Quick question

My brother and I just started playing Halo 2 co-op, especially since we loved playing Halo co-op mode.

Unfortunatly, it seems that whenever one player dies, the game reboots to the last checkpoint instead of just respawning the dead player right beside the living one.

Is there anyway to stop this or what?

Stop playing on legendary.

Bungie made it so that the classic legendary co-op "spawn bitch" tactic wouldn't work in the sequel.
