myk Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 I think calling BattleCry a bomb is a little harsh. True, it wasn't exactly on the level of Final Fantasy, but it was certainly better in execution than the VFX's.... Quote
Ladic Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 I wish it wasn't FPS, but you never know, but just turn out to be good. Quote

True, it wasn't exactly on the level of Final Fantasy, but it was certainly better in execution than the VFX's.... I TOTALLY disagree. Sure, VF-X was bad, and VF-X2 takes some getting used to. I'll give one point to Battlecry for having better control, and another for having better graphics. But, VF-X2 has more VFs, a way better story, and more interesting missions. I mean, I haven't really played BC since it first came out, but what I remember the most was a truckload of enemies attacking the stadium from all sides, and only me to protect it... not fun. I mean, I like it when a game is challenging, but when I think I'd rather work part time at Wal-Mart (because at least I'd get paid for that), something needs to be done. Quote

Don't forget the unusual amount of baby sitting missions! Sure, but that one was by far the worst. I mean, yeah, VF-X2 didn't have the best controls or the prettiest graphics. But from what I can tell, the story is OVA quality, and I do love to fly the VF-17 and the VF-22. Quote

Don't even get me started on that mission you had to protect Hiro.... thanks god we didn't actually need to beat it. <_< Quote

Played it several times, as it's still the best flying game on a console (Lethal Skies, both of them, sucked, as did Top Gun. Air Force Delta Storm waited to long and made you put up with too much crap before you got a cool plane. Didn't playe Aero Elite, though). But you know what? I don't think AC's game engine would work for a Macross game. You kinda need a more simplified one to free up controls for transforming. Also, a more versatile engine would make transitions between modes smoother. To tell the truth, Battlecry didn't have a bad engine... just really crappy missions combined with a really lame story. CoryHolmes Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 Actually, I like how BC only allowed the variants for the VF-1 series. The idea of playing seven different mecha in one game isn't exactly the most thrilling to me. Save all that space by using one mecha and programming properly. Quote

Save all that space by using one mecha and programming properly. Sure... to a certain extent. I guess they could've taken the time they got for only puttin 1 variant (with wrong stats at that) to add some interesting story and actually fun missions. I seriously hope they learned their lesson... and make this new game at least fun to play. <_< Quote
CoryHolmes Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 I'll grant you that the over abundace of escort missions was irrititating as hell. Taking on hordes and hordes of Zentradi on all by yourself, while quickly tiresome, does fit into the continuity. I rather enjoyed BC as a whole, especially the chance to FINALLY prove to my brother that yes, I'm a far better Veritech pilot than he B) Quote

At least the VF-X games could figure out how to keep the wings in Battroid mode... Quote
myk Posted September 26, 2003 Posted September 26, 2003 (edited) I never meant to imply that my opinion was a fact. The fact is however, that the graphics and controls were better in BC. And although I'm sure that the story in the VFX universe is far superior...........I couldn't understand a word of it anyways, so that aspect of it was lost on me, as I played those games before I had you guys to help me translate it. Bad controls, horrible graphics, incomprehensible story= Better controls, cleaner graphics, missions and dialogue I can understand+Robotech=Something not much better/borderline horrific, but something I can live with....
