J A Dare Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 Hey MW gang, I've received requests for the paper monster kit. Found the files on my old hard drive. Below is a link to the zipped files. I also included finished examples. Paper Monster Kit w/ Manual http://dare.to/sandbox/papermonster.zip Paper Monster finished pics (not mine, from old MW posts) http://dare.to/sandbox/papermonster_examples.zip Have fun! Jason Quote
macroadster Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 Thank you so much. I am too poor to afford a 1/72 resin kit, but I surely like to build this paper model. You are the best! Quote
kanata67 Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 weren't there a few "paper" plans besides the monster? I'm sure that ugly ass 4' cardboard sdf-1 could be done the same way. Anybody scan that? Quote
large Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 Hey; Thanks.........i´ve been looking for it since a long time............ Quote
Mule Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 what type of paper is best? I used 90lb card stock. Worked fine for the scale I built it. I printed mine as large as it could be on 8.5x11 in paper which came out to about HO scale (1/89ish). Some of the large areas needed to be reenforced by adding a second layer. If you want to make it larger, you might want to use a heavier stock. Quote
Jasonc Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 I put this together already. Here's my advice on building this: 1) Use 110# card stock paper. this makes for a solid paper monster that you can actually play with if you wish. 2)If you can, print it from a Color Laserjet, not a cheap color printer. Trust me, it's better. 3)If you have photoshop or a similar program, create a page of just the green color and print that on the backside of the printed pages. No white will show in exposed areas. 4)Don't use scissors to cut it. Use a good exacto knife and a ruler. And also, fold with the ruler. 5)Use elmers white glue. Not too many options there, but that stuff just works. 6)Have lots of patience. This thing takes forever to put together right. But when it's done, it looks awesome and it's big. I have friends that still look at it at amazement cause it's all paper. Any questions? Quote
promethuem5 Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 Yeah.... good point on the folding. I'm always too lazy to crease properly.... and now I wish I had on my Monster Quote

Jasonc Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Jasonc, I'm filing your post for future reference when I actually have the time to build it.Thanks! That's cool. I hope all that helps. The 110# cardstock is the best. It's probably the hardest paper that will come out of a printer. But I will submit pics of it tonight. Quote
boinger Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 I was wondering at what resolution to print out the model or what size paper to use if I would like the monster to be at 1/60 scale? Quote
promethuem5 Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Uhhh.... Ginormous to say the least.... that would be big paper.... more than 11x17 I think... Quote
Jagull Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 any tips on them evil round parts? already screwed mine up Quote
Jasonc Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 As you can see, mine has white spots on the folds, but with a green or black marker, these can go away. I tried this and it works, but once I was finished, I was so happy, I never finished the marker touch ups. any tips on them evil round parts?already screwed mine up I used a roller pin for that. It's extremely challenging, but will do the job. Quote
Myersjessee Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 man...I tried to do one of these....WAY to much work! I'd rather poke my own eyes out! Quote
Jasonc Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 I was looking at the barrels of the last pic, and realized that dust is all over that thing. It's been on the shelf for a lonnnnnng time. Quote
Solscud007 Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 wow im glad my paper monster has brightened so many of you. Thanks actually goes to old school member LSwone for hooking me up with one. Thanks Louis!!! Quote
Mule Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 any tips on them evil round parts?already screwed mine up Which evil round parts are you talking about? If you're talking about the barrels, try rubbing the sheet over the corner of a table to give it some bend. Then, you may want to try using a wooden dowel for support while you glue the barrel closed. Also, don't try glueing all the tabs in the barrels at once. Take it one or two tabs at a time. Does that help, or are you asking about a different part? Quote
Mule Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 (edited) BTW, I made a B/W paper monster about a year and a half ago. I didn't feel like wasting all the color toner, but I also wanted something a little different. Here's the thread with the pics and some tips: The Link Edited March 16, 2005 by Mule Quote
baxojayz Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Bravo! I'm going to transfer this to plastic and epoxy. Thanks! Quote

Grayson72 Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Yup, fold down all the tabs as flat as possible, close the "lid" of the round part, then glue the tabs from the inside and fold them back up to stick to the inside of the part. (if that makes sense, speaking in generalities since I made this one a long time ago) Quote

the white drew carey Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 A long time ago I started cleaning up the .pdf files but I stopped. I've started up again, and this time I'm also going to add some weathering and shading. Once I'm done I'm going to offer 3 versions: 1) The unshaded version. 2) The shaded, weathered version. 3) The shaded, weather version in layers so that users can create their own color schemes. Here's a sample of the original and the "optimized". Pardon the file size. Quote
macroadster Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Looking good. I still haven't found the time to build mine yet. Looks like I will wait for the shaded version then build it. Quote
