Hikuro Posted January 14, 2004 Posted January 14, 2004 HERE I just got my YF-1R review up so go ahead and read my detailed and yet vague thoughts I'm such a sell out lol. The Alphas were advertised in the back of the YF-1R manual so it's not a ditched toy thank god.
Apollo Leader Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 Hopefully it's okay that I post this, but it sounds like the earliest that the first of the MPC Alphas will arrive will be late April... but that's okay since I'd rather Toynami get things right and it will let me have time to set aside some dough.
Hikuro Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 Oh yeah keep forgeting but here's a collage of my custom MPC. Took a few months but it's pretty much done.
Starnite Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 If the new alpha's are going to be 1/55 the better be reducing the price on those suckers, 80 bucks for a toy that is likely to be nearly half the size of the MPC VF-1 is overly out rageous (even more so then 80 for a MPC). I hope either the scale is actually larger (1/48) or cheaper price. Though I can see them going with 1/55 to keep it in scale with the Veritechs.
Hikuro Posted January 23, 2004 Posted January 23, 2004 According from what I've read and sources as well, anytime between Feburary or April of this year, why it's being pushed back I don't know, but if it's going to be anywhere higher than 50 bucks I'm gonna pass, regardless of how nice it looks.
Kin Posted January 24, 2004 Posted January 24, 2004 Reminds me of my project at work... slow...progress.... makes me boring...zZzz.
Apollo Leader Posted January 24, 2004 Posted January 24, 2004 Kevin told me a few days back that Toynami had received its preproduction model very recently and they are making the final tweaks to the toy. Looks like we should expect late April or later. My guess of when we'll first see it will be the New York Toyfare (again, me guess).
Californium Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 http://www.toymania.com/news/messages/4569.shtml ....I thought the canopy was supposed to be clear. Just another display model with incorrect paint?
VF-1Guy Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 New pictures and info available at Raving Toy Maniac. The metallic paint looks to be gone. Unfortunately, the canopy looks to be painted. What use is a pilot figure if you can't see it? More info at Toy Fair. RTM Article
VF-1Guy Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 http://www.toymania.com/news/messages/4569.shtml....I thought the canopy was supposed to be clear. Just another display model with incorrect paint? Grr. You beat me by 3 minutes!
Shaggydog Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Man, I'm sure the mospeada nitpickers and the anti-toynami goon squad will hate it, but that's just a beautiful toy. The canopy looks pretty cool to me, although it'd be nice if they had a clear one too.
Legioss Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 There's something about that Scott Bernard that's not right. Maybe it's the ears or the "Jim, I've been looking at you" expression.
Cyclone Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Cyc's new wallpaper! It looks very good now....well...apart from the painted canopy. Also the angle they picked for Armo-Diver forces us to look right into the gap where the sensor pod panel used to be... Cyc
bsu legato Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 There's something about that Scott Bernard that's not right. Maybe it's the ears or the "Jim, I've been looking at you" expression. I dunno...it just looks like that same "male" face Tommy Yune cut and pastes onto every character he draws. Change the hair and you've got his rendition of Rick Hunter. Change the hair again, and you've got Jack Archer. Oh yeah, the MPC looks pretty good.
ewilen Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 I hate the drawing too but that's irrelevant... Speaking as someone who didn't like the first pics of a painted Toynami Alpha, I've got to say this one looks pretty nice. With the exception of the cockpit, of course. I can't even begin to guess why they would have the opaque cockpit either for the preview or for the final version. Still, even if it turns out to have top-quality construction, I personally wouldn't pay $80 for a 1/55 Alpha. Not a big Mospeada fan (among other factors).
JELEINEN Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 http://www.toymania.com/news/messages/4569.shtml....I thought the canopy was supposed to be clear. Just another display model with incorrect paint? Someone mind reposting the pictures here, please? I'm at work and I'm blocked from the link given above. Thanks.
Mallet21 Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 must buy if not 80$ Don't worry, based on RT's previous MPC releases, you should be able to pick these up for $40 6 months after they come out. That is unless you buy them from the RT.com store where they sell all their merchandise at prices that are above MSRP.
bsu legato Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Anybody who wants to see what a potential MPC Cyclone should look like, should go here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...t=ST&f=3&t=4936
Cyclone Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 There's something about that Scott Bernard that's not right. Maybe it's the ears or the "Jim, I've been looking at you" expression. IMO it's the hair. Too long at the bottom, too short up top. The absolute lowest it's meant to go is the top of jaw. The too long face and much too high forehead could be skewing it. Cyc
1st Border Red Devil Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 (edited) Preorder for the VF/A-6H Alpha MPC is now open at the Robotech.com store.... Robotech.com Alpha Preorder Page Edited January 27, 2004 by 1st Border Red Devil
ewilen Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 (edited) The preorder page has pics, but here are the pics from toynami's site, which I've resized (to 30%) and compressed a bit. Battloid: Edited January 28, 2004 by ewilen
ewilen Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 (edited) [crap, forgot the image] [Might as well give a link to the Toynami page which has links to the big pics: http://www.toynami.com/gallery/download/alpha-mpc.htm ] Edited January 28, 2004 by ewilen
Dangard Ace Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 Hey, that actually looks pretty nice..... ....but I'll wait until it's actually out.
Phyrox Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 I gotta say, I like it. I like it a lot. I wonder if the canopy has something to do with not having enought vertical space in the forward fuselage to fit the retracted head and a decent cockpit. Can't tell from the angles I've seen so far, but it could be a factor... I really hope these go for less than $80. If they went for $40 or so (like they should) I would probably get the whole set. For $80 I'll just pick up one.
CoryHolmes Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 To quote a certain yellow animated character... Glarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh Pardon me while I drool all over my keyboard. This is one good looking toy. I don't know how many of these suckers I'm going to buy, but I know it's going to be a lot...
rewooh Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 I'm not feeling the blue cockpit. I wish yamato would inveset in a mospeada line. only if..
Mechafan Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 I am down with everything sofar but the cotpit too. I want a clear one. Maybe that was for picture enhancement like the prototype with matallic paint.
rewooh Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 (edited) orry, i doubled posted by accident, but i had a question anyways... Does any one know the reason for the blue cockpit deal? Its very ugly looking imo. i don't remember the cockpit being blue..and i doon't recall a heat shield either. and does it have interchangable heads as well? I saw some in another pic i saw of it.
