terry the lone wolf Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Scott Benard and Ariel aka Marlene of Robotech's New Generation aka Mospeada: Quote
1st Border Red Devil Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Hmm...... not quite my cup of tea character design-wise. Quote
terry the lone wolf Posted April 5, 2005 Author Posted April 5, 2005 Also HG will be running animated PSAs featuring Robotech characters celebrating the United Nations. These will also feature actors such as Sean Connery and Michael Douglas. Here's a little pic; Thanks Darkwater of shadowchroniclesnews.com: Quote
1st Border Red Devil Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 I'm guessing that Ariel will be a Gosu or Gosamu pilot this time around. I'm also guessing this takes place months after the Battle of Reflex Point, cause Scott's new hairstyle doesn't match his old one. Quote

Keith Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 It's a good thing they look absolutely nothing like they did in Mospeada, otherwise Mospeada fans might be angry... Quote
jenius Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Mospeada fans angry??? I think Mospeada fans are the ones looking forward to this new RT chronicle the most... what else do we have to look forward to??? Besides, I'm not one of those people who thinks a terrible sequel ruins the original art so it's not like RT can ruin Mospeada for me... even if the characters were dead-on identical. Quote
jenius Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 hmm... i don't care if she is an Inbit/Invid... from my angle she's certainly worth my time of day Quote
EXO Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 (edited) looks good to me. I mean if it wasn't RT, I'd be asking what show that is. Did we need anothe SC thread though? Edited April 5, 2005 by >EXO< Quote

Oh you know, the anime-nazi kind who can't get over themselves.....they'll be the ones that are angry. Quote

Skull Leader Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 well the artwork looks at least passable... I'd have to see animation and sound with it before I'd pass final judgements.. initial thoughts from that screenshot: -props for evolving away from previous appearances -hella demerits for fooking up Scott's iron perm (lol, couldn't resist) Quote
CoryHolmes Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 I like that art style. The characters actually look like they have muscle and anatomy underneath their suits, which is a good evolution. Plus, they're not doing it in the uber-popular Pokemon/Digimon style of character design, which I utterly detest. Points for that. Quote
1st Border Red Devil Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 -hella demerits for fooking up Scott's iron perm (lol, couldn't resist) *snicker* He must have got a can of Ronnie Reagan's old hairspray somewhere in North America....you know...the stuff thats like rubber cement. Quote
UN Spacy Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 It seems pretty interesting so far. I'm more than willing to give it a shot. Scott looks FABulous. Quote
yellowlightman Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Not so keen on the uniforms, as they look oddly colores. Ariel looks like an Eva. But it's just one screen shot, can't judge too much from it. Quote
CoryHolmes Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Ariel looks like an Eva. Yeah, but that's how the Invid human uniforms looked in the original show, so... Quote
JB0 Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 I was expecting at least one Space Gandam V screenshot. I'm mildly disappointed. Quote
Radd Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 The screenshot is pretty rough, but if it's any indication then this new show will have the horribly oversaturated look to it that a lot of animation suffers from these days. Also, I'm not a fan of spandex, so I'm not digging the uniforms. I don't see how spandex is an evolution in character design. Still, when it finally shows up on tv I'll give it a look-see. I'm interested in seeing the MOSPEADA designs in action again. Quote

areaseven Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Artwork looks like it tries too hard to be Wonderful Days. But then again, we need a clearer image. Quote
Duke Togo Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 They could have atleast of gotten Yoshitaka Amano to do some decent character designs for the series. Those just look like EVA rejects. Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Not bad for character designs, at least they look mature but in the end its Mospeada-2 for me. Quote
Major Johnathan Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 It doesn't look like Scott to me. I would have liked something like how DYRL was animated, all the old characters looked just like themselves, only sharper and more detailed. The Invid mecha look kind of like the rejected designs in the Mospeada Animedia(?) book. They have the Invid 'look' but I'm still partial to the originals. Although I'm a die hard Mospeada fan, I did grow up a huge fan of the Robotech version.(even though I knew then some of the story was messed around with to fit the protoculture and Admiral Hunter stuff etc.) So, I'll try to keep an open mind, it's not like the Japanese will ever do anything with it again. But once more I say Mospeada was PERFECT for a prequel, not a sequel. They resolved the Invid problem at the end of the series. In a prequel they could explore the early days of the Invid invasion. When Lancer(Yellow), Jim(Lunk), Col. Wolf (Mj Johnathan) and Dusty Aires(Rainy boy) were all heavily engaged with the first Earth liberation effort. Dusty would still be all human, Col. Wolf a hero yet to turn traitor... so many stories they could've come up with. (note that Scott, Rand, Rook and Mint would all be too young to be involved in the story IMO.) Alas...what will never be... Quote
zeo-mare Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 i am still interseted in seeing this, though the girls clothes look like a EVA suit Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Besides RT-NG/Mospeada it was my No. 1 anime in 80`s even I prefer it more than RT-MS/Macross back then. I think it could be a worthy sequel than M7 and M0 for Macross. Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 though the girls clothes look like a EVA suit The Inbit/Invid humanoids had this out in the original seris. Quote

Cyclone Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Torn... Can't really judge Ariel/Non-frisky Living Marlene based on the fact we can't see her dead on, but Scott appears to suffer a redesign to make him edgier and the good looking simple style of the Mars Base uniform is tainted by IMO freakishly ugly Macross and SC styles and looks tacky. So it's the Sentinels all over again, ignore the character art and focus on the reused existing designs Cyc (who readily admits to personal blind sports such as if they get Frank Catalano back to voice Rand, Shadow Chronicles can do no wrong in his mind) Quote
Myriad Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Looks close to an Orguss to me. I will wait until I see it for a judgement... Quote
lt.actionjackson Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 I'm holding back final judgement until I see the redesigns of the Macross characters. If 'ol buckethead comes back, I'll be pulling the ripcord and bailing out. Quote
hellohikaru Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 oh man Stig looks to have lost several pounds since we last saw him in Mospeada. And what's with the hair style ? The Mars Base uniform appear to have been gone through a shrink packing process. Logo seems different now. Not sure about Aisha. I bet he has the same small eyes as the new Stig. Guess i will need see more of it before deciding on it. Hopefully we can get a glimpse of the completed version of the Point-K fighter and Jupiter Base. Quote
