rewooh Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Is it worth buying? how is the picture quality? Quote
Vinny Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Also, does ADV's set come with the movie? I know the HK set comes with the movie, but I didn't hear if ADV's did. Quote
Keith Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Picture & sound are actually great on the set. No, it doesn't come with Love Live Alive, but I'd reccomend picking up the ADV set for the remastered episodes & proper subtitle translations, and the HK set for LLA. Quote
DestroidsRage Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Just stick with the HK. Mospeada has degraded only slightly in quality, and is still quite vibrant and beautiful, and the subitles are perfectly understandable, especially if you have rudimentary knowledge of the series. I shall forever not support that shitty company adv. -BEN-MAN- Quote

I shall forever not support that shitty company adv. -BEN-MAN- In the light of Manga's complete & total downfall, ADV isn't "that bad" anymore. Sure, they royally screwed up the Sailor Moon release, but the Mospeada set is actually a great release. The only downside is that (as usual) they replacied the Japanese intro credits with english ones. Other than that, it's a fantastic set. Hell, they've even finally taken a nod from AnimEigo by having seperate lyric subtitles in a seperate color. I think I even saw 3 seperate lines (1 lyric, and 2 seperate character lines) on screen at the same time, all in different colors. A huge improvement from them. Besides, you'll "have" to get Megazone 23 when it comes out finally Not to mention Mazinkaiser. Considering they're even going to release the DC episodes of Evangelion, and have stopped those evil overlays, even I'm having trouble hating ADV anymore. Quote
Gaijin Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Yes, ADV has improved a lot. The Mospeada set is a great buy. I was pleased with it. Quote
LePoseur Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Go for the set Ben, it's worth it. The only other bad point, besides what Keith mentioned, is the box... which I hate. If you like Alpha cases then it'll be no problem, but after giving up on buying 2 loose bootleg cases, I've decided to go with 3 dual disc Amaway cases and custom covers (that way and can have a 1&2, 3&4 and 5+R2 disc 6 (with LLA) all together. Got any pic's of the covers? Which reminds me, it was very curtious of ADV to put ADV on 5 disc's, so that my R2 volume 6 doesn't look silly next to it Edited October 2, 2003 by Keith Quote
DestroidsRage Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Did they replace the awesome logo like they always do? Did they hack the opening and ending up like they usually do? I fail to believe they didnt butcher it in SOME way. ADV used to be a rat bastard company, and unless they fired macek and burned everything he touched, I /doubt/ everything peachy keen at adv. I have the Animation Video release of the Megazone movies. In a /beautiful/ boxed set. Not the one you always see, the older more hard to find one, with Eve looking beautiful and saluting, holding the microphone on the cover. TOTAL beauty. Im sticking with my bootleg LOL. Besides... If it turns out that Tokuso Kihei Dorvack will /only/ be available as a boxed set... Then Im pretty well screwed and I'll have to start saving up right away, LOL!!! -BEN-MAN- Quote
yellowlightman Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 ADV used to be a rat bastard company, and unless they fired macek and burned everything he touched, I /doubt/ everything peachy keen at adv. Macek started working at ADV relatively recently, sometime after working with them on the Robotech DVDs. But ADVs bad rep goes back way farther than that. Using the excess cash they made from soft-core porno titles to buy choice "regular" titles and disapoint fans. Quote
DestroidsRage Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Yes, they've always sucked. Im merely saying they suck ALOT for hiring macek. Even his name reeks evil. -BEN-MAN- Quote
Myriad Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Can someone rip the LLA and put it on file share????????????????? This would solve the LLA need in Region 1. Nobody in Region 1 wants to put it out anyways... Quote
BoBe-Patt Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 What's this I hear about LLA? So mospeada did throw out a movie? Wow, I need to see that. And where can I get the bootleg copies at? I wanna check that out too. I live in bootleg city here in LA and I still haven't seen a mopeada set. I might have to go look more carefully. Quote
Myriad Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 I saw the boot at Frank and Sons. They wanted 50$ for it.......... Quote
bankrupt Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 The Mospeada set sits there and taunts me at Best Buy, but I've spent too much money on other things and have nothing left to buy it with. Quote

