robomatt Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 (edited) I have money to buy some toys for a change. I am considering the Koenig Monster. I remember less than ecstatic reviews back when it came out. I personnaly was very excited to see the toy come out , but the reviews describing pegs that may pop off over time and no knee joints in robot mode kind of softened my desire for the toy. Can anyone give me the lowdown on is this a "buy" or a "pass" toy? I only have a certain amount of money and I don't want to spend it on a toy that I am not going to be happy and proud of. Thanks in advance. Edited September 1, 2005 by robomatt Quote
Roy's Blues Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 (edited) I bought 2 of these bad boys right off the bat, 1 minty, and the other to pose. I have not had any QC issues for this toy. No broken tabs. Great toy! thread1 thread 2 Edited September 1, 2005 by Roy's Blues Quote
Eternal_D Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 yah, just don't man handle the thing and yous hould have no problems. I've transformed mine a dozen times and have no broken pegs...but there are stress marks. Quote
promethuem5 Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 I've got one and I love it to death. It is an utterly gorgeous figure. There IS knee posability in Battroid mode, you just have to unfasten the knee pad so it is free to move. Getting it balance with a bent knee pose is tricky, but I managed it. I transform mine all the time with no breakage thus far... the same stress marks as everyone else, but it's not made itself an issue. Quote
kensei Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 here's my review with pics comparing it to the 1/48. link Quote
1 VF-1 2NV Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 I've kept mine in destroid mode since I got it a while back. The other 2 modes don't do it for me . Quote
Ignacio Ocamica Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 No broken pegs for me. It's a solid toy IMO. You can bend the knees in battroid mode. It's one of my favorite toys. Love it!!! Go and buy it, you won't regret it. Quote
Rune Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Got three of them myself and it is definitly on of my favs. Quote
Fortress_Maximus Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Have these been reissued w/the problems corrected? Don't see many places selling them now. Quote
Lonely Soldier Boy Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 I just got mine at the SDCC, so I guess is the reissue, tho' I can't see many differences to those already reviewed, except for the opening elbow missile hatch. I guess the decision depends on how much you like the K Monster. Me, I'm a fan and despite it's little issues (stated above) remember that this is the only Köenig Monster toy we'll be seeing in quite a while. Quote
rnurmin Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 I got two of them and I love it Considering the size and transformation steps, it is an amazing toy. Quote
Eternal_D Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 can anybody take a picture of the opened arm missle? Quote
Fortress_Maximus Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Can anyone post pics of the improvements w/the reissues vs. the original one? Thanks! Quote
Lonely Soldier Boy Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 I don't have a macro, so I can't take decent pictures of it, but I can say there's not much of a difference between the two editions. The elbow hatch is not glued down and that's about it. Not much of a gimmick either, you have to hold it open 'cause it tends to close. Shows the same stress marks in the same places, wich is no biggie' like Prometheum5 stated above. I say is a great toy, I'm very happy with it. Quote
promethuem5 Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 The missile covers on mine open and it's a first release....they didnt start glueing them down until part of the way thru the poroduction run... Quote
Fortress_Maximus Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Still considering picking one up. Suggestions on where? Quote
Rune Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Ken at www.toy-wave.com has them on specieal for 115.00 before shipping. Quote
Fortress_Maximus Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 Thanks but they raised their prices to $125 now + shipping. Damn it. Quote
Fortress_Maximus Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 Suggestions on other places? Thanks! Quote
promethuem5 Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 Big Bad Toy Store still has some in stock for less than that I think. Quote
TheLoneWolf Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 Is there any difference on the box between the reissue and the original? Just like to know so that if I see any on ebay, I'll know how to tell them apart. Evanta Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 Nope, I didn't see any difference. My reissue has floppy arms, but it's quite a quick fix. Also has the usual stress marks on the pegs, almost tempted to wish they used magnets or steel pegs instead... ghiblione Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 Is there any different production date on the box or some where else? How can I tell the two versions before I open the box? Quote
Lonely Soldier Boy Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Is there any different production date on the box or some where else? How can I tell the two versions before I open the box? Guys, this is not like the 1/48's. Both releases are exactly the same, so get them while they're affordable and be happy. Geez. Quote
1/1 LowViz Lurker Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 I wish they changed the color of the monster back to the dark green. I liked that color much better. Quote
robomatt Posted September 6, 2005 Author Posted September 6, 2005 Many thanks for all the information! I'm going to buy the toy. Quote
vlenhoff Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I have one, and I display it in Gerwalk mode all the time. I have not yet transformed it into battroid. It must be because I always dreamed of having a Monster! The loose arms bother me, but taht's is the only downside. BTW, does anybody remember what scale are those little variable Bampresto VF-1? I have mine right next to the Monster, and it look about the right size in comparison. Just wondering, V!C Quote

Thanks for the idea, I had put mine away. Was'nt it finger nail polish that people were saying to use to make the joints stiff on those bandprestos? Quote

wilson Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 just by reading all the post got me wanting to buy one.. but i will do a little window shopping and find the best price first. anyone know where i can get the best price? Quote
aaajin Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 hate to say this but I think tisinc (ebay) has the best price at the moment...and I mean the best price including shipping...but you can always try Ken (www.toy-wave.com - he's very...hmm 'leninet' on prices) or Kevin (valkyrie-exchange.com) or maybe Neova (PM him) ...perhaps Rob could be of some help (samurai-monkey...hmm...not sure what his address)...or just stop by at the delaers' thread in this forum and choose your seller or if you have time, just go ask around for a used one .
