Get Free Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 Thanks to boinger now there is a Direct Connect Hub for this community. As the same way you guys connect to iMacross FTP servers using an FTP client you can connect to the new iMacross Hub server usind a DC client (direct connect client). This brings many advantages because there would be no more access problem to the server (until now very few people could connect to iMacross FTP servers at the same time and it was very difficult to actually connect to it). a DC Hub allow virtually unlimited (thousands) users connected at the same time. and the more users there are online the more you can download, since Direct Connect works the same way as any P2P software. The difference about this is that it is a Hub for this community so that only people that like macross will connect to it (hopefully). One single place to meet everyone on this community, chatting and sharing files. anyway, enough talking. using a DC client is as easy as use any other P2P software so there should be no problem to get online. the address of the Hub is imacross4.myftp.org (yeah, the same as the FTP server) The most popular DC client can be downloaded from here: http://www.dcplusplus.com/ The client I recommend can be downloaded from here: http://gempond.com/odc/ If you want some help to install the client, look here: http://www.b.ali.btinternet.co.uk/DCPlusPl...ingStarted.html http://e.1asphost.com/paulgeaf/ for people using a router also look here: http://www.portforward.com/cportsnotes/dc++/dc++setup.htm Quote

Get Free Posted March 22, 2005 Author Posted March 22, 2005 Am I doing something wrong? I've got logged in, and I can see boinger and Get Free, but I can't see any file lists. try using passive mode. If you are behind a router you should use passive mode. The problem about it is that 2 users in passive mode can not connect to each other. So, the best choise is to forward the port from your router directly to your DC client and then you can use active mode normally. look here: http://www.portforward.com/cportsnotes/dc++/dc++setup.htm Quote

Get Free Posted March 24, 2005 Author Posted March 24, 2005 basically you can do 3 things. 1) Chat with users just type in as any normal chat software 2) Download files from users two ways to do this: - open the search window and type in what you are looking for - right-click on a user an select "get file list" to look at his files and folders and select what you want to download (the file list could take some time to download depending on the amount of files of the user) 3) Let users download files from you go to the "Settings" dialog then to "sharing" and add one or more folders with the files you want to share, then set the "upload slot" field at least to "1" (that means that just one user can download from you at the same time). the white drew carey Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 OK, so what do I need if I have a Mac, it doesn't seem as if there are any free DC's for me... Quote

Mechamaniac Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Sw33t!! SO much cooler than iMacross ever was, at least speed wise!. Thanks! Quote
boinger Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 imacross4 back online Zapped my computer off by moving some cables around my computer, so I could set up my new tv. Quote
boinger Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 I might have accidentally banned people. I was just checking off a maximum bandwidth per user thingy. Even with cable modem, I'm only allowed 50-60 kb/s upload, so if one or two people download for a total of 60 kb/s then no one else can log on to the direct connect hub. Can anybody find a direct connect hub script to limit download speeds? I'll look for one, so more people can log on at any one time. Thanks! Quote
boinger Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 found a download limiter which is a different version of the dc client. But, I accidentally permanently banned mechanmaniac when all I wanted to do was adjust the download sped. I can't find the log file for the banned list for neomodus v2 dc hub. Any ideas? I need to get some sleep now because of working nights. Quote
Lindem Herz Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 I'm having quite the problem uploading. Running either passive or active mode, this thing seems to only send information upstream in bursts, reaching peak levels up to 24 kbps, normally settling in 10 kbps for a couple of seconds(max 5) then hugging ground zero for a minute or two or five. Downloading seems normal, though it goes slow, average 3 or 2 kpbs. Any idea about that? Quote
boinger Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 (edited) I guess I must have done something right because mechanmaniac is now un banned. I'm not sure why upload and download speeds are so inconstant. I could try switching direct connect clients to allow more people to connect, but at slower speeds. I going to try these 2 dc clients next weekend: dc++.673 or bcdc++ .673a For now, I'm just going to let the dc hub run for a couple of days before I switch dc clients. Try searching on the hub for files you'd like, since it's not just me file sharing anymore. *********** To connect: need direct connect client imacross4.myftp.org log on name: macrossworld name no password needed - try active or passive downloading *** minimum 1kb fileshare or the direct connect hub will not allow you to log on*** Edited March 27, 2005 by boinger Quote

Get Free Posted March 27, 2005 Author Posted March 27, 2005 Can anybody find a direct connect hub script to limit download speeds?I know a couple of programs that let you limit your incomming and outgoing bandwidth for a specific program.they are called Bandwidth managers: DU Meter: http://www.dumeter.com/ DUSuperControler: http://www.freedownloads.be/downloaddetail/384 I'm kinda lost. But people can download from you too right?yes, people can download from you if you are sharing something of course.that's the idea of a Hub, users can download from everyone else, not only from one single server. And about download and upload speed, those speed have the same behavior of any other P2P software, they are erratic sometimes (eMule, Kazaa, WinMX, etc..) because Direct Connect is a P2P software too. DLs and ULs speed depends on the bandwidth of both the users that is sending the file and the users that is receiving the file. Quote

akt_m Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 don´t know why but i can´t connect in the active mode (i am using sygate firewall and i checked the program to allowed connection). that´s bad because most of the users are passive mode, and passiveXpassive can´t connect to each other. is there any other client that doesnt have this kind of problem???
