David Hingtgen
Cutaway ships have become popular in Japan lately, but this is the first anime ship AFAIK. Kind of ironic, the first one released (by Takara) was the real Yamato (I bought the Musashi). There's also going to be clear-hulled variant. myk
I'm starting to see that ship popping up on the 'Bay. At 15 inches or so I'm actually thinking of getting one myself, as the SOC thingy is too steep dollar-wise for me. If anyone comes out with the Andromeda however, I'll pick it up regardless of the cost. -I can't believe that anyone would want to try their luck buying the randomly packed pieces though; knowing my luck, I'd buy an 8 piece set of the ass on that ship.,.. David Hingtgen
Since NOBODY wants anything less than a complete ship, most any store that sells cutaway ships opens them up and assembles complete sets, even if they won't do it for any other blind-packaged item. Also, there are generally 2 complete ships per case, so the stores don't end up with any leftover parts.

myk
Allelujiah! My heart is soaring! This is even more stimulating than my suspicions about BattleStar Galactica being confirmed! -I noticed on the 'Bay also, that complete ships are being sold as opposed to just random boxes... myk
I've only found them on the 'Bay. Here's an example: History for sale. So, they appear to be going anywhere from $50 to $80 US... Edited January 2, 2006 by myk
Mechamaniac
I just got the SOP Yamato for Christmas from my Wife, and that thing is probably the coolest toy I have seen in a LONG time. Yes, it's spendy, but it is SO worth it.

The fact that you have to assemble it makes me think that there may be some issues with pieces that just don't go together properly... robokochan
The Soul Of Popynica Yamato is just about the greatest toy ever created! You will definately not be wasting your money if you buy one of these. I myself have 2. One to display and one to give to my son when he graduates from college. David Hingtgen
Though the ships usually have the parts numbered, they don't number the variants. Thus, for the Yamato-class ship I have, if you bought a box #1, #2, #3 etc, you might end up with a 1941 Yamato bow, 1945 Yamato bridge, and a 1944 Musashi's stern. You're guaranteed all the different pieces, but not from the same variant. So you still really need to buy an "opened" set, or you might end up with half the parts being the clear version, or something.

David Hingtgen
Well that's a first. I REALLY don't see the point of blind-packaging ships. I can at least understand (and dislike) it for figures, but for ships---nobody wants anything but a matching, complete set.

UN Spacy
GREAT. Where were you guys when I posted this stuff on the 28th? http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=17321 LOL.
David Hingtgen
While the title may be accurate, it really sounds like a book. When I first heard of this in another forum, and also skipped over it like 3 times thinking it was a design works artbook or something. I'm still crossing my fingers for Bandai to make a SOP Andromeda.
robokochan
I wouldn't cross your fingers for too long...they may get cramped. I really doubt that Bandai will make an SOP Andromeda. I think there is a better chance of them re-issueing the rest of the 1/55 Macross line before they do that.

JELEINEN
Just got mine today and it's pretty awesome and it has a lot of really cool details. The sections don't fit together all that great though and the really big problem I'm having is that the two tail fins won't go on. Anyone know the secret of attaching them?
UN Spacy
This little sucker is a bit fragile. Loose artillery guns and as JELEINEN described the tail fins won't really stay on. myk
You mean it broke? Or just.......detached itself?
Retracting Head Ter Ter
I have to say the Takara Micro World Yamato/Musashi is built with much better detail (parts and painting finesse) then this more expensive Bandai Space Yamato. Put them side by side and the spaceship looks rather 'rough' compared to the Takara beauty. I am currently waiting for the Takara 1/700 destroyers and cruiser Yahagi to escort the 1/700 Yamato sisters.
