Transforming MorpHex Robot Invades Your Nightmares

We're huge fans of robots here at Tom's Guide, but there's just something about little robotic crawlers likee the MorpHex that creeps us out. Created by KÃ¥re ("Zenta") Halvorsen, the MorpHex Robot is a creepy crawling hexapod robot that can transform and disguise itself as a ball. It's a lot like one of the miniature Decepticons from Michael Bay's Transformers movies, minus all of the deadly anti-human weapons. Luckily for us, the MorpHex Robot is completely harmless, in fact it will even dance for you and interact with its environment. Unfortunately, one thing it isn't capable of doing, is rolling around in its ball form, though Halvorsen says that function is coming in the future. Powered by 25 servo motors, the MorpHex is quite an advanced robot, despite its creepy skittering nature.

T08A2 Heavy Assault Tank anyone? I'm reminded of the following GitS movie scene with the way it moves.

I realize the thought of an energy field existing between the smallest form of energy( example inertia) exists as a theory but we can't discount the possibility that the field may give birth to other forms of energy research. Take the fusion research being done in Japan and paris I believe it is called cold electrolysis fusion at first it was nothing more than a pipe dream then some researchers took another look and corrected some equations and material and doubled the voltage of a battery. It may take small steps but together they add up.

here is a site on some progress being done

Could someone give some recommendations on good reference/basic design books for aeronautics, avionics and robotics? I'm getting really interested in this as of late, but taking courses isn't really an option at the moment. I want things to read up during long nights :) I figured there should at least be a few individuals interested in such a topic in a forum like this one!

OK, I want to buy a device with capabilities similar to an Ipad, but I don't want to get an ipad. Any ideas?

"Microsoft Surface" or "Nexus 7" are both pretty popular right now, with the surface coming out in october. Although if you want to get something like an iPad, why not get an iPad? haha

Some people, myself included, just are not really fans of Apple... just taking a guess at his reasoning though. I find iOS to be rather boring (it's more or less a highly polished app launcher), and if the Surface is anything like the Windows phones have been (glitchy, lack of functions compared to anything made within 5 years, pathetic app availability and performance), I'll be passing on that one really quick. For me, Android has been the most stable, capable, and functional of the mobile platforms. Oh, and don't forget about the Blackberry Playbook. I've never used one, but have heard they're very well designed. Unfortunately, like most things Blackberry these days, I'm going to guess it'll be too little, too late.

Surface runs on windows RT (windows 8 optimized for ARM machines) and Surface pro runs on windows 8 pro (the windows 8 equivalent of vista/7 ultimate).

I used to not be very big about apple a couple years ago, but I've really become a believer. I used to see them as overpriced, but nowadays, I like the stuff apple has been putting out, paving fields. I even ponied up and bought a retina macbook, which is by far and away the best computer I've ever owned.

I agree with you that iOS can get to be boring, but a lot of people actually like its simplicity and, tbh, polished interface, lacking may hiccups that have plagued Android. That said, with Jelly Bean (I have a nexus 7), things do seem to be shaping up for Google.

We'll see in the future I guess. For now, it seems like Apple is impenetrable....
