Grayson72 Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 (edited) Ok here's my first really custom model I've ever tried, a kitbash of the Hasegawa standard battroid and the Arii GBP kit. What a pain in the ass this was, at one point I got frustrated and put it on hiatus for months. Anyway here's the completed pics, the how to build is in the how to models section. Grayson72 Posted April 23, 2005 Author Posted April 23, 2005 Headshot, I used the metal VF-1J cannon barrels from WF, they're pretty sweet. Quote
Grayson72 Posted April 23, 2005 Author Posted April 23, 2005 Closeup of the left arm and those darn missiles I finally figured out. Quote
Grayson72 Posted April 23, 2005 Author Posted April 23, 2005 (edited) Full shot of the back Edited April 23, 2005 by Grayson72 Quote
Grayson72 Posted April 23, 2005 Author Posted April 23, 2005 (edited) Closeup of the back of the legs Edited April 23, 2005 by Grayson72 Quote
Grayson72 Posted April 23, 2005 Author Posted April 23, 2005 (edited) Last Pic, closeup of the front of the legs. The lights on the legs are partially countersunk into the legs. That was fun to do. Edited April 23, 2005 by Grayson72 Quote
Gabe Q Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 I gotta give you a lot of credit, Grayson. That's pretty far up there on the difficulty scale. It came out great. Quote
macroadster Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Sweet kitbash. Can you take another picture with legs spread wider? I think it would have a meaner look. Quote
Gabe Q Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Sweet kitbash. Can you take another picture with legs spread wider? I think it would have a meaner look. Yeah, that stance... It kinda looks like he has to go to the bathroom. Quote
dyowelb Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 wow...great work. it really came out looking good. Quote
terry the lone wolf Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Nice mech and that Minmay decal is tight!!! Quote
jipe Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Very good job Grayson (nice, the guns on the head) Quote
Grayson72 Posted April 23, 2005 Author Posted April 23, 2005 Hey guys, glad you liked the model. Is this pose better? Quote
ChristopherB Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 Awesome! I knew that you were a talented model builder, but this is truly a "custom" GBP-1. Quote
Kerr Avon Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 It's kind of a shame to cover up so much of the nice Hasegawa detail (and you work on it!) but you did such a nice job on the armor that it all matches and looks quite natural. Quote
HWR MKII Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 He didnt cover up the hase detail he just made it better. Now maybe Hase will consider making this variant. Excellent work ,I have been following this one for a while Quote
Berttt Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 Nice one G72. How did you go with the weak hip joints? Did you fashion something yourself that was stronger? I like what you have done with that old Arii kit, now people will be scrabbling for the few of these that are left. If you had to rate this project from 1 (opening a box and hey presto all done) to 10 (sculpting your one kit from a blob of putty) what would it come in as? Cheers, Berttt Quote
promethuem5 Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 Check out the WIP thread.... he'd rate it pretty high cuz there was ALOT of work put into it. And it was damn worth it, cuz it is gorgeous. Great job mate, looks fantastic. Quote
Grayson72 Posted April 24, 2005 Author Posted April 24, 2005 (edited) Hey guys really glad you like the model, makes all the hard work worthwhile. On a difficulty scale from 1-10 I'd give it a 9 (10 being totally from scratch, granted that's just my perspective). Pretty much everything had to be modified on this sucker. I didn't change the actual hip joints, they seem fine. The arms on both kits (these were the worst) The front and back chest pieces on both kits The upper and lower leg pieces on both kits The lights on the legs The fast packs on the Arii kit The backpack on the Hase kit The Head lasers The arm missiles were total scratch builds Scribing all the custom panel lines on the leg missile hatches, arms, and chest And all the decals I pieced together from different kits (always my favorite part) Again really glad you all liked the project. promethuem5 Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 And all the decals I pieced together from different kits (always my favorite part) In all seriosuness, is that a sarcastic comment or not? I was just curious... as that's an interesting past time if you're serious... Quote
