They were definitely defenders inside the ship in DYRL. There's a brief scene where you see a Tomahawk and an off-screen Valkyrie (we see only the front half of its gunpod) firing at and being destroyed by Zentraedi power armors.

Hey, anyone knows where can I find good pic's of SD valks? I'm planing to make some t-shirts for my little nephew (the newest member of the crew) but I can't find something good with google.

... in the episode were Kamlin decideds to infiltrate, we only see Hikaru and a few destroids, what gives?

There's actually an excuse for this one. Most of the destroids were packed into the Daedalus and got blasted in the initial boarding operation.

Certainly they should've brought more VFs in, but...

anyway, I got a new question, how come in Macross, whenever an enemy infiltrates a ship, they are always engaged by one or very limited defense forces

I think I went over this in the MF mecha thread. Shooting inside the dome on a City ship is very dangerous. One stray shot could penetrate the dome causing more trouble. Then there's collateral damage of having big walking guns inside a city. And they learned their lesson, keep them away from the city.

by the way, I was under the impression also that the 19P was a more toned down version of the original 19 to make it cheaper so the Zollans could aquire it and still they only got one

No. The 19P is a version based on the VF-19 Custom. It still has everything a VF-19A or F/S version has. Head lasers, internal missile launchers, wing root lasers, choice of gunpods, etc.

The P is based on the A with all the advancements of the Custom (which too is based on the A), however instead of speakers in the shoulders there are "bolt on" sound force emitters. The F/S variants do not have variable geometry wings like the A and the Custom and are optimized for space flight. The A and Customs are optimized for atmostpheric flight as well as trans-atmospheric flight.

That isn't to say the F/S variants couldn't be equipped with these emitters, we just haven't seen any.

hi guys.. :p i'm a newbie in this thread. but i have been watching Macross/Robotech: Macross Saga since i was 9.. probably you had a lot of this questions asked in this same forum but i didn't have the time to read them all.. so my questions are the following:

what is the difference between robotech and macross series? i have seen the robotech series which were dubbed in english and just recently acquired and watch the Macross .. was it distrubtion?

what happened to misa and hikaru? i've read in a website that they got married, is it true? (i'm a sucker for love stories  ))

Hi Lakan! Welcome to Macross World Forum! :)

FYI, you can find out the difference between Macross and Robotech in this thread.

Misa and Hikaru are indeed married at October 2012 according to Macross Compendium, and together with Mimmay, are the crew of the Megaroad-01, first human colonization ship ever build. Megaroad-01 lost contact with Earth sometimes in 2016, and as of 2059, their fate is still a mystery.

The wedding was never shown.

You have your pick of

-Do You Remember Love? (movie)

-Flashback 2012 (music video)

-Macross II (OAV)

-Macross Plus (OAV)

-Macross 7/Macross Dynamite 7 (TV series/OAV)

-Macross Zero (OAV)

-Macross Frontier (TV series)

Posted (edited)

"Direct sequel" is not a very applicable term in Macross, since time lines always jump significantly between installments, as do settings and characters. Flashback 2012, Macross Plus, Macross 7 and Macross Frontier would all be relevant sequels to SDF Macross.

DYRL? is a retelling/reimagining of SDF Macross, Macross II is a sequel to DYRL? (and was ultimately set outside the official chronology and designated a parallel universe) and Macross Zero is a prequel that takes place before SDF Macross (though technically the events of M0 after take place after back story has been told of the alien ship crash landing on Earth).

ohh.. so many to choose from, but is there any direct sequel to the original macross?

No, not if you are looking for more Misa/Hikaru/Minmay. If you are looking for more Hikaru/Misa/Minmay, then Do You Remember Love? and Flashback 2012 comes the closest. DYRL? is a retelling of SDFM. In, FB2012, you see Megaroad-01 launch. Beyond that, only god knows. The other series all have their own protagonists.

Ahhh.. Thanks a bunch for the replies. You guys are really very helpful. I appreciate it! :)

Ah, So the megaroad-01 just vanished eh? I hope they find a better closure on the original protagonist (hikaru, misa and minmay) other than just "vanished". But if you look at it, t never vanished, it stayed and will be forever in our heart and minds. Sheesh i'm such a sentimental dude, hehe.. This series brings back a lot of memories back in the mid 90's (that's when I had the first glimpse of robotech/macross, but now I have the orginal macross series and makes much more sense when I watched it.)

