I couldn't understand what was going on the first time I read through that book, and there are still some story elements which remain cloudy. His little side notes left throughout the book were informative, but added more stuff to look up. That was the first and only comic that made want to research Eastern religion and mythos just to know what the hell was going on. The twin warrior "monkettes" with their spell breaking swords were sweet. As far as his other works, I’m still trying to finish Landlock. The local video store has only had the second part available for the past few years, without bothering to stock the first installment. The character designs are definitely Shirow, but the story seemed dull. I'll have to see the whole thing to make something of it. I'm also curious about Gundress; it looks like more girls and guns schlock but it can't be all bad. (Right?) BTW, has anybody played through Sampaguita on the PSX? Quote

Yes, I'd read that. But a movie/OVA is still not a replacement for Appleseed Book 5, unless Shirow decided to pick up the story where book 4 left off. Well remember that he just came off of 2 stories after Applseed book 5 (Dominion and GITS Man Machine interface) and not to mention the Neurohard project. So it's not like he's not doing any more stories. It's just taking a bit longer to do because of all the smaller projects and illustration jobs that he's had to deal with. He also has to do a lot of consulting with The GITS series, the New GITS movie, the Apple seed movie, and the Orion RPG. I'm just surprised that no one has noticed exactly how busy the guy is. When I talked to Toren Smith a few years back he said that Shirow had enough work to fill About 5 Intron Depot books and that he has absolutly no time to edit them. Quote

I can't say I agree with the hentai direction Shirow has taken, but I'm not against it either. As always, his work will sell no matter what topic he chooses to draw. However, I'm somewhat convinced that his phase as a good storyteller has pass. Or maybe he simply chooses to kickback and just draw with minimal direction... who know? Imo, his hentai ideas are nothing new, but I do welcome his art - It's like seeing the old Sempai again. I'm just glad he chose to put his sick side on paper than say... going out at nights commiting heinous crimes. Quote

He made some comment like: "I really didn't want to put a guy in there, because then I'd have to draw some guy's naked butt..." Makes me think that Shirow is more or less in love with the female form and he just likes drawing it in increasing levels of nudity and perversion. Artists are like drug addicts, once you start working at something you really like the next one has to be better... if you look at Shirow's track record in his manga he has been slowly creeping up his level of "kinky" in his works. The man likes his kinky stuff... more power to him. Quote
