RichterX Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 (edited) as one really creepy and gay Wonka? Is it a remake from the older movie or is a new adaptation of the book by Roald Dahl? Edited November 9, 2004 by RichterX Quote
JB0 Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 as one really creepy and gay Wonka? Hey, Depp beats Marlyn Manson hands down. Thsi can ONLY be called an improvement over the last time I heard about this. Quote

connor99 Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 The name Johnny Depp seems to be synonymous with "off-beat" roles ! Quote
RichterX Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 The name Johnny Depp seems to be synonymous with "off-beat" roles ! Burton and Depp is now of weirdness maximus I thought it was nice by itself the adaptation done of the story of the headless horseman it had nothing to do with the story of Washington Irvine. Quote
Knight26 Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Well at least it won't be raping my childhood I always hated that fragging movie Quote
David Hingtgen Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Burton+Depp were at the core of my fave movie, Edward Scissorhands. If anybody BUT Winona Ryder had been in it, the movie would have been perfect. Now, can we get Danny Elfman to do the music? Quote
Sarensaas Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 If anybody BUT Winona Ryder had been in it, the movie would have been perfect. Ouch. I love the Wini...she stole my heart. Tim Burton gives me hope for this. I think everyone will be wondering what his OOmpa Loompas will look like, and if they will break into morality-teaching songs at any points of the movie. Quote
dr_vandermeer Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I am excited by this movie. More for Johnny Depp than Tim Burton. The original has always been one of my all time favorites, despite not being 100% true to the book. Bring it on, I say. Quote
Solscud007 Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I dont know why Depp gets the rap as weird. I think he is a great actor. Better than Sean Penn. Quote
Anubis Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Depp's a veyr good actor, but that poster still looks creepy. Quote
Greyryder Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Is it a remake from the older movie or is a new adaptation of the book by Roald Dahl? New adaptation. Dahl hated the original movie, and if I remember right, Burton doesn't think highly of it, either. They're trying to stay closer to the book, this time. Quote
Skull Leader Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Starring Johnny Depp. SWEET! Marylin Manson as Wonka himself.... This should be interesting... I'm partial to the original and I'm hesitant to see what they bring about in this new version, but I guess all we can do is wait. Quote
Graham Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Ouch. I love the Wini...she stole my heart. Shoplifting again was she? Graham Quote
Sumdumgai Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 They should stick to the original unedited book... Pffff, oompa-loompas how lame. Quote
Mercurial Morpheus Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 (edited) Now, can we get Danny Elfman to do the music? Considering that he's done the rest of Burton's films to my knowledge, and the fact that the above poster has he's name on it, I'd say the chances are high. Personally, I've always loved the old film. Only Burton could redo it, as I love his work. If anyone can out-do Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, Depp's the man. I'm definately looking forward to this one. wolfx Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 *goes crying to mommy* that's NOT willy wonka!! But tim burton....i wanna watch! Quote

zeo-mare Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 ok were to begin, i was never a fan of the original so i am not to interested in this one, what ever happened to Marilyn Manson he sure looks like he could have played the main part. does anyone know if that was even a real rumor? I like johhny depp alot i think he is a great and highly likeable actor , i look forward to seeing the trailer to this film, but I will probably not see the entire move. i think i will stick with the candy however i do love those Quote
JELEINEN Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I liked the original, in spite of it being a musical. There were some really great lines in it all delivered perfectly by Wilder. I'm not real big on Burton's movies, but I'll see this if only out of curiousity. Quote
Blaine23 Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 The original is one of my favorite movies of all time. I'm pretty skeptical, because there's two Tim Burton formulae in direct conflict here. Tim Burton + Johnny Depp = good movie, at least worth watching. (sleepy hollow, ed wood) Tim Burton + remake = total piece of steaming monkey poo (planet of the apes) I'm curious to see how this one plays out, but I've gotta be honest when I say that I see absolutely no need for this movie to be remade or updated or whatever you want to call it. JB0 Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 ... what ever happened to Marilyn Manson he sure looks like he could have played the main part. does anyone know if that was even a real rumor? I actually heard him comemnting on it at one point(yay for TVs running in public places). Something about how he saw the true nature of Willy Wonka as the anti-christ and was gonna play it that way. eriku Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I guess I've always looked at this Tim Burton project more as his take on the book rather than a "remake" of the original film. He probably has always been a fan of the book and saw a lot of potential in it that the Willy Wonka film missed. Although I'm sure most people would want to crucify me for saying so, I wish a director like Tim Burton, Jean Pierre Jeunet or Peter Jackson would make a new Wizard of Oz film that follows the book more closely. There is a lot of potential there and the original film, although entertaining, seems like a high-school play with bad props when I watch it today. Quote

Solscud007 Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 You can always go watch The Wiz starring Michael Jackson. That movie didnt star michael jackson. He was as supporting actor. Diana Ross was the protagonist of the film. Michael Jackson was the scarecrow. I like that movie. I jsut bought it recently like a few weeks ago on DVD for like 5.50 at Target. Quote

Something called "Return to Oz?" AFAIK, that was supposedly much closer to the books tone. Quote
eriku Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 The Wiz was a reinterpretation, barely based on the Wizard of Oz book. Return to Oz was based on the book Return to Oz, and wasn't really that great. Neither come anywhere close to what a director like Burton, Jeunet or Jackson could do. Quote
RichterX Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I would have like to see Jack Nicholson as Willy Wonka but with the Joker make up Quote
RichterX Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 DeVito as the leader of the scary oompa loompa again with the penguin make up That would certainly scare the kids Quote
eriku Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I hate to make another off-topic post, but Holy Crap, Muppets do Oz! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0422778/ If the Muppets can have a go at it, why not someone else? Back on topic, it's good to see Christopher Lee is still showing up in big films, he plays Wonka's father. Quote

ewilen Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Planet of the Apes wasn't really a remake of the 60's movie...like this film, it was a recinematization of the original book. Not a very faithful one, apparently. Certainly not a very good one. Getting really sick of rehashes here. Spider-Man has been good, but I don't think it was ever done very successfully before. Quote

EXO Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Speaking of Michael Jackson, I heard he was trying out for this movie.... He wanted to be the guy at the end that packs the fudge for the little umpa loompas! Quote
