies based on fictional robot fighting machines or something. Then a robotech movie can kind of ride on the success of TF as a vehicle (being the test) to get to that audience that liked that kind of stuff. (kind of like how there was the sheer flood of movies about super heroes as a way to cash in on the success of xmen movie which stayed true to what fans would like to see but good enough for a mass audience to treat seriously and enjoy) Edited March 4, 2006 by 1/1 LowViz Lurker Quote

I'm a firm believer in competition, and I'm glad to see Apple's market share rise in recent years(though it's still got a long way to go). Mac users are just an easy target for jokes because of the zealotry with which a small minority will push the product. I'm sure you know the kind I mean. At the rate things are going, it'll all be Linux cracks in a few more years, though. The Mac zealots have calmed down a lot, and the Linux guys are getting louder lately. Quote

Don't get me wrong, Macs are great machines, just not enough (in comparison to PC) software out there. Of course this is getting OT. Quote

As for Mac and Linux zealotry vs. Windows... the reason is probably because Mac and Linux users actually have something to be proud of with their operating systems. Quote
