Arbalest Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 (edited) I am just curious; maybe someone will enlighten me...... I been down with the Robotech phenom since it aired on TV in 1985-86. I have now collected from what I believe the final piece of the Macross Universe; Macross Zero. I thought that I would see if anyone posted anything on this series (and Macross Plus), but I haven't. I personally feel that Macross Zero represents the true beginning of Robotech (events took place one year before the SDF-1 first launched), and Macross Plus as the final page of the saga (the last flight of the original SDF-1 Macross). I was beginning to wonder if anyone saw those shows yet? Also if anyone knows if Harmony Gold is ever gonna get their acts together and remaster or re-do Robotech: The Sentinels? They was eagar to put out The Malcontent Uprisings (saga of Max and Miria Sterling and Col. Johnathan Wolf in the South American contenient before the Sentinels took place) in manga, why not animate and distribute that on DVD as well? Robotech is as big as the other anime shows that took flight, like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Akira......when is this series going to reclaim its glory days? Edited December 25, 2005 by Arbalest

I was beginning to wonder if anyone saw those shows yet? We've seen them all. Along with Macross 7, for better or worse. And you're confused. Macross and Robotech are diffrent products, in diffrent universes. Harmony Gold uses Macross footage for the first half of Robotech(followed by Southern Cross and MOSPEADA), but it's not Macross. Or even anime, IMO. IT's an american production that uses several anime programs to provide the visuals and portions of the plot outline. Also if anyone knows if Harmony Gold is ever gonna get their acts together and remaster or re-do Robotech: The Sentinels? They was eagar to put out The Malcontent Uprisings (saga of Max and Miria Sterling and Col. Johnathan Wolf in the South American contenient before the Sentinels took place), why not animate and distribute that on DVD as well? They won't resurrect it because Sentinels is, by most counts, a horrid piece of work. They've written a new story called Shadow Chronicles to take its place. By most counts it is less horrid. Robotech is as big as the other anime shows that took flight, like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Akira......when is this series going to reclaim its glory days? Likely never. Aside from a large portion of the Eva and Akira camp requiring shiny visuals to watch the program, HG lacks the marketing skill needed to resurrect their cash cow. Also: file me in the "Eva and Akira are way overrated" camp.

Oihan Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 (edited) What they all said above. Robotech: The Macross Saga was good imo, anything after that I didn't care for as far as Robotech goes. Macross TV is by far better though. Do yourself a favor and buy the repackaged Animeigo box set from Robotech.com, you won't be disappointed. ...And welcome to Macross World! I'd won't class Robotech with Evangelion or Akira. Those 2 were pure Japanese products. Robotech is a semi-Japanese/mostly U.S. product. As JB0 said, I doubt it will ever gain its fame back. It was big in its time but not anymore. Edited December 25, 2005 by azrael
Duke Togo Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 I LOVE Akira, but then again, I've been through all 2,000 some pages of the manga. Definitely changes your viewing of the movie. My 2 cents: avoid Macross II. Its like the Star Wars Christmas Special of the Macross universe. Officially, it doesn't exist. Just for giggles, the order is as follows: Macross Zero Super Dimension Fortress Macross Macross Flashback 2012 Macross Plus Macross 7 Macross The Movie: Do You Remember Love? is a dramatic retelling of the original series.

JB0 Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Okay.....I forgot two important things: 1. Macross has UN Spacy and Robotech didn't........my bad. How about "Protoculture is not a battery in Macross"? Or "the invid did not attack in Macross"(in point of fact, the MOSPEADA portion of Robotech takes place at the same date as Macross Plus)? 2. Harmony Gold no longer holds the rights, ADV does. I happened to go see my collection and seen that ADV have thier mits all over it. Maybe thats a good thing... You're confusing publisher with owner. A far too common mistake. HG licensed ADV to do the DVD releases of Robotech, MOSPEADA, Southern Cross, and the reissue of Macross. Animeigo had the FIRST Macross license from HG, but HG refused to renew it. I think that Macross 7 is the alternate universe when it came the the Macross genre, therefore I didn't really watched those series. No. Macross 2 is the only alternate universe Macross product, though many people dislike Macross 7(it's a very super-robot style program, and as you know, most other Macross productions feature a more military style on both the mecha and characters). The movie Do You Remember Love is SORT OF alternate. Officially, it's a movie created within the Macross universe, similar to the real-world Pearl Harbor film. It's not an accurate portrayal of Space War 1, but it IS part of the main timeline. Robotech's an alternate universe as well, but it's not Macross.
Gui Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 in point of fact, the MOSPEADA portion of Robotech takes place at the same date as Macross Plus 355061[/snapback] Until HG changes the chronology once again when they'll work onto the next 'sequel' after the failure of Shadow Things
