SpacePirateNeko Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 My music preference is very ecclectic.Anyone going to Coachella? Nine Inch Nails and New Order on the same bill? i wouldnt miss it for the world Some of the stuff i listen to joy division /no smiths/moz new york dolls The Fall stooges Trex ramones pulp suede velvet underground Bowie St Etienne Lush My Bloody Valentine Belle and Sebastian The Cure Skiiny Puppy NiN Black Tape for a Blue Girl I could go on for hours ... the white drew carey Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 (edited) I've been playing Gwar's "Violence has Arrived" and "War Party" in my car for about 2 months now. Other favorites in heavy rotation lately are Lagwagon (my all time fave), Chixdiggit!, Snuff, Consumed, (old) Anthrax, (old) Metallica, De La Soul, Naked Raygun, Superchunk and Soul Coughing. Here's me and my buddies on our way to the Gwar show wearing the Gwar shirts I made (I'm the one on the right who is already half in the bag): Edited March 24, 2005 by the white drew carey
promethuem5 Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I like rock, some punk, and some metal: Favs: Green Day (goin to see them in concert for my birthday) Led Zeppelin Metallica (NOT later stuff...) AC/DC Black Sabbath (so much better than Ozzy's solo stuff IMO) Boston Pink Floyd Queen Maroon 5 (they're okay...) And lots of silly 80's music! And I must admit that A1's views country and rap 'music'.... almsot fell outta my chair laughing....
Akilae Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 On my playlist right now: Old Stuff: Beethoven, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Gershwin Old Fashioned Stuff: Andrea Bocelli, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald Newer Stuff: The Killers, Fran Ferdinand Soundtracks: Last Samurai, "Beyond the Clouds, the Promised Place"
MrDisco Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 i'm a big new order fan. can't wait for the new album to ship
JsARCLIGHT Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 (edited) I'm also a large New Order fan. I've owned every record since back in the Joy Division days... on vinyl even. My recent purchases are: David Bowie- Reality Moby- Hotel Daft Punk- Human After All U2- How to Dismantle... The Features- Exhibit A The Tubes- World Tour 2001 I'm also a collector of '70s and '80s music, all genres be it new wave, dance, pop, rock, electro, '80s rap (back when the music was about music and not how many "busters" you "capped") etc. etc. My tastes extend in all directions.. except three: country, heavy metal and modern rap. Those genres that are wasted on me in all ways, just incoherant noise to me. Edited March 24, 2005 by JsARCLIGHT
Phyrox Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Well, I am not going to give a laundry list of my favorites, but I need to ask... WHERE ARE AEROSMITH AND THIN LIZZY ON YOUR LISTS?! I don't think I saw either listed yet...and for that I am ashamed to be a MWer.
JsARCLIGHT Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Thin Lizzy is a great band, real pioneers... especially with the whole "two drive guitars" thing. They sort of started that and no one gives them credit really. I picked up Dedication a few years ago, great compilation if you want a comprehensive TL fix and don't want to buy all their albums. Then again Lizzy to most people is "boys are back in town" and that's about it. Too Bad PPL had to OD otherwise they might have made some more great stuff.
port Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I like just about like every thing from the 80s most of all.
jenius Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 A Perfect Cicle. Tool, NIN, White Zombie, Static X, Filter, Slipknot, Jawbreaker, At the Drive-in, Operation Ivy, old Bad Religion, and Rage Against the Machine. If I'm feeling more social it's more like Incubus, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Grand Funk Railroad, BTO, Beasties, God Lives Underwater... Eclectic... kinda. Funny that... a bunch of people who love 80s bands on a Macross website
Matt Random Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I'll listen to most anything except hip hop and rap. My favorite genre right now is country. Saw what you will, I dont care. My all time favorite band is Aerosmith.
