Kyrie Posted June 19 Posted June 19 I remember reading in this thread about owning a loose-not-too-mint specimen, being a day-to-day companion and not being afraid of wearing it out, sort of thing... well, here´s mine... Always on my desk, today in fighter mode... Quote
nightmareB4macross Posted June 19 Posted June 19 (edited) That is the great part of Jetfire. There are so many out there that they can be customized into anything Macross. Edited June 19 by nightmareB4macross Quote

Well, I'm not going to start with that... or have I already? 😜 I remember I bought it together with the VF-1S, so maybe it was my brain trying to compare both and got tricked. Still, right now it's not my priority... There are some that I've passed for different reasons, and I still have some variants to hunt down as well. Let's see what happens... Like a nitwit, I sold off a lot of my 1/55s when the 1/48’s came out. I the last few years I have recouped all the Bandai Reissues. The Origin series was a bear to find. Happy to have them back and to have acquired many others along the way. Quote

Ja, sadly my mom gave away all my original Takatoku's in the early 90's. Was glad to get all the reissues in around 2002-2005. I bought a Yamato 1/48 VF-1A and strike set back in 2003 and wasn't overly impressed by the lack of printing, still have it but now it's DX Chogokin all the way! 🤪 Quote

The problem with "OG" is that for the price, the parts are really fragile. We're talking about thin plastic clips from 1985 that have undergone whoever knows how many stresses from being attached and detached repeatedly. Abuse of nearly 40 years plus UV over that time period, heat/ cold, non-optimum storage conditions, being dropped, sat on, etc... and all of these are unknown factors when you get them. If it's the reissues for the valks (Origin of Valkyrie, etc), that's different. All the same, unless you Ihave to have "OG", this should suffice. Quote

But not for every set of parts. Besides, buying original parts guarantees proper fit and finish when the appropriate pieces are procured. It takes but a few minutes to determine if the parts are worth their value. If you decide to buy due to being cheap well expect the worst. There are tons of great parts still available. Find a complete set and take the plunge. Edited June 20 by nightmareB4macross Quote

A lot of newer toys are a lot better detailed and have better collectors value! 🤓 Edited June 20 by grogall Quote

I am OK with it being without armor. It´s just my day-to-day companion that I can transform for my stress-free moments, or just a quick staring like a teenager being in love .... 😜 Got a bunch boxed and complete NM - M. I think I have some armor sets as well somewhere. When is about Jetfire G1, got a little crazy and bought a lot of stuff.... And now that I remember, I bought from DD the purple ones for upgrade / replace purposes for my evil Jetfire. Didn´t work out. The plastic was not rigid enough, and the arm little clips broke on the first try.... Maybe got better nowadays. Edited June 21 by Kyrie Quote
Uxi Posted June 21 Posted June 21 I found the VF-1A my wife got me in 2002. I didn't appreciate it enough then. Love the shade of brown more than the Yamato. Find myself looking at the Super Roy/Hikaru on ebay but oof. Quote

I don't remember the exact prices, but they were >$100 off eBay prices at the time for some reason. I wouldn't recommend Jungle because they double-charged me for a huge purchase (e.g., something like $1500) and I had to eat it because my bank accepted their invoices (even though the bank couldn't read any of it because everything was in Japanese and, interestingly, all of the documentation looked like it had been photocopied a dozen times). nightmareB4macross Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Here are some really odd and far separated offspring of our beloved 1/55 Takatoku mold. Tai Fong Toys produced and released these motorized gems in 1984. Finding a couple that work is easy. But finding them all complete, well that’s another story. I happened to come across these on FB and noticed some similarities with the first mold being the Grumman E-3 on the right. From there I thought since there are parts used here for this robot maybe there are parts on others from the same manufacturer. And to my surprise there were. A similar story is also on Collection DX, but there was never talk of the third robot having parts from the VF-1. Check these out. And see how many relatable parts you can find. Quote
Shawn Posted July 23 Posted July 23 I see 1/55 styled shins and feet on the left black robot, and on the right silver robot, 1/55 styled arms and what looks like exact 1/55 front landing gear, with the nail buster release switch and spring. For the center f-14 I just see the tail fins can collapse (to the outside, not over each other), but I'd call that a strong derivative. Anything else these old eyes aren't catching? Cool find!! Quote

Left, Thunder Bot B/O Robot and Black Thunder, has the lower portions of the legs and modified feet. Center, F-14 Laser Fighter, has all landing gear, highly modified nose, portions of the legs as the rear leg housings, and highly modified wings, and gears. Right, Robotic Aeroplane, has arms, back plate, inner back plate, overly modified wings, front landing gear, and gears. These are an interesting add for any 1/55 collection. Quote

I just wanted to point out I/Alphateam11 was not responsible for the "Evil Jetfire" set. I have no idea who made those. I too would love a source of a complete decal set that allows me to replace bad factory decals, I've got a number of 1/55 valkyries that could do with some refreshing beyond what the Toyhax set offers. I don't even really like the Toyhax set... they feel really thick, and in some cases don't fit just right (at least, some of their jetfire ones don't, I haven't messed with their Strike Valkyrie set yet0 Edited October 14 by Skull Leader added more Quote

Even though they are known to often have paint rubs on the nose before being removed from the box for the first time, the same crowd that a few years ago figured out there are variations between different molds and which version parts don't mix and match very well, and then publicly discussed and eventually mastered bleaching them, are now "finding" them with no paint rubs, no fading, no thin spots or chipping anywhere, etc. I guess if they are done with care and end up looking like the real thing, I can't complain too much. But no one is admitting to repainting them, so just on principle I don't like the dishonesty. I'm sure some of these people shelling out $150-$200 for a [touched up] Jetfire with no accessories are going to also shell out to get them graded. I wonder if the scammer leech price fixing grading companies catch the paint touch ups and ding them for it? I'll have to go back and look who makes it, but here in the US there is a brand of red spraypaint that is more or less a 99.5% match to the factory color of red used on Jetfires. I've used it on a couple of resto commission jobs I've done, and with a good gloss coat on the top of it, you'd never know it wasn't factory fresh. Armed with that, a stripped and retrobrited Jetfire, and a set of reprolabels, you could build a "mint" jetfire that would be damn hard to notice in a few ebay photos. Edit: It's Rustoleum Gloss Apple Red. Edited October 14 by Skull Leader added the name of the paint Quote
jenius Posted October 21 Posted October 21 Okay, 1/100 but this surprised me... a 1/100 VF-1D KO. https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/t1157557958 If it was a custom... it's very legit looking. The backpack is molded in orange plastic from the look of it. Quote
Shawn Posted October 21 Posted October 21 Been following that one for couple days. The backpack does look molded in color doesn't it? Not just painted? Thought it was my imagination. Could someone have recast it in orange resin, along with the tailfins? Quote
jenius Posted October 21 Posted October 21 They could have, but since they're indistinguishable from the parts on other toys, you'd think a customizer would just paint them. The head looks slightly discolored so that made me think maybe it was resin but seeing the backpack made me pause. Quote
Shawn Posted October 21 Posted October 21 It definitely is an interesting auction. Its either a crazy custom with potentially orange resin re-casted parts, painted parts, or its a crazy prototype work in progress In any case it is super cool and the Matsushiro Starforce box, at 1/100 scale is a super bonus Quote
