Apollo Leader
My copy of Gears of War arrived. My gamertag is Ashmedai if anyone wants to hit me up on some co-op. I'm getting close to beating it through on Hardcore, so I might give you a buzz on playing co-op in a few days.

Apollo Leader
Switching gears (pun intended), I was curious to know how everyone was doing with Gears of War? I'm partway into playing it on Insane and I've been playing it pretty seriously on XBL. I think I have about 700 kills (boy that 10,000 kill achievement's going to take a while to get) and I've earned a total of 29 or 30 of the 49 achievements. After I beat Insane, I want to go through the game as Dom. If anyone wants to help me out, let me know; if anyone needs a game hosted so they can play through as Dom, I'll gladly oblige. Southpaw Samurai
Haven't gone back to play Insane yet... thinking of doing a friend of mine 'a favor' by allowing him to play co-op with me... get some Dom time in and beat Insane. Haven't done almost any Live play... have just been too busy. I still don't get the end boss... beat him solo on hardcore after about fifteen attempts mainly because Dom jumped out in front of him, died, but got caught 'dying' in front of Raam who at that point couldn't seem to move. Would've felt empty over the victory had I not had a number of irritating attempts where I seemed to have everything down but somehow I'd die in what felt like one blow... and it felt good that Dom was actually useful... even if he was just kneeling in front of Raam grunting over and over... ...thanks for taking one for the team, Dom! I've been playing GoW alot. Beat it on casual, hardcore, and Insane. Ive beaten on insane 4 times helping others beat it. Everytime I beat it on insane I say "I'll never play on insane again!" but I still do. If it wasnt for those damn exploding wretches Insane wouldnt be so bad. Just recently started playing multi player. Its fun as hell. Although I play in player matches not ranked. People in ranked matches for the most part care about points. Seems like everyone runs off looking to get kills for points, where in player matches its more teamwork oriented. I will eventually start playing ranked matches. Just want to get better first. Oh and I'll be glad to help out with anything. Playing on insane, hosting a game, etc. My XBL name is the same as here. Just add me.

yellowlightman
I beat GOW on casual and got about halfway through on hardcore and got bored and stopped playing. It's a pretty gun game, but my opinion keeps changing. As fun as it can be online, it has a lot of weird issues and balance problems that prevents it from really good. If anything, it's mostly frustrating peppered with moments of brilliance. My friend and I were playing it a lot on split-screen, but eventually we just ended up going back to Halo 2. MicronianDevil
Yeah after I beat it on casual I also stopped about halfway through Hardcore. I was getting bored with it. But then I played online co-op and got really into it again. The thing is though, while I can play the campaign over and over because I find it fun, it always has to be with someone different. If I already beat the campaign with someone its no fun for me beating it again with that person and going through the same experience. Playing with someone new everytime is fun. Especially with people who are new to the game and dont know whats coming up next. Recently tried multi-player and am addicted to it. The multi-player is fun and I think while the campaign is really good, multi-player is really where the fun is in this game.

CoryHolmes
I just got the D-DVD add-on for the 360 and I'm having some trouble with it. Specifically, is there any way to configure the remote that comes with it to only work on the HD drive? IE: I want the HD disc tray to come out when I hit the open/close button, not the 360 tray. I saw it happen with the demo model, and I can't figure out how to do it myself.
Uxi
Nope, the open/close won't work with the HD-DVD drive currently. You have to go down to the "bottom" half of the open button inside the 360 dashboard.
bandit29
Why can't I ever get a game like this? Madden game reveals porn surprise Utah teen gets hardcore XXX action instead of hardcore gridiron action. By Emma Boyes, GameSpot UK Posted Jan 3, 2007 5:14 pm PT Kolton Mahoney, a 14-year-old boy from Layton, Utah, was delighted to receive a copy of Madden NFL 06 as one of his presents on Christmas Day from his uncle. Football may be a game of X's and O's, but this particular disc was all X's. When Mahoney inserted the disc into his Xbox 360, he found himself watching some hardcore XXX action instead of hardcore gridiron action. His parents, upon seeing the smut, contacted the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which will be looking into the matter, reported Utah's Standard-Examiner. The game had allegedly been bought on December 2 at a Circuit City store in Modesto, California, and was factory sealed with the game's logo embossed on the disc. When it was loaded into the console, titles of adult films and an explicit image were presented onscreen. It is unknown how the mix-up occurred, and the task force admits it may be difficult to determine who is responsible. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6163689.html

Apollo Leader
With all the hype of of the hype of the Wii (good hype) and the PS3 (bad), turns out the Xbox 360 was the champion this Christmas season here in the US. This news has been posted at quite a few sites. Here are the November/December approximate sales numbers: 360 - 2 million Wii - 1.8 mllion PS3 - 750,000 In personal news, I've gotten 36 of the 49 achievements in Gears of War to date (700 points). Last night I got the Hammer achievement and the achievement named after the Motor City Madman himself, the Nuge!
Apollo Leader
There is a patch for Gears today addressing a number of the glitches. Also, drum roll, two new multiplayer maps are out tonight. As for me, I have beaten the game on all difficulty levels and have gotten 42 of the 49 achievements. I should have 6 of the 7 remaining ones in the upcoming weeks. Of course "Seriously..." is gonna take a while!