Graham Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I mostly listen to older rock, pop and metal from the 70s, 80s and some 90s stuff. I can't stand most modern music and most modern pop as well as Rap, Hip Hop & trance makes me cringe. Here's some some of the groups I often listen to. The Doors Queen Marillion (Fish era only). The Clash Iron maiden (up to Powerslave only). WASP AC/DC Black Sabbath Pink Floyd Duran Duran Gary Numan Crowded House Space The Cure Credence Clearwater Revival Hawkwind SDF-Macross/DYRL/M+/M7/M0 OSTs Led Zepplin David Bowie Graham
gerwalk25 Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Hmm, let's see, I listen to all kinds of music mostly alternative, rock and Soundtracks. Here's a list in no particular order. The English Beat Save Ferris Bad Religion The White Stripes G'nR (Thanks GTA San Andreas commercials for putting "Welcome To The Jungle" in my head ) The Datsuns Kill Bill Vol.1 Modest Mouse GITS:SAC Postal Service The Simpsons: Songs in the Key Of Springfield Cool Boarders 2 (PSX) Jackass The Movie Soundtrack Street Sk8er (PSX) Kasabian Louis the XIV
J A Dare Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 My taste is all over the place...ska/blue beat, two-tone, oldies, motown soul, classic rock, punk (but I despise hardcore and emo), oi/streetpunk, indie rock, 80s, classical/orchestral, some electronica (does Vangelis count?), Jpop/asian, etc... Overall, my favorite genre is probably motown soul, e.g., Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Marvin Gaye, Temptations, The Supremes (best girl band ever!), etc... But my roots are in punk. Off the top of my head, if I had to list my top 3 bands... 1. The Jam (UK, 70/80s) 2. The Templars (NYC, 90s) 3. Fugazi (DC, 90s) ....and honorable mention: The Clash (UK, 70/80s) However, I'm really digging Asian pop at the moment. Anyone like the Jpop band Puffy (AmiYumi)? Although they cross many genres, they tend to have an indie rock sound mixed with Japanese cuteness. I saw them last year in SF (@ the Filmore). Their song, "Friends" (Tomodachi), has the same back beat as The Jam's "A Town Called Malice" (played in the movie "Hi Fidelity" with John Cusack). ***For Puffy AmiYumi Mailing List viewers in the US*** PUFFY AMIYUMI will be touring the West coast!!! Radd Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Man, where to begin? The Baroque period I suppose. Bach is probably one of my favourite composers. Queen is hands down my favourite band. Some other favourites: Blue Oyster Cult The Pillows KMFDM Daft Punk Humming Bird Mari Ijima Other music I'm big into: KISS Journey Michael Schenker Group John Sykes Johnny Cash The Cure The Legendary Pink Dots The Trees of Life L'Arc~en~Ciel Foetus NIN (especially Pretty Hate Machine and Broken) White Zombie Powerman 5000 They Might Be Giants David Bowie Peter Gabriel Genesis Dire Straights I could go on and on, these are just the bands that came to mind immeadiately. Of course I'm also into a lot of anime, movie, and videogame soundtracks, in fact those make up the bulk of my collection.
Graham Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 However, I'm really digging Asian pop at the moment. Anyone like the Jpop band Puffy (AmiYumi)? Puffy are OK, I've got a couple of their CDs, but for J-Pop/J-Rock I'm more into Nanase Aikawa. Graham
phuqueue Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I mostly (but not exclusively) listen to newer, 90s/00s stuff, largely indie rock. Team Interpol Joy Division/Warsaw The Libertines The Mars Volta Modest Mouse Muse New Order New Pornographers the pillows Pixies The Postal Service Radiohead Rage Against the Machine The Shins
wyaxyz Posted March 24, 2005 Author Posted March 24, 2005 Rock/Metal.Anywhere from KISS to Iron Maiden to Pantera to Lamb of god etc. I like Guar. saddam a go go yeah...gwar rocks!! they were in toronto last year....missed them, but i did get to see skinny puppy!! possibly the best concert i've ever been too! by the way, that concert i went to will be on dvd later this year! Was it actually skinny puppy? Last time I went to a skinny puppy concert it was just one of the guys from SP and a few other dudes. Was not that great. i'm not too sure what you might have seen. could have been either one of cevin key's or ohgre's solo projects....could've been download, tear garden, sunnypsyop or anyone of their self titled projects. the new cd is very good in my opinion and wayne static and danney carey both appear on one song. use less is the title....if you liked the process...this release is similar, only a lot better......and after 11 years since the last, it better damn well be!!! in case you're wondering...it's called greater wrong of the right track listing 1. i'mmortal 2. pro-test 3. empte 4. neuwerld 5. ghostman 6. downsizer 7. past present 8. use less 9. goneja 10. daddyuwarbash to see images of the concert i went to go to litany or skinny puppy faq and lyrical archive if images are no longer posted, i'm sure a google search will find some. sorry to hear about your bad experiance though.....i had one when i went to see download....only 1 member showed up and all he did was play some of his solo stuff under the name dead voices on air, and some live remixes of download. the music was good, but it would have been nice to see the whole band.....

