Does this mean that the VF-19 doesn't have missle hardpoints on its wings and only have launchers only on the legs? Same goes for the VF-11?

I believe so. Episode 44 of M7 was was filled with some mistakes. Namely the VF-11 leg hardpoints.

http://www.anime.net/macross/feedback/index.html

It is possible that they were also using a earlier draft of the VF-19's hardpoints. However, the hardpoints of the VF-19 are interchangable with other launcher systems so a VF-19 can carry a wide range of ordanance dependent on the mission specifics.

So VF-11 has no missles without fastpacks? Pffffttt......weird designs.

What is the designation for the New Macross-classes? Like how the Macross is SDF-1 the Uraga is CV-404.

There is no designation for them. They are just referred to as Macross-# (01, 02, 03, etc).

In this thread, J A Dare talks about a Macross 20th Anniversary product: does it present any fiction besides the CGs, ads and video-game clips or is it just for the hardcorest of the fans?

Thanks in advance :)

Just the hardcore need apply. :D

Yup, only openings and endings, video games clips, and a teaser for Macross Zero.

Thank for the reply :)

Another question: I just got DYRL Perfect Edition at Valkyrie Exchange and noticed some weirdness in the subtitles (I understand crap about japanese and base my note on the comparison between the french version of the movie -pretty crappy translation btw- and the Clash of the Bionoïds version), weirdness such as when Hikaru tries to fight back the zentrans who attempt to capture him and Minmey during their fun trip into the Saturn rings, he press the button but the weapon doesn't fire and he says something like "Oh no ! It's military use"... I didn't get it...

So my question is: how much these subs are faithfull to the original dialogues?

Again, thanks in advance :)

I assume you have this one:

http://www.valkyrie-exchange.com/video-boo...ectEdition.html

If you do, then my answer to:

how much these subs are faithfull to the original dialogues?

Apparently not very. Welcome to the wonderful world of HK DVDs. :)

As always with HK DVDs, they are not accurate as they are a translation from Japanese to Chinese to English, therefore, some of it is lost in translation. They are accurate enough for you to get a good idea of what they are saying however, it is not an entirely accurate translation.

He he, I expected something like that... :p

Then, the next logical question is 'Where can I find an accurately subbed version for my anime DVDs?' or more precisely 'In what forum am I supposed to post such question?' because I guess this doesn't really belong here... :)

Whats with the two spellings of the "bad guys" in SDF Macross?

Zentraedi

Zjentohlaudy

I remember in the subbtitles on the Macross Plus movie version, they used the first spelling.

Posted (edited)

Partial answer at http://macross.anime.net/feedback/index.html underr "What's in a name?"

In other words, the funky version of the name is an attempt to capture the "real" pronunciation of the word in the Zentradi language. BTW, it's "Zjentohlauedy" (note the "e").

Also note that the "Zentraedi" spelling is a Robotechism. Standard Romanization is "Zentradi" (no "e").

And look at http://www.animeigo.com/Liner/MACROSS.t under Secrets of Macross.

Edit: there's a PDF version of the animeigo liner notes, too, which differs slightly in that it generally uses the "Zentraedi" form. I don't remember which appears in the printed notes, but I think this version of the info is probably correct:

Zentraedi has been spelled several different ways, including Zentradi (first

Macross and Macross 7 notes), Zjentohlauedy (later merchandise for first Macross and then the

Do You Remember Love? movie), Zentraedi (Tatsunoko script translations for overseas markets),

and Zentrady (Nichimo's language stamp kit).

It all has to do with romanization. Ramu, Ram, Lamu, Lam, Lum. :p All the same green-haired oni-girl we know and love, but all also valid romanizations of her Katakana name.

For instance, is it: Ichijyo, Ichijio, Ichijoe, Ichijo, Ichijou, Ichijyou? Or Britai, Breetai, Briitai, Vrwhitlai, or John Cleese? :p

Posted

I beg to differ. If I'm not mistaken, the standard kana for "Zentradi" is

ゼントラーディ

which if you transliterate "normally" becomes ZENTOLADEI or ZENTORADEI.

The "Zjentohlauedy" version is an attempt using Roman characters to render the "actual" pronunciation of the word, or at any rate to represent a "standard" transliteration from Zentradi to English, rather than going from Zentradi to Japanese to English.

What is Hideaki Anno's involvement with Macross? I see his name mentioned a few times on the board in relation with hory froating head and there seems to be some kinda macross fanart here by Anno himself. (unfortunately its a broken link)

http://member.nifty.ne.jp/musyuku/BOOTLEG.html

Then there's also the Otaku no video OVA which mentions the Elintseeker as his design....which someone pointed was an in-parody/joke.

1) 1983.

2) Don't know. It may actually refer to the model-type of the protect armor as oppose to any meaning as we have seen various protect armor systems in Macross.

In macross plus (both editions), during Isamu and Guld battle in a city on Earth, I notice that there's some kind of enery coming from the YF 19's, and YF 21's hands in Battroid mode when Isamu lost his gun as Guld crashed through the building wall the YF 19 was standing next to. Is this some sort of weapon?

It is the pin point barrier energy gathered into the fist, aka Pin Point barrier Punch

I don't think that even the "Ground-Combat Protector Weapon System" description for the GBP is entirely accurate, seeing as to how it was being used in the series and DYRL? I mean this particular type of armor has seen more combat time in the vacuum of space than anywhere else. The Macross.anime.net description comes close, of course!
