Ultimate remold:

MP Prime into a full Ultra Magnus.  It'd be one heck of a big trailer, but it'd be cool.  :)  Or just sell the trailer as an add-on for those who bought the Ultra Magnus MP repaint.

You seen this?

He did a pretty damn good job, it's just too bad you'll be dropping almost a grand to get one. <_< Oh well if you're a huge magnus fan maybe you can justify it heh... but who's a huge magnus fan?

woaw! So it IS true! It's going on my must have list.

Can't wait :)

I think I'll buy this OP just because of the Kawamori Pic in the package :)

Do you guys know why are these called Hybrid style? Is it because Kawamori design it? If so, who designed the previous Hybrid?

Thanks!

The left one is the test shot of the Alt./BT Mirage set to be released in May/June in the states. And yes he will be blue and white.

As for the Yellow and Black GT on the right, that's a picture of the Roadbots GT in Robot mode. The Roadbots line is about 1:18 in scale so it's alot bigger in comparison to Alt/BT's 1:24 scale. This line IMO is hit or miss. This one looks awesome, but some of the others they've released and have on the horizion look a little too blinged out for my tastes.

Haven't cared for Transformers in ages but the idea of a good looking Starscream is to much (loved my old G1 version as a kid). Can't resist transforming planes.

And that little Optimus looks really nice.... by the way, my wallet is starting to hate this whole site.

Yup. AKA Roadbots. Apparently coming over to NA through some small name company. You can also buy them off ebay. Search terms, Toyota Robot

he does not look to bad, i will need to see color pictures of him first, hopefully he will not be full of neon and awkward colors, if they can stick with G1 style colors he should be awesome.

Interesting bit of news and pix about a possible remolded G1 Astrotrain.  Any thoughts?

c... could this be first proof of neo-G1? Kick ass! bullet train eh? well it still looks pretty good, though I would have prefered him to be a classic steam engine, can't have it all though.

Its not remolded - its an all new Astrotain from the upcoming Transformers Classics line, the pre-movie Neo-G1 line.

Unfortunately, Tformers shouldn't have posted these pics, because its a resin prototype never meant to be seen unless its in an official capacity (such as a convention or magazine article).

From what I am told, these pics were originally from the Japanese Patent office, so both Hasbro and Takara will not be pleased.

Looks better than the old Astrotrain, but it has too much kibble in all modes. >_>

Not often that I make such strong comments about a TF, but: it's crap IMHO.

Fake shuttle that looks like the fakey recent Jetfires, and a fakey generic fake bullet train.

G1 was much better---it was NASA's orbiter, and a REAL locomotive. And it looked far better in both vehicle modes. (Because it was real).

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate fake vehicles for TF's? If they make neo-Sideswipe some concept car and neo-Starscream some fake space-plane, the whole line will suck IMHO.

Posted (edited)

Actually weren't the TFs originally all vehicles that were non terrestrial because they lived on cybertron? (the disguise was used only after they came crashed on earth when they mistake the aliens lifeforms to be the shape of cars?)

I think this makes sense for the autobots being protectors then choosing disguises that would work close to civilians, while the decepticons wanting more power, choosing disguises closer to military vehicles and weapons.

Not the biggest tf fan but I wouldn't mind seeing some fake space plane if done tastefully. (ie jetfire becomes a yf19 :D joking)

That's right. But if Astro train was called ASTRO TRAIN before he landed on earth (most of them were given names based on their transformation when they land on earth i reckon) were there trains in bullet trains cybertron?

And can someone explain to me WW Grimlock. I thought he was made on earth.

Meh, Astrotrain is OK. I don't really like train or shuttle mode. Bot mode would be better if the nosecone flipped up at the shoulders rather than being on his arms. I'm still excited to see the rest of the line.

TV and Comic continuity does not exist.  Anything that happens in one does not happen in the other.

