just saw it at bestbuy i saw it was made by thecreator of hoshi no koe, i read the description and it seemed like it might be too similar to hoshi no koe tho, anyone seen it and have an opinion?

theres a note about the history of the movie's production with the dvd, they said that the literal translation is 'beyond the clouds, the promised place' or soemthing like that

Great movie. I think I actually liked it better than his first movie. I rented it though netflix but it is definitely on my buy list after I get some x-mas cash.

btw, anyone know what the literal translation of hoshi no keo is? 'voices of a distant star' seems pretty long to come straight from that

Well, since there can actually be no plural in 'hoshi no koe', it can be either: Voice of a Star, or Voices of a Star, or Voices of the Stars. Take your pick.

If it's "Voices of a Distant Star", the title would've been something like "Haruka na/Tooku Hoshi no Koe" in Japanese.

To be honest it's abit of a bore movie wise. Sure their is alot going on but it really has the feeling that alot has been glossed over and because of it the characters are flat but not lifeless.

The backgrounds are FLAT OUT the best backgrounds I've seen in an anime since 'Grave of the FireFlies' and completely spake studios like Production IG & Gonzo. The same can't be said of the 3D nor the character art. However the character art is very improved over 'Voices', but still has a ways to go before it can be called "brillant".

It's a rental at Max, but the songs are worth buying.
