I've been interested in checking out the series One Piece but I was wondering what others thought of it?

I mean, I don't mind Pirate shows, in fact I like the idea to be honest. I remember seeing a few episodes on Fox but Luffy's voice was really annoying. So I figured I'd check out the fansub versions or maybe check out the dvd versions if they have sub on them if they are ever released if I like the show. Or maybe his voice had to grow on me. I've wondered if the his voice was suppose to be like that to match the japanese voice or was it just a case of bad casting.

Anyway for those that have seen the show or read the manga, what are you opinions of the show?

Would your recommend it? Does it look like it will any time soon?

How many movies have been released?

Ratio of male and female characters?

Any romance for the main character?

Is the show more comedy then adventure or both?

Does it get serious at times or does it never take itself serious or have serious drama?

Anything else you can say would be good.

Thanks.

Mainly bad voice acting, I can't remember one peice anime all too well but I think it was a deeper voice. I know alot of anime use female voice actors for male roles.

Its ok, but the characters are drawn bit with animal charactistics. ( bear dna somehow got mixed into alot people there :D )

like for every 50 male theres 1 female. (if you include anon pirate crews) without it is like 5:1 i guess.

more adventure.

Personally I liked the manga better than the anime... the voice acting were a far departure from what I had in mind. Yeah, Luffy's voice is also annoying in the Japanese version... fits his character somewhat though.

Voice acting aside, it's a great series, just a tad different from what I had in mind in terms of voice acting.

Oh yeah:

No romance in sight. All about comeraderie here, matey!

More adventure, but a healthy dose of comedy thrown in.

Quite a few movies.

Unfortunately, since 4Kids got ahold of the series, it's unlikely that we'll ever see an unedited version of the show. I'd reccomend the manga in that case. I started watching the fansubs a while back, but didn't get far before it was licensed and everything was pulled. The show seemed decent. Not exceptionally great, but fun. seemed to be on track to become a typical shonen semi-tournament style anime.

Well, I watched a few episodes but the series is so looooonnnngggg, it is almost impossible to bare ;)

I mean the last I heard they were on episode 150 or something and still no end in sight, so if you want to collect the whole series be prepared.

Otherwise, the OVAs are pretty good. Art wise, not the best but let's say different in a good way though!

actually I liked the manga more than the anime...but still the anime is quite good too...and I would recommend to watch all the movies too (I think 6 of em already...with the last one entitled "the cursed sword")~! Great story lines for both the movies and series and of course the jokes! Cant bear laughing watching all the episodes from 1-210 ...hehe..bought it off ebay since the w/s Im dl-ing it from is too slow releasing the fansubs..but Im warning you ...latest DVDs of this serie can costs you an arm and a leg

Stay away from the American version like the plague. The Japanese original is full of wonderful harsh language and crude humor that cannot be shown to American kiddies. Sanji, for example, is a chain smoker--not a lolipop afficianado.

If you don't speak Japanese and can read subtitles quickly, the best place to go for One Piece episodes is Kaizoku Fan Subs http://www.kaizoku-fansubs.com/torrent/index.php.

I just got back from Tokyo and saw the latest movie in a theater. Sure, I couldn't understand a word of it, but I got the basic idea and still had a few laughs.

Adventure, comedy, more adventure, lots of fighting, insults, lots of eating, even more adventure, and virtually no romance. And more eating.