So is that why you're "Banrupt"? But, yeah it really sucks when you want something but don't have the funds. The Inuyasha DVD set is driving me crazy because it's just too expensive to buy all the DVDs. Kieth, are you turning traitor for ADV? Quote
bigkid24 Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 LLA is available on one of the iMacross servers. I got it a few weeks ago. I think it's in a real player format. I haven't sat down to watch it yet as the first so is just too frickin' slow. Quote
JsARCLIGHT Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 I am king of plug! All your base are belong to me! (AKA Shameless plug) I have the ADV set on eBay now, used bit good as new: HERE It's only at $30 right now and ends on Saturday... I'm not sure if any snipers are watching it as I have only received one email inquiry about it so far. It could go for cheap if anyone is interested. I'm a capitalist pig aren't I? Quote

JsARCLIGHT Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 I tend to oversaturate myself with things, and Mospeada was one of them. I watched it like every day for months... I just burned out on it really fast. Usually I have neat toys to buy to make me give things more time but Toynami is just dragging their feet on the new Legioss toys so much my interest in Mospeada peaked and seemingly went away overnight. I'm bad like that... Quote
bsu legato Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 JsARC, have you considered just...not watching it for a couple of months? Unless you're desperate for the money, why not just hang onto it and wait until next year to rewatch it? Quote

JsARCLIGHT Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 I'm a sensationalist. I love things full on, top speed, all at once. Couple that with my almost buddhist feelings about personal posessions and it makes for quick "turnovers" of things. I'm only attached to like five things I own... everything else is a heat of the moment posession that will be kicked to the curb when I'm done with it. I know I'm bad about things like that... but I figure it "spreads the love". I'm not a college student any more and money is usually never a roadblock to me... which means I buy too much, revel in it for a while and cut it loose... in all actually I'm basically renting these things for an extended period of time! When I sell things I usually recoup 50% if not more of the ticket. Money has made me evil. More please. Quote

It probably has to do what I've been watching lately more than anything, Berserk (for the third time)and the new Fist of the North Star OVA. Quote
dna Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Yeah, that version of LLA on the servers totally licks ass. I wish someone would rip and put up a decent copy. That was larger than 2 inches. In a decent format. With sound you could understand. But maybe I just want too much. Quote
Keith Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Me? No, I'll never fully support ADV. Not after their overlays phase, not to mention the newly completely screwed up Sailor Moon box sets. But at the same time, good work is good work, and Mospeada is a knockout job. The Logo's are intact, only the Japanese credits have been replaced. As for the Megazone 23 bootleg set, I have that version too, but the terrible subtitles, and watermarks bug me to no end. Quote
Vinny Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 I quit supporting ADV after the Lost Universe problem. Overlays and such, I can understand. I hate them, but I can understand using them. But using them to edit a show? No way. By the way, a recently released rip of the Renewal of Evangelion set just came out. Consider ADV's set raped. Comes with all 26 plus the directors cut episodes of the original series, with remastered everything. That's all I care about on it, but I beleive it was comes with the movies, too, and whatever extras were in the boxset. Spanned across 5 discs, I beleive fansub scripts were used. Is the AV set of Megazone 23 a rip of the Indian Video set or all original? AV does some awesome jobs concerning original subtitles. I have all of Cyborg 009 which they subbd themselves and the subs were near perfect. There released of Getter Robo (original TV series) was awesome, too. They even reelased Zambot 3, recently, too. They do so many super robot shows It's pretty much a given that they re going to rip Getter Robo G when the DVDs come out in Japan And are you guys saying that the HK Mospeada set is not a gatefold, but seperate cases? I hate when AV does that! They stand out from the other gatefolds because there so huge! I'm thinking of picking up the Mospeada set with what money I have left from a recent HK DVD binge. Quote
Keith Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Yeah, it's (MZ23) a rip of the Indian Video release, complete with their watermarks. Quote
1st Border Red Devil Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Im getting Mospeada after I buy Southern Cross. It came down to saving my pennies for SC. I could have won a copy of Mospeada at AX....but they freakin asked an EXCEL SAGA question when giving out the Mospeada set....instead of a Mospeada one. Typical. Quote
JsARCLIGHT Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Hey when is SDC: Southern Cross supposed to come out anyway? It's this month isn't it? Quote