That was certainly the whole point of making the Megaroad-01 vanish. The original Macross story and those characters will forever remain immortalized; we'll never know what happened in the end so we can only remember the fond memories of the story and the characters as they were :)

You too huh?

Anyway, Macross II has become a loose sequel to SDFM and FB2012, not so much to DYRL, though some tend to treat is as such since the term Meltran and Zentran are used frequently in that show. However in Mac 7 (Studio Nue chronology) the term Meltran is also used. However a certain key aspect of the original shows is the absence of any colonial expansion, which has become key to the Studio Nue chronology.

The mecha designs are based on the original destroids and the fighters are a hybrid of the VF-1 and VF-4 (not designed by Kawamori).

To get up to speed for Frontier, don't watch Macross II until after you've seen the Studio Nue productions, which are SDFM, Flashback 2012, Macross Plus, Macross 7 and Macross Zero.

Eventhough Macross Zero is a prequel it appears to be implicitly referenced in Macross Frontier.

Also, keep in mind in the official Macross canon, the events of Macross Zero have been classified until about 2058, so the characters in FB2012, Mac Plus and Mac 7 were not aware of them at the time their stories were told.

Anyway, enjoy Macross! The universe is much more vast and deeper than the RT universe.

I am currently watching Macross Zero and it is really awesome I am now at chapter 4 of it, though the copy I have have a troublesome subtitles.. Damn! The names are all mixed up and I can't keep up with the story because the sub is totally out of sync. Does anyone has a english translated script of Macross Zero?

Macross II was not made by studio nue right? I've read it at macross compendium.

I've seen already DYRL, its the OVA of the SDF Macross right?

hmmm.. So the Macross Plus is just an OVA? Theres no series on it?

What's up with Macross frontier? Is it a completed series?

I'm really sorry for being such a noob.. Hope you guys can help with my questions!

Although MII was made by Big West, it did not have involvement from either Kawamori or Studio Nue.

Actually, it's a movie.

OAV series or 1 movie compliation.

Nope. It was made by BigWest though. So as far as BigWest is concerned it is Macross. Albeit it is relegated to alternate universe status since it doesn't fit in with the Nue continuity.

I've seen already DYRL, its the OVA of the SDF Macross right?

It was a full blown theatrical movie back in 1984. Not a direct to video show like several other Macross shows.

Macross Plus is a 4 part OVA series and a movie that combines most of the OVAs as well as has additional footage.

What's up with Macross frontier? Is it a completed series?

It is the new 25th Anniversary TV series premiering in Japan this coming Friday. No episode count has been officially mentioned so most here expect it to be about 26 episodes which is the standard length for an anime show in Japan.

I'm really sorry for being such a noob.. Hope you guys can help with my questions!

Everyone was a noob once, though some tend to deny it... :p

Another question: what's VF-X and VF-X Ravens? Are there any connections between the two?

VF-X usually refers to the game, Macross VF-X. It also refers to Variable Fighter-Developmental. The VF-X Ravens are 727th Independent Special Command unit featured in Macross VF-X 2 that your character is a part of.

To further muddy the waters, there's also the VF-1X, an upgraded VF-1 with increased performance and modernized controls.

Does anyone has a english translation of the script of macross zero? The subtitles on my copy is whacked!

No, but I've watched three different versions of M0...one was the Hong Kong DVD (subtitles not TOO bad, considering some of the train wrecks I've seen on HK subs) and two different fansubs. Strangely, even the fansubs had some weird grammar and terminology problems.

I'd suggest downloading the "A-F & AF" version, which seems to me to be the least unacceptable (although they do appear to have Robotech on the brain..."Focker" is "Fokker" and "Battroid" is "Battloid." Still, it's way better than the HK one, in which "Focker" is "Fuxutoka" or something...)

Then there's the VF-X bathroom sign that Isamu Dyson walks past in MP.... well... ok... I'm sure it wasn't a bathroom sign...but it did say VF-X....

