Hurin
Howdy All, While I was grafting new subtitles to my DYRL DVD (thread), I noticed something. Forgive me if this has already been debated and/or addressed: Does Max go over to the Meltran? Is he a traitor? I had always noticed him in the Meltran power armor and figured: Oh, Milia came over to our side just like in the TV series. But wait. That doesn't quite fit what we actually see. It may be the other way around: It looks to me like Max gets trapped in the Meltrandi ship after he duels Milia. And when we next see him, he's suiting up in Meltrandi power armor. But. . . at no point are we told that any Meltrandi have gone over to the side of "culture" and taken part in the truce that the Zentraedi (males) and the Macross have established. So, I guess the real question is: Is Milia such a hot piece o' -ss that she turned Max against the last remnants of humanity in the universe?!? Or am I interpreting this completely wrong? Hurin
They fought against the Zentradi along with the SDF Macross. Yes, but before the Zentraedi split into Britai and BoDolza factions during the final battle, exactly who did Max think he would be fighting? I suppose you could say that he only intended to help the Meltrandi against the Zentraedi. But, if you assume that he knows of the Zentraedi/Human peace treaty, you have to wonder exactly how that's okay. It's not quite so simple as a one sentence answer would seem to imply. Mechamaniac
Howdy All,While I was grafting new subtitles to my DYRL DVD (thread), I noticed something. H While it is never said that the Meltrandi have gone over to the side of culture, I think the facts speak for themselves. Max duels Millia, and Max wins. Or at least, is the least bloodied by the fight. He gets trapped when the Meltrandi ship folds. Now, up until that point the Meltran seemed to kill just about everything they saw. This leads me to believe that Max and Millia's dual awakening IE the "Utsukushii" scene, probably led to some sort of awakening of culture aboard at least that Meltrandi ship, so I think by the time of the final battle, they are fighting on the side of culture. Before that, they were just figting the Zentraedi, so either way, they were already sort of on "our side". The enemy of my enemy is my friend after all. If they were not, I think they would have squished Max into oblivion about ten seconds after they found out he was on board. Beltane70
Look at the situation in another possible angle, Max could have convinced Milia to join humanity's side.
terry the lone wolf
Max wasn't a traitor;I always thought that Max & Millia were suiting up for the final battle with Bodolza. Bodolza just detroyed Lap Lamiz and the city under the sea. I think everybody knew this was going to be the last fight.

wolfx
Or they did abit of "culture" on the meltran ship ....max being the only male on board shows them more "culture" and converts the whole ship to his cause. He IS a genius gentleman after all. I'm sure he'll do it if that's what it takes. Well seriously like Mechamaniac said, either way they will still be fighting the Zentraedi. And if Max is macronised....he probably was accepted into their ranks...despite being male AND miclone....man Max can do anything with women can he? Anubis
Well, he was stuck on the Meltran ship when the fight started, and since he just made a new friend, he was able to get macronized, hop in a Q-rau, and join the fight. No way Max would have stayed idle. I'm sure right after the fight was all over, he radioed in and let everyone know what happened.
eugimon
Wasn't there supposed to be some pages scripted but not animated where max as a giant tells the SDF of the situation and the impending attack by bodolza? Might be off on this, trying to write a paper on Hamlet at the same time.. hahah.
Roy Focker
See the DYRL Story Board Book.
Renato
Yes. I translated the script for that scene. Wonder what happened to it? Did anybody save it? Have the old boards gone forever..? Anyway, Max is a traitor, because in that scene they used Max and Millia's marriage as a culture shock weapon to get the Zentradi to surrender their arms and "embrace the love" or something. They would then seize the opportunity to launch a strike against Fishbowlhead (Bodolzaa). So ther you have it. Women are UNIVERSALLY evil.