Commander McBride Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Only the greatest band to ever walk the earth: Why would you talk about great bands, than post a picture of Motorhead You couldn't be implying that Motorhead...........doesn't suck? Seriously, just kidding, they've got a couple songs that I quite like. They remind me quite a bit of a very little-known Japanese group I like a lot, known as 8-Ball. Drift fans will know them, as they perform the official D1 theme, Need For Speed, outside that they're almost unheard of. I'm a big Eurobeat fan. Most know it from the mid-90s era Initial D stuf, however, the ID Eurobeat actually came at a sort of bad time in the genre's history. I've been liking a lot in the past few years, and I actually picked up some VERY old "That's Eurobeat" Albums today, enjoying them quite a bit. These are CDs from 1988 we're talking about it, and yet the songs can hold up quite well even today, although they maintain a very 80s sound in many of them. (I wanted to cruise the streets in a white Ferrari looking for drug dealers to bust, listening to many of them!) I'm a big fan of the SCP label's artists, including Fastway and Ace, and also like Dave Rodgers and his semi-successor Matt Land a lot. J-Pop and J-Rock are up there, although I've moved into being a much bigger eurobeat fan in recent years. Psycho Le Cemu has a few songs I really like. Do As Infinity and Akino Arai are up there on the pop end. I also like the soft J-Rock sound that artists like Galla, and to a slightly harder extent, Seki Tomokazu, have. I also like music from english speaking countries, as well. Leading my list are The Who. I'm also partial to groups like Zeppelin and even Lynrd Skynrd.

Thin Lizzy indeed rocks (as does your love for the sacred vinyl - go JSA! ) But I can't give them props on the dual lead guitar thing when Duane Allman and Dickie Betts pretty much defined that whole movement. But I can rock out to Cowboy Song whenever the hell I like.
Commander McBride Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Kenny G and such aren't Jazz, they're glorified easy listening. Interesting note, Kenny G totalled my cousin's car! Popped out of a driveway right into him. Cousin got a new car out of it, though, so not a bad deal.
Caufield Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I listen to anything that sounds good. Wether it be country or rap..or whatever. Right now though, a band which has caught my attention and I find all 3 of their albums astounding are The Black Keys.
Nightbat Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Well, I am not going to give a laundry list of my favorites, but I need to ask...WHERE ARE AEROSMITH AND THIN LIZZY ON YOUR LISTS?! Well, there are many bands I forgot I own the Thin Lizzy Life/Live album and enjoy it very much JsARCLIGHT: Though I can't find the source anymore but I read a Gary Moore interview where he spoke about Phil, claiming he actually tried to keep him busy, because since Lizzy broke up, Phil fell into a hole, he wasn't happy with the fact his band fell apart and this manifested in more drug-use

JsARCLIGHT Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Thin Lizzy indeed rocks (as does your love for the sacred vinyl - go JSA! ) I'm one step ahead of a lot of people... I or my father bought most of these albums on vinyl as they came out and I still have most of them. Nothing beats that hiss of an LP... then again I've "repurchased" all those old flats on CD just so I can keep them in the best shape possible. Then again nothing beats whipping out Boston/Boston original LP and firing it up... or some BOC or the Tubes. But I can't give them props on the dual lead guitar thing when Duane Allman and Dickie Betts pretty much defined that whole movement. I keep forgetting the darn Allmans. I think I have a hole in my head sometimes. But I can rock out to Cowboy Song whenever the hell I like. My personal Lizzy pics are Whisky in the Jar and Dancin' in the Moonlight.
