JB0 Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Mac users are just an easy target for jokes because of the zealotry with which a small minority will push the product. I'm sure you know the kind I mean. How does the saying go... 2% of the users, 98% of the attitude. Don't get me wrong, Macs are great machines, just not enough (in comparison to PC) software out there. Of course this is getting OT. That's my PoV too. OOCH!!....getting a little touchy. Just a little fun comments, not meant to do any harm to anyone, but obviously it hits the soft spot. By the way, I use Mac. 376401[/snapback] Yeah, I do too. So much for that argument. As for Mac and Linux zealotry vs. Windows... the reason is probably because Mac and Linux users actually have something to be proud of with their operating systems. Please... I can crash any of the three in 5 minutes with the right software running. Admittedly, I haven't had much of a chance to muck with OSX yet, so my last experience was with the hacky kludge that is OS9. But I wouldn't be surprised if I could take OSX down equally fast. An operating system needs to do two things. It needs to provide a usable interface and it needs to run software. Windows is way ahead on the running software side of things, just because it has 95% of the market so most software is Windows-exclusive. This also makes it way ahead of the "running poorly-coded apps that explode in your face if you breathe wrong" side of things, just because there's more apps. Interface is down to personal preference. All things considered, the Mac interface is roughly equal to the Windows one. Linux has minimal effort spent on user-friendliness. The general attitude from the Linux camp seems to be that if they had to learn to do everything the old way, then so do you. It's the problem of having the entire OS and interface designed by computer geeks. I've got nothing against any of the OSes, really. But when people start ranting about how mine sucks and I'm a retard because I don't use their OS and so forth, it doesn't exactly engender any good will. The Mac heads are the ones most often running their mouths, but they look rational when a Linux zealot starts talking. ... Or acting. *shudders* One of the nice things about the Mac side is that while they can talk and talk and talk and talk, they CAN'T reformat your hard drive and install MacOS while you aren't looking(subject to change rapidly, as OSX86 has a hack out to let it do just that now). Linux zealots can and some of them will. Quote
azrael Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Please, no more talk of the OS wars....That's an even bigger headache. Quote
Roy Focker Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 According to the horse's mouth it's a just a rumor. Quote
reddsun1 Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 (edited) I originally looked at the thread title and thought "okay, someone's just re-hashing the old 'what-if-they-made-a-live-action-ver' thread again..." But this is apparently a new [and yet another shameless] attempt by HG to drum up publicity, is it? I went to the Jump Start Productions w'site, and checked out their "new" Voltron demo. All I can say is: Wow. Wow, I didn't think you could make the show any more cheesy and crap-tastic than the original. Yet, somehow, they managed to do it! Amazing. Judging from the quality of that demo, it's probably safe to say any new Voltron series will suck a$$ like a well-paid whore. I'll admit, I remember the old series with a bit of nostalgic fondness. I liked that show as a kid, and watched it regularly. But this one? Yuck! The Robot Chicken spoof skit of Voltron looks better...that is to say; it's been 20 years people. There should have been strides made in the quality of animation, not stagnation [or from the looks of it] steps backwards. Wierd looking char designs, action that appears to merely ape the original show's style. Bleh. At best. Needless to say--and sorry for going the long way around about it--but if this production company makes a LA ver. of Robotech [or any other media for that matter] it will more than likely suck sweaty donkey balls, and put-off any potential new, younger fans to the Robotech franchise with its smelly crappiness. Sometimes I wish I were a well-renowned and famous film critic; if this company did in fact hypothetically make the movie, and if asked at the world-premiere of "Robotech: the movie" what my thoughts were, I wouldn't say a word. I'd merely have someone standing by just off-camera hand me a roll of the film; I'd pull down my knickers, and wipe my arse with the film as demonstration of just what I thought of it. I think the gesture would speak volumes about what I think of HG's handling of the Robotech franchise [and apparently, my utter depravity and lack of manners at the time] Edited March 4, 2006 by reddsun1 Quote
