Interesting tidbit I found on IMDB about Robocop:

ED-209's voice is that of producer Jon Davison. ED-209's body was based on the design of a Bell helicopter and the overall appearance is reminiscent of a line of toys named Robotech which were based on an 1980s animated cartoon series.

Probably the Officer's Battlepod. That looks the most ED-209ish.

On the SE DVD the Production designer said he drew alot of influence from japanese robots and gave them a Detroit steel feel(big open mouth radiator up front?) Also he stated that the front of the head itself was influenced by a killer whale.

Rob Bottin is the designer responsible for Robocop and ED-209. He's was one of the best designers during the 80's sci-fi era. He also did a lot of make up effects for Legend, The Howling, The Thing, Total Recall, Seven and Fight Club.

Ah Craig Davies did ED-209. All these years I was under the impression it was Rob Bottin responible for both. Nice page Pfunk, thanks.

Rob started it but the responsibility was taken from him when he took too long and his designs werent exactly what they were looking for. He did however do the prosthetic work for Murphys death scene.

This article reminds me of when Cinefex was a fun read. It makes me sad for the soft vynil kit ED-209 that I have unfinished in the garage for years.
