sktchrtst2002 Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 A friend hooked me onto this funny as hell anime and I noticed that this year marks its 10 anniversary! This is the closest you'll get to a Farelly Brothers like anime! Plus the character designs arent half bad. It's the same guy that did the C designs for COWBOY BEBOP so to see another girl besides the sexy Faye in that same style is a bonus. Quote
Pat S Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Very funny show. I liked the last episode the best. Quote
ComicKaze Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Benkyo Benkyp Benkyo!!! Best Anime Ever! I can't believe it's 10 years old. It's a shame we won't see animation like that ever again (hand colored cels). Quote
Axelay Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 One of the funniest series I have EVER seen. I really need to find this again sometime! Quote
F360° Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 I love that anime.,, I find the first 2 eps to be the funniest ones. For those that still want to see the rest of golden boy, there's always the Manga. Quote
Retracting Head Ter Ter Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 I liked the first episode best. THE GODDESS IS SHOWERING ME WITH HER DELIGHT!!!!!! Quote
Anubis Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 (edited) I thought the 5th one was the best: the one with the biker chick who said Kentaro could have her if he beat her in a race, with a BICYCLE. Edited April 18, 2005 by Anubis Quote
sktchrtst2002 Posted April 18, 2005 Author Posted April 18, 2005 Well Axelay, ADV was nice enough to put all six eps on a 2 dvd set and it's cheap too! Quote
Sarensaas Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 I thought the 5th one was the best: the one with the biker chick who said Kentaro could have her if he beat her in a race, with a BICYCLE. That girl was pretty much drawn to perfection in that episode. Goldenboy was great; the guy who voiced Kintaro did a fantastic job on the dubs. One of the very few times where I really liked a dub job, and the voice actor seemed to really "get" what the show was aiming for. Quote
Bub Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Very funny anime in its time. Any merchandise are re-release for this series? Quote
Jemstone Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Well Axelay, ADV was nice enough to put all six eps on a 2 dvd set and it's cheap too! Man, don't remind me. That had pissed me off so much. Got the individual 2 DVDs. Then about just 3 weeks later ADV rereleases them on one disc in an 'Essential Anime" release. I was so pissed. Few animes where the "fan service" is funny and purposeful the more gratutious it is. Anything that can pull that off is great series. Quote
sktchrtst2002 Posted April 19, 2005 Author Posted April 19, 2005 Heh I feel your pain Jemstone! A week after buying THE SIXTH SENSE they released the 2 disc special edition! Good thing is you can always sell the old versions to small shops. Sure they won't give you much but still you get some $$ back. Quote
johnkillingsworth Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Does Kintaro save the world in the manga? I wonder if there's any anniversary stuff going on for GB? Figures of the girls in the series would be awesome! Quote
sktchrtst2002 Posted April 20, 2005 Author Posted April 20, 2005 And was the MANGA ever released in the U.S.??? I have been looking online and can't find if it has. I have seen pages from an Italian website ( I think) and they look nice. Anyone know? Quote
Mercurial Morpheus Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 http://www.ayanami.fr0zen.com/manga/manga_goldenboy.htm Great series. Quote

FlyingPika Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 ack, i hated it (so lame), except the uber bike ramping off the dam seen. Quote
Fortress_Maximus Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 I loved GB, the anime was toned down considerably but all the same hilarious and highly imaginative. One thing people should be aware of was the fact K in the manga wasn’t quite as altruistic, so… **Spoiler** Well in the manga series K ends up meeting a bunch of other beauties from his past and after a series of events, gets stuck in a virtual world. Some of the ladies care about him, but his goes up against some new characters that do not care for him at all. As you can imagine the scenes and situations are quite sexually graphic and in the end, there is no clear resolution for K. GB the anime series has some merchandising but it depends on what you like to collect. Cels seem the most popular among hardcore fans. If you are interested, there was a spin off series created by the same team that worked on the original GB manga. Quote
sktchrtst2002 Posted April 25, 2005 Author Posted April 25, 2005 Spin off series??? Did it include Kintaro?? Quote
Fortress_Maximus Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 Don't recall the manga is over four years old and I wasn't that interested in it. Quote
Legioss Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 I have a Goldenboy cel. http://marmalade.rubberslug.com/gallery/in...sp?ItemID=49195 Quote
ComicKaze Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 Reading the manga now. What a great manga. Kintaro is my role model...well except for the toilets. Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 I always loved the 2nd episode plus it`s my favorite one. Quote
