Mechleader Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 (edited) Hi, this is my third resin kit. A nice kit but a pain at times to paint. Went together well. I have finished it but have to take picks. Edited October 10, 2005 by Mechleader Quote
modelbaseguy Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Mechleader, VERY nice job on Miss Minmay. I especially like the base, where on earth did you find such a fine looking display? Really great job on the kit and the base too, I appreciate you including the base in the picts. Sent you a PM. Quote
Mechleader Posted October 10, 2005 Author Posted October 10, 2005 Thanks... Why I got the base at themodelbase.com Very nice work on the Base!!!! I think the base compliments the kit ALOT!!!! Now I can't see the kit without the base. I will be ordering more in the future for my other Macross Stuff. Quote
Mechleader Posted October 10, 2005 Author Posted October 10, 2005 They way I painted the dress.... Primer....then I used white. Then silver. As the build up went I WAS to use Clear yellow, Red and Orange. What I did was use Metallic brown for a light shadow over the silver. Then mixed the Metallic Brown with Clear red and yellow. Then I put future as a sealer coat. Quote
Kylwell Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Niiiiice! You going to enter it into the Legs Contest at SSM? Quote
Mechleader Posted October 10, 2005 Author Posted October 10, 2005 Thanks. You know I didn't even think of entering it....mayby I should. Quote

Less than Super Ostrich Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Hubba hubba! I love it. I love the clear color over silver technique. I did that with good success on my Q-Rau. Gives it a great look. Definitely enter it in the LEGS CONTEST. Quote
mslz22 Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Ouch thats pretty hot......great job, never thought of doing figures before now Quote
Mechleader Posted October 11, 2005 Author Posted October 11, 2005 (edited) Update. Final pics.... I left the beads out. And the base is from themodelbase.com Edited October 11, 2005 by Mechleader Quote
Less than Super Ostrich Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 How did you mask the curves in the base? I plan to use silly putty... only thing I can think of that would grab those curves. Quote
Guest Bromgrev Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Excellent job on that paintwork. You've got my vote! Quote
Mechleader Posted October 11, 2005 Author Posted October 11, 2005 (edited) For the base I used Micro mask. You can be a little messy with it because there is an indentation that will be filled with the black wash. I also used tape. And then went back hand painted any spots missed. Then airbrushed it again and then. Then future and black acrylic wash. The skin was a mix of flesh and white and a DROP of yellow. Then highlights of flesh and white. The dress was in this order: Primer...white....sliver....then INSTEAD of the clear red, yellow and orange I USED Metallic brown over some areas of the silver. Then I went and mixed metallic brown, clear red and yellow. The inside of the dress is the same but a little more clear red. I felt it should be darker inside. The clear gives a shine but I added future on just the dress and hair only. The hair has some clear blue in it. Clear paints are like syrip. So after getting my finger print on the dress I went and put the future for that EXTRA shine and to protect it. The gold leaf trim is supposed to go on the dress cut by the leg but it has a gold tint to it so I left it alone. Edited October 11, 2005 by Mechleader Quote

It has a tack on one side much like a post-it that can be pressed into place. Then using a fresh #11 blade, I carefully cut out the mask and removed the excess. I went back over the edges to burnish them down a bit and then airbrushed away, worked great. Quote

I guessing that this could be a close contest. Normally there's only a month or two of lead time, this one has 3 months and is such an open catagory. I know things are going to start rolling in. Fortress_Maximus Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Still enjoy looking at that fig! I am surprised the other one where Minmei is lying down was done as well. Another fan favorite. Quote
Guest Bromgrev Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Wait a minute, there must be some mistake ... I voted you for first place! Congratulations, here's hoping we see your work in many future contests! Now there's an idea for MW ... Quote
Mechamaniac Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Yeah, I love that kit, I have one myself done by Ryuji, it's just gorgeous. Something tells me that if the real Minmay had legs like that, Hikaru would have had a MUCH easier time making his choice between Misa and Minmay. Quote
Less than Super Ostrich Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 anyone's interested there is a Macross Group Build over at FSM. Quote
