Zentrandude Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 (edited) forgot about the google sat maps. wonder why the shot of the aircraft graveyard is clearer than where I live? Edited May 31, 2005 by Zentrandude Quote

Lightning Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 we're looking for the F-14's, right? I wonder how much it would take to get them to let me take one of those jets (unarmed) off their hands... Quote
zeo-mare Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 very neat stuff. i am going to see if i can find my house chris Quote
Zentrandude Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 heh whats the address of area 51? That game rocks Quote
Anubis Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 They have a little of everything at the graveyard, AF related. Pretty cool. Rode by there on the bus when I did my A-10 FTD at DM. Quote
Anubis Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 (edited) heh whats the address of area 51?  That game rocks Groom Dry Lake AB, in the Nellis Range. Good question if the google sat has it too. There's never anything of interest in the day shots anyway though. New Mexico is also supposed to have some good stuff. Edited May 31, 2005 by Anubis Quote
Zentrandude Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 (edited) yah i was noticing that. im trying to see I can spot the sub from our local sub base but I cant find it. shame since its normal to pass by it on boat like cars on a road unlike in the 50s it would be easy to spot with the 2 speed boats on each side to block the view. aww it doesn't cover most of the world when you zoom in enough it tells you no image yet. edit: lol accidently found crop circles I think http://maps.google.com/maps?q=fallen+nevad...15820&t=k&hl=en This is so fun looking at the old places I lived and see how it looks now Edited June 1, 2005 by Zentrandude Quote
NERV Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 when u said aircraft graveyard i was thinking itd be like a car junkyard, lol that place is almost as organized as an airport, if not moreso Quote
Cruel Angel's Thesis Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 I believe it does have images of USAFFTC Det. 3 (current name for Area 51), this has been discussed in other forums and places, since there are several places around the Nellis Gunnery Range that sate images have been taken of. Most have been bomb targets areas and places resembling airfields, showing how our boys with the bombs got so good. When i have some time, i'll dig up the place that has the images and send a link. Some are interesting to look at. Cruel Angel's Thesis Quote

Commander McBride Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Sweet, that base has a racetrack! (Maybe for Karts.... but still big enough to slide!) Quote
Majestic Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 lol nice. but I think you made the valk too large for the picture. Strangely enough, I was counting the seconds for the scale issue to be addressed. Quote
Godzilla Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Man that is cool. I recognize some of the planes. I wish I can visit there. Quote
peter Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 That's pretty cool...I've never seen that before. Do they only do maps of Canada, Continental USA or other coutries as well....didn't seem to find one. Quote
Myriad Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 I have lived in Tucson for 20 years. Lots of different birds have come and gone in that graveyard. The giant Guillotine is pretty cool. It cuts those b52's into nice chunks. The chopped up B52's have to be left out there for a certain amount of time. That way the Russians can see we are going by a certain treaty. You can take a bus tour of the graveyard. It is pretty cool. You can see the Tomcats and F18's coming in for storage and the refurbished F4's leaving to some friendly country. Have some better photos http://www.dm.af.mil/AMARC/aerial_gallery.html Quote
Zentrandude Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 (edited) lol we should rename this thread to find something intesting on google sat map. this one is for david not sure what airliner it is but its cool that its lifting off. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=spokane,+was...07918&t=k&hl=en Edited June 1, 2005 by Zentrandude Quote

kanata67 Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 my science project was a great movie. Never know what you might find in a junkyard Quote
Ed.Coli Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 my science project was a great movie. Never know what you might find in a junkyard Wow, I thought I was the only one who had ever seen that movie. Anyhow: Weather balloon B-2 Area 51 (not enough zoom on this one) Quote
VF-17 Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 (edited) I actually live just an hour from Tucson and pass by that site almost everytime that I visit. Actually, the real "graveyard" is in the red circle. That's where most of the chopping and processing go on. With the exception of some B-52's and some other planes, the rest of the planes are actually just fine. They're just mothballed and can be recommissioned at any time. Slap in an engine or two, put in the avionics, and she's ready to fly. Edited June 1, 2005 by VF-17 Quote
VF-17 Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 (edited) Here's a field of A-10's. Before the first Gulf War, this entire field was covered with them. Then that and the current wars kicked off, and this is what remains: Edited June 1, 2005 by VF-17 Quote
Major Johnathan Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 What a waste seeing all those F-14s' baking in the desert. Put the super Hornets out there and bring back the Tomcats. Quote
areaseven Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Why don't they donate some of those planes to museums and parks? Around 20 years ago, while my parents drove me to school, I saw an F-104 Starfighter lying around a factory (which was formerly Lockheed Skunk Works) in Burbank. Shortly afterwards, it was repainted and placed on display at a park over by Olive Ave. I'll post pics of the plane later tonight. Quote
Myriad Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 They are stored for a bit. Some are parted out, some are refurbished if there is a crisis and others are sold to countries that are the US's friends. Read this for more info http://www.amarcexperience.com/AMARCDescription.asp Quote
Godzilla Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Found 'em. There's more that I found but I didnt get the picture. I will have to that later. Quote
Godzilla Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 And another group of F-14s. They are scattered all over the place. Quote
