Tuffskull Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Only the missiles are still missing, but the will follow soon. This way you can see the underside better. The decals from Macross are from a special hasegawa add on sheet. The plane itself is a 1/72 Revell F-14-D: Quote
gian7675 Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Very nice! One comment though but it may be just me. Isn't the Macross Kite too small? Gian7675 Quote
Dat Pinche Haro! Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 that looks really nice...i was starting to do an f-14 model but...i got lazy Quote
Tuffskull Posted December 1, 2004 Author Posted December 1, 2004 the macross sign is bigger then the actual one in the kit... by the way armarments are finished 85% just the decals are missing....it will be finished by today!!! Quote
whytwolf Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 VERY nice. BTW which Hasegawa decal sheet did you use, #1, 2 or 3? I'm doing an F-35 in a Macross Zero scheme, and need "UN NAVY" decals. Sean Quote
Tuffskull Posted December 1, 2004 Author Posted December 1, 2004 I think it is the No1 sheet. Weapons are added: Quote
Grayson72 Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Not bad after 10 years, I think the kite looks pretty realistic given the size of the Navy insignia on the low viz F-14's One comment, the panel lines are a bit too thick and dark for my tastes. Did you think about an oil wash? Quote
Skull Leader Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 gah! The incorrect engine fairings of the revell rear their ugly head once more! Nice model! I like the decal scheme, although I would point out that no Tomcat would ever launch from a carrier with 6 AIM-54s unless he was certain he was going to shoot something down with them. The plane would be too heavy to land with 6 phoenix missiles. (land based is a different story though) Beautiful work! I need to build one in a Macross scheme now... Quote
Tuffskull Posted December 1, 2004 Author Posted December 1, 2004 @grayson: I know that my panel lines are really dark. but I like it that way. I think that undelines the comic-effect a little. It is a technique I use on my gundams too. I don`t know if a oilwash would work on a kit painted with waterbased acrylics. Quote
Grayson72 Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Ah yes from that perspective I can see your point. Acrylic paints is all I use, it's the preferred base for oil washed. Quote
Tuffskull Posted December 2, 2004 Author Posted December 2, 2004 then another question....you thin the oil with terpentine, don`t you....doesn`t it destroy the acrylics? Quote
JLYC Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 you should put a clear coat over the acrylic before you do the wash. that way you won't ruin the paint. Quote
Grayson72 Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 (edited) I thin artists oil with low odor mineral spirits. Has no affect on the paint, particulary if the paint is glossy, flat leaves a ring. P.S., I like all the Phoenix missiles, it's supposed to be anime and not real. hellohikaru Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 ah..finally an F-14D in proper UN Navy markings instead of Spacy. Yes it has a vey anime look to it like Area 88. Quote
Damian Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Hi All! Tuffskull I love the tomcat! Nothing quite like the Turkey is there? Cheers Damian p.s. If the Revel F-14D is incorrect which F-14 kit would be better? Fujimi? Quote
newca Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 ah..finally an F-14D in proper UN Navy markings instead of Spacy.Yes it has a vey anime look to it like Area 88. All that I wanna say. Great work! Quote
Tuffskull Posted December 6, 2004 Author Posted December 6, 2004 thank you very much....my next project will be the Zero VF 0S I wanted to do the 1S first but I have these photoetched detail sets and I`m a little afraid of doing something wrong... Quote
Grayson72 Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 You have photo etch sets for the VF0's? Can we get a picture of them? Where'd you get them? How much, wanna sell a set? Quote
whytwolf Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 You have photo etch sets for the VF0's? Can we get a picture of them? Where'd you get them? How much, wanna sell a set? Grayson, I think he meant the VF-1 PE set--as he said, he'd wanted to do a 1S first... And from my personal experience the PE details are not really worth it unless you have FAST packs on the valk--although I do like the extra cockpit details, too bad you can't get them on their own...