Why is it not in the Compedium? Fake?

Chronology of VF-X 2 planets and missions?

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%9E%E3%...%E3%82%B9_VF-X2

Characters biography:

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%9E%E3%...%B8%80%E8%A6%A7 (same informations are on the game manual)

Look the dates of the VF's story:

http://forums.odysseyweb.idv.tw/index.php?...entry5301

Is it official or not? It seem's doubtful (like VF from Macross since 1983) but:

http://www5.ocn.ne.jp/~sieg/chronological_table.html

The same here:

http://www.macross-funclub.com/project/history/

From wikipedia japan, Macross page:

異星人との有事に備え、統合政府の元で旧世界の軍事組織を統合・再編して生まれた軍隊。作中では「統合軍」と呼ばれる。2001年に陸軍(U.N.ARMY)、空軍(U.N.AIRFORCE)、海軍(U.N.NAVY)が設立され、2005年に宇宙軍(U.N.SPACY)が加わる。and elsewhere:

...I'm lost.

The chronology (at least the pre-wikipedia version of the Compendium) does have an extremely brief mention of VF-X and VF-X2. It's basically limited to the start and end dates (start date for only VF-X, and two potential ending dates for VF-X2 - due to the two different outcomes possible in the game.)

Basically, IMHO, I think that the creator of the Compendium never played the game. Or else we'd see things like additional planets and their descriptions in the compendium; which only appear in the mission briefings (an almost completely covered water planet in the Eden system for starters...)

Mind you, some people believe that what happens in the games are outside of the canon anime Macross. However, with the appearance of the VB-6 in Macross F, that may just change...

It should also be noted that much of our time importing to the wiki-format has just been that, importing. New and updated material is added as we go along, but our time is spent mostly on moving articles over to the wiki-format. The Compendium contributors will get to the games, but with Frontier airing and the importing of older articles, there is only so much we can do with our time.

As sketchley has noted, games are a grey area for the Chronology. When they are created with multiple endings, the timeline is adjusted based on which ending you finish with. Also, the player is in control, so the player controls the flow of the game, which may or may not reflect the scripted events of the game.

No, the VF-X 2 timeline is very clear, there are just an official alternative version (like Macross Plus movie edition or Frontier Deculture version). For example, the past of the characters is not affected by the events. I'm just surprised the dates are missing in the compendium since 1999... Another point, I found some strange valkyries in the links posted before. Egan Loo doesn't recognize them (he erased my update from the Wikipedia's Valkyrie page) but is he aware? I want to know if these valkyries are reals and officials. I'm looking for opinion of specialists:

VF-0 Phoenix (Phoenix designation is unanimously adopted by Japanese websites)

Otec VF-X2

VF-X3 'Medusa' (without codename project in Compendium)

Otec VF-X4 'Siren' (the previous version of the Lightning III)

VF-5000 Star Mirage (Star Mirage is not just a nickname as seen on Compendium, but now it's really the official name. Watch carefully the material from the Remaster Box Of Macross 7, for example...)

Northrom VF-5

Stonewell Bellcom VF-1Evo (in the game Macross Since 1983, a non canon game...)

Northrom Grumman VF-X-10

General Galaxy VF-X-12

In some cases I'd say yes, in other cases I'd say no. Commonly held beliefs in fandom can also sometimes be a very poor benchmark for what is official or not.

AFAIK, the "Phoenix" designation is still unofficial. The VF-5000 Star Mirage seems to have been officially adopted in official Macross publications (and your mention of it in the Macross 7 Remastered Edition), but Kawamori was on record in past years stating "Star Mirage" was just a nickname. It can be difficult to reconcile these issues and the Macross Compendium typically errs on the side of caution in areas that are ambiguous.

Posted

If it was just fan creation or confusion, it would also some others valkyries like VF-8, 13, 18, 20...and there is no such inventions. The doubt is permitted. In any case we will have the answer this year with Macross chronicle.

"Phoenix" was just added by Egan himself, with a note about it : http://macross.anime.net/wiki/VF-0_Phoenix

As well as "Star Mirage": http://macross.anime.net/wiki/VF-5000_Star_Mirage