Anyone seen the fan retouched+colored photos? Robot mode looks better, but shuttle mode REALLY looks like "shuttle with a train on the wings".

G1 Astrotrain---95% train parts in train mode, 95% shuttle parts in shuttle mode. This new one has like 40% train parts in shuttle mode, and 40% shuttle parts in train mode. I can't help but think "train-shaped snake" in train mode.

Actually you know---with a bullet-train nose and windshield shaped like that, why didn't they just use the same nose and cockpit in both vehicle modes? Would have solved a lot of issues. Then you wouldn't have train noses on the shuttle wings, nor a shuttle nose making the rear of the train arch up. And there'd be no arm kibble.

That however has been the trend in TF's for many years. Better robots at the severe expense of alt mode, ESPECIALLY for real-life vehicles.

Just makes me appreciate Kawamori all the more. While his planes are fake, they are very nice and plausible, and not big round fat cargo planes which carry 3/4 of the robot inside the cargo bay, which is all Hasbro/Takara seem to be able to design any more.

I know what you mean, I`m also put off by it but remember also an episode when Sky/Jetfire carries the entire Autobots inside of him !

That`s why I prefer TF-Masterforce more logical robot sizes and IMO in some way the anime is more to the original Daiclone comics : Humans piloting the bots but as power supply units, logic robot size and the beastbots are from the Decepticons/Destrons like in the original comic the Dinobots were from the bad guys.

I think the problem with TF is by being a cartoon it doesn't have to explain all the shrinking and stuff.

What they need to do for the movie is remake the entire franchise from the ground up as a standalone movie seperate from the cartoon or whatever fans think of as the canon.

So instead of having the robots go back to normal size (ie starscream shrinking) let them be a giant robot and not afraid to have various sizes of decepticons rather than trying to make them stay to scale with the autobots. (who when they transform from car to robot stay roughly normal size)

If star scream wants to fight in robot mode he has to go outside as a giant but suffer from being massive and slow. (like the dinobots who given thier size and heavy weapons, you wouldn't want indoors anyway)

Have it so that if they want to walk around digsuised amoungst humans they just upload thier consciousness into a humanoid-like robot body. (gits style) This way they have more than one way of diguise apart from being stuck inside thier vehicle bodies or the robot mode of that body. (they can have replacement forms sort of like the way skynet takes control of all sorts of weapons in terminator) As long as people remember that the TF mistakened human vehicles as the native aliens living on earth, this is a plausible explanation for why they began to be vehicles instead of humanoid sized robots.(like the terminators)

This way Megatron could still be a giant robot gun that Devastator grabs in his hand to fire, without the need for shrinking. (because the transformers use all sizes of machines)

And when constucticons combine, instead of jumping in the air, they need a giant robot the size of starscream to manually grab each robot and put it together. :D Once done, megatron can transform into the gun that devastator uses. (rather than the transformation of megatron being a disguise, it becomes a function of another giant scale robot)

I always hated the nonvehicular transformers that kept changing size.

I think that from now on: the robot mode is not thier normal body (transformers backstory should be that they evolved from nanotech viruses that aliens invented or something) but rather it is merely thier preffered "soldier" form.

While their vehicle mode is more thier specialised combat form (think of all the gadgets in the james bond cars) rather than just a disguise alone. If the TF universe was remade to be more realistic from the cartoon version (which itself was hamstrung by the fact that the toys themselves were just toys without being designed for a backstory) then people could start believing in it and taking it more seriously.

Actually, I didn't think that the shuttle mode looked that far removed from reality. It's a little shorter, with a smaller tail fin. The front of the train, is supped to be the engine bulges, that the real shuttle has. It's not really any worse than the steam engine cab that G1 Astrotrain had on the back of his shuttle mode. It's a much sleeker looking shuttle, than G1 Astrtrain. (who's feet became hood scoops behind the cockpit)

It certainly looks better than the mangled excuse for a COE Kowamori gave us, for a G1 Prime update.