Apollo Leader
I will be out of town till Monday but I will definatley hook up with you after that Apollo. Last week my brother and myself finished up the game on co-op so I got all the Dom achievements. But if you want to me to host a game so you can get the Dom achievements, let me know. If you play through on Casual as a co-op, the game is almost a cake walk so it shouldn't take too many hours. Also, if you want to play some vs. games let me know. We need to play some more SF II, too! (Now up to 43 achievements!) Edited January 10, 2007 by Apollo Leader
mondamoto
I have a question I am hoping some of you can answer for me. I am contemplating getting a 360 but I do not know if I should bother since I only have a 19 inch regular tube tv and have no plans for the forseeable future of getting a newer one. So how do 360 games look on older TV sets? I have heard about problems with text on dead rising game but nothing else. Thanks Mond
Gaijin
Text is kinda hard on a lot of games. But the games are still playable. Expect to only get the full benefit when you hook up to an HDTV though. Same goes for PS3. While the games still look great on an SDTV, you won't notice the real difference until you get them in HD. myk
If I were you I'd start looking into saving up for an HDTV. Just like Gaijin said, new consoles and their eye-candy would be unseen on anything else...
yellowlightman
Another option would be to grab a VGA cable and play them on your monitor. That said, I play my 360 games on a 25" SDTV and aside from a couple games with hard to read text, it's been fine.
David Hingtgen
360 games look better than Xbox games, period. It's only that the amount of improvement depends on the TV you have. Get the 360 now, get a new TV later when they're cheaper. TV prices constantly drop like a stone. 360---it MAY be 50-100 bucks cheaper in the next 18-24 months. But any new TV will be a lot cheaper in 6-12 months. Any game with hard to read text on a normal TV is just poorly designed IMHO. There's NES games where it's hard to read the text. Font is as important as size. And if it's hard to read on a normal TV, an HDTV will still be "readable, but small". If a game comes out that basically requires HD to be able to read it, it means the devlopers only ever played it on the highest-end TV money can buy, and they thought it was ok. Even a "lesser" HDTV could easily have issues with the most notorious of small-font games.
yellowlightman
So I ended up picking up the Lost Planet Collectors Edition at a not-so-local Circuit City right before they closed for the evening. Take it back to my buddy's house and open up the package, only to find out there's no friggin' game DVD in the package. The bonus DVD is there, but no game DVD. Very weird considering it was factory wrapped and sealed. So i'll have to drive back tommorow and get a new copy, hopefully they won't think I'm trying to rip them off. Thanks Mond If you haven't picked one up yet, and you're not in a huge hurry, you may want to see what comes of the rumours of a less expensive version of the 360 on the way. Supposed to come with a hard drive and everything, but the hardware is more streamlined making it more cost effective. It's still at the rumour mill point as far as I know, but worth waiting for if it may save you a hundred bucks. Plus, as others have said while 360 games will look better than regular Xbox games on a regular television, the big difference is with the high definition visuals. yellowlightman
Anyone else have problems with the 360 locking up to do "dirty discs?" It's happened once on my brand new copy of GOW and twice with Lost Planet. Very frustrating.

Chowser
here's the thing with my Feb. 06 360. It locks up every now and then on Dead Rising and Gears of War. Never on Halo 2. Haven't picked up Lost Planet yet, will get it later this week and see if it locks up. I'll say this though, for the last three weeks, it hasn't locked up at all. When I finally got around to hooking up the PS3, I moved the 360 and stuck it next to the PS3. Both are now on the shelf with plenty of air space behind and in front, and it seems to be running fine, I just don't like how LOUD the drive is on the 360, I have to turn up the TV. Apollo Leader
I just don't like how LOUD the drive is on the 360, I have to turn up the TV. There's an article circulating out on the net right now which shows which of the new systems is the loudest and oddly enough it's Nintendo's Wii, especially its disc drive, which is the loudest of the three systems! As for Gears of War, for the most part its played just fine on my 360. But what's most annoying is that friggin' patch they put out a few weeks ago. Up to that point, there had been virtually no lag or connection issues playing the game, but ever since there are quite a few matches where you get the connection error message which causes everybody to stop playing, but usually after a second or two the message will disappear. Also about two weeks ago when I was playing online, my game all of a sudden blacked out and I think I had 4 red ring quadrants on my 360. I think there may have been a brief power surge or something so I hope this wasn't a sign of my second 360 going on the fritz. Over two weeks later, the system seems to have been playing just fine. In other Gears news, last night I got the Boomshot achievement leaving me just 5 more achievements to go! Got Lost Planet over the weekend so I would like to get to that soon, but I would also like to really get back to playing through COD3 and finally getting back to GRAW before GRAW 2 comes out. So many games so little time!
Apollo Leader
Over the next two days or so, those who were picked to be part of the Halo 3 multiplayer beta will be getting an e-mail. After this, there will be two more ways to be part of the beta and that's play Halo 2 on your 360 on Xbox Live for 3 hours or more on Feb. 1-3 and then apply or get the specially marked copies of Crackdown. In Gears of War developments, I'm now up to 45 of 49 achievements. Just need about a dozen more headshots for that achievement, should be close with the sniper achievement, need about 40 more hosted matches to get that one. "Seriously..." I need about 7,800 more kills!
