promethuem5 Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 You put all that gorgeous effort into a 1/60 instead of a 1/48!? Simply stunning. It looks fantastic from what I can see.... some profile shots would be nice. How DID you do the soft weathering? Quote
hirohawa Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 (edited) This wasjust a quickie to play around with plastikote and fusion. This 1/60 was a botched Hikaru that was donated to me I was originally just gonna do a Kakizaki but wanted to give the max scheme a whirl. The soft shading is done with an airbrush, and oil paints for the streaks. Edited April 9, 2005 by hirohawa Quote
peter Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Nicely done....I think it's the best 1/60 I've ever seen.....someone prove me wrong? Quote
promethuem5 Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Oh man! Those pics are just gorgeous. I am sooo envious. I really like your drybrushing on the blue parts, it complements the gray stuff on the white well without over darkening the blue. Gorgeous. Quote
Zentrandude Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 nice but is it covered in speckles or its just the camera? Quote
promethuem5 Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Actually I believe there are a few speckles of darker paint... maybe intentional or maybe just airbrushed paints that beaded up a little more... I don't think it really detracts from the look. Quote
BoBe-Patt Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 ya, that's some good custom on a 1/60 dood!!! Quote
Dangard Ace Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Now that's a nice valkyrie. Show's what a great fighter mode the 1/60 has. Quote
EXO Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 nice but is it covered in speckles or its just the camera? the speckles are on the valk, but I bet you can't see it with the naked eye. Cameras usually pick up way more detail than you can see. Quote
valkyrie312 Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Beautiful job! Congrats on the great work! Quote
Skull Leader Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 proof positive that the 1/60s are NOT a waste of time or money good job, man! Quote
Graham Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I'll get this added to the custom toy gallery pronto. Graham Quote
cambodian tire Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Your weathering looks tres realistic good work! Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Nice excellent paint job, my fave Yamato valky the 1/60 . I wonder why Bandai nor Yamato made a VF-1A (Max) ? Quote
hirohawa Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 (edited) Thanks for all the kind words. Plastikote is really great and I highly reccomend it for use on plastic. Just use it lightly. I also used White Fusion on the diecast legs per EXO's advice. The blue plastikote stuck onto the white fusion paint on the diecast legs with no problems. This is probably the #1 reason this sucker only took like a few nights to do. Also thanks to Exo for the recast pilot figure he gave me like two years ago when we first met. Also used Pinesol to strip off the original Hikaru scheme on the plastic parts. Before I did this custom I never really cared for the Max 1A but I really like the scheme now and will try it on a 1/48. Edited April 9, 2005 by hirohawa Quote
EXO Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 NO!!! We're gonna be oversaturated with Max 1As... I've already started mine. Mine won't be weathered though. It's gonna look like it came straight out of a Yamato box. Quote
hirohawa Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 (edited) Are you using the plastikote/fusion paints? The plastikote blue is less vibrant than the Fusion that is why I picked it. Edited April 9, 2005 by hirohawa Quote
EXO Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Fusion... I already have the can and I like the blue that I tested. Quote
Hoptimus Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Awesome except for one thing. Max's VF-1A doesnt have the white stripes on the arms or the white arrows on the head. Quote
hirohawa Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 I know took some liberties with the scheme. But the stripes on the arms and the arrows on the head are already panel lined so I couldn't resist. Also I think it breaks up the blue and unifies it with the white more. That is a cool 1/55 custom. I don't know if I have the patience to decal up mine. Quote
Godzilla Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Well despite some inaccuracies, nice job. I like the weathering paint job. Looks cool. Quote
Skull-1 Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Now that's a nice valkyrie. Show's what a great fighter mode the 1/60 has. The 1/60 is best in Battroid. I still think Fighter mode is hideous in the 1/60. But that one sure looks good.... Quote
Dat Pinche Haro! Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 great custom...it's nice to see the 1/60s get some love...you could decal it or at least use sticker decals...either way, very nice custom job... Quote
combined arms Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 it may not be anime accurate, but i think the white stripes on the arms and the arrows on the head actually look better than the "official" paint scheme. Quote
