wolfx Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 There seems to be reissues of the once rare Bandai Patlabor MG kits. I am planning to get an Ingram or 2, and the one with the LED system looks kinda interesting. What do the modellers have to say about the kit? I'll try to paint up this kit (without an air brush cuz i dun have one) but overall how's the poseability and quality of the kit? I really liked Patlabor and would like to own an Ingram. Comments? Guppy Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I've built and painted the Reactive Armor kit - the one with the cool green 'jacket' armor. It's a great kit. It's got the cool feature where the revolver pops out of the leg. I'll take a pic or 2 when I get home. One tip - I didn't like the hands it came with and I found that the hands from the Toynami Alpha super poseables are the perfect size and look much better. Quote
Isamu Atreides 86 Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I have the 1 and 2 models and they are quite nice. pretty fun to put together too. Quote

Sweet as.....i want them all now. No Ingram 1 reissued yet i think. The old 1/144 Bandai kit's Ingrams used to have the conversion parts to change between Ingram 1 and 2. These don't seem to be the case? Edited August 23, 2005 by wolfx Quote
dyowelb Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Those kits are very easy to build and paint. Almost no masking needed. The quality is very good. Almost SOC quality. Posabilty wise, the rubber thing(forgot what's called) make it a little hard to pose on the elbow joint. And then there comes to painting it. But don't paint, the paint won't stick. What you can do is you can use a permanent marker and paper towel. Paint/write on it and the wipe it with the paper towel leaving some ink on the creaves(spell?), kind of reverse dry brushing. I might build one again applying some of the techniques I saw on a magazine. And oh by the way, I have an unopened and opened/used Patlamp that I'm willing to sell/trade. Hopes this helps, d Quote

Dont buy one if you dont know what you are doing I didnt and it turned out half-good if you know what your doing buy it if you dont forget it and you will screw up and make sure you keep good place the Gold medal peice it gets lost easily Quote
Guppy Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 if anyone else has done the Reactive armor kit, how did you get the decals to stick to the rubber arms? Mine wouldn't take at all. Quote
Major Johnathan Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I just checked HLJ, they still only list 3 MG's and the Griffon is out of stock. I hope they are/do reissue them, it's a great series and they are great models. I was very bummed that they seem to have stopped the line. I fully expected at least the Type 0. Helldiver,Brocken,Phantom and some construction types would have been cool too. Quote
dyowelb Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Hey Logan, I believe I have an extra medal. If you want I can send it to you. I have to look for it though. LMK, d Quote

What I want the most to MG'ed was the Python Labor used by the Section 1. Quote
Major Johnathan Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Indeed, I'd like a Python too. Gomioka is a cool background pilot. Quote
Guppy Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Here's my Patlabor with the alpha hands. I painted on some thinned black paint to show up the detail on the armor and airbrushed over it. I think it's a bit much but can't be bothered giving it another coat. Quote
wolfx Posted August 23, 2005 Author Posted August 23, 2005 Hey guppy, i realise you got that matchbox control car to go with the patlabor as well. Was planning to get one from HLJ too. Ok so people i plan to get the Ingram 2, with the LED system. http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN907022 According to the picture you can change the face masks and it seems without the mask it looks about the same thing as the Ingram 1. Is this true? If so, do they also include decals for the Ingram 1? Quote
wolfx Posted August 29, 2005 Author Posted August 29, 2005 Well due to lack of response, I got the Ingram 2 anyway and i was disappointed that it didn't have the decals to allow me to change it to unit 1. The "2" was also sculpted into the head antennae....so i guess that's that. Question to the modelling folks, i realise the visors are moulded in transparent plastic. Why didn't they just mould it in their colors is beyond me. So I wanna paint it green, and let it still be transparent, how do I do it? Quote
promethuem5 Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Use Testors or Tamiya(I think) Clear Green paint... Does the Ingram kit come with aprts to do both the Police version and the green paratrooper version, or are those two different kits. Quote

And if you want a lighter tint, mix the clear paint with colorless clear paint. One bottle of the stuff will last you forever. I've had mine for a couple of years and it's hardly gone down at all. Gunze Sanyo and Tamiya also do them in both acrylic and enamel. Quote

Isamu Atreides 86 Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 another trick i have heard for coloring the face plate was using a green sharpie. i haven't done it myself on mine, but i do understand that someone from this site had done it. Quote

Its actually Reactive Armour, which looks like kevlar vests for the mecha. Thanks for the tip though. Got myself a clear green tamiya paint for perhaps 1 or 2 measly amounts of plastic. Quote
promethuem5 Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Thanks for the info... that clear paint is porbably useful for alot of stuff anyways, so it's nice to have... Quote
rikiryou Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Oh, a clear orange would also help for the lights on the waist and shoulders. If I remember correctly those are transparent without any colours. Quote
