Myersjessee
I'm interested in getting some of the Evangelion modelkits, but I can't seem to find out which ones are the best. I'd like a really good set of figures...one for each main character (ideally). They need to be anime accurate and not to sexed up (I have kids after all) I'd be okay with a nice quality CMS type figure or a nice resin kit...whichever is best. Im only going to get one, so I want the right one. More importantly I would like a really good Eva model kit. Am I best off with the Bandai PG kit, or are you aware of resins that are better? (Maybe the Tect kit? ) What scales are available? I know the PG is 1/60...I saw a reference to a 1/20 kit. Any information you might have would be appreciated. Thanks!!! (also...post pictures if you have the kits please!! )
AlphaHX
i did a quick search the other night and came up with two kits that are worth getting. the bandai perfect grade and the kotobukiya kits. both of them are about a foot when finished. they both seem to have their pros and cons and it just seems like its up to preference to decide which one is better. Kotobukiya Description: First offering in Kotobukiya's "Technique Impossible" series. These are by far the most intricate Eva kits available -- multi-media extravaganzas that feature injection, resin, rubber, poly-caps and standard metal screws and bolts that combine to form a finished item which is sturdy, fully-posable and finely detailed. Hard plastic inner, posable frame is covered with soft black rubber liners and then fleshed out with resin and injection parts. Includes spear, rifle, external power cord, three sets of hands, etc. Shoulder panel opens to allow storage of "progressive knife." Jaw works. EVA-01 kit is also molded in transparent plastic, as seen here. Stands about 31cm (12 in.) tall when completed. An advanced kit for serious modelers, and serious Evangelion fans! AlphaHX
Bandai Description: The box itself measures 23" x 12-1/2" x 3-1/2". The figure stands approximately 12" when assembled! This kit features a ball and socket system for full articulation of the limbs and torso. The kit is molded in color, making painting optional. Assembly is required. Recommended for advanced to expert level modelers. Partial list of features: - Multiple swappable hands - Attack sub-machine gun - Pilot's capsule and energy pod - Light-up insignias on chest and arms - Eyes in head light up - Includes power generator and power cable to EVA (batteries not included) - 2 battle swords and mountable scabbards - Scabbards mount to shoulder blade hope this helps. Max Jenius
Bandai's LM-HG kits are nice too. Not perfect... but pretty damn good representations imho.
rkiyo
If you are looking for figure kits, Kurushima had a nice selection: KURUSHIMA Most came with nice clear bases with the 'NERV' logo on them.
zeo-mare
I used to own the Perfect Grade 1/60 kit and i did not like it. the rubber that is placed over the joints makes the kit unposable and is difficult to put on, the purple rib parts are very fragile and break easy, I also do not like the hands for it. we had another thread not to long ago for this we were talking about PG kits and this one got brought up, there was a few people who did not like the PG version besides me. BTW I know they are not models but Bandai Soul of Chogokins versions are really nice and make excellent display peices.
Anubis
I was rather disappointed with the PG Eva 01. Not very posable, the weapons are solid color (purple for most, dark greenish for the knives and gun IIRC), and it looks not as cool as those pics when done. Painting is a must. Not on the same level as the PG Gundams really. The parts detail is nice though, and the light up system for the shoulders easy. The HG Eva's are OK (limited detail and loose joints), but the Chogokins are the best Eva's ever released, period. If budget's an issue then the Kaiyodo Eva figures aren't a bad option either. Very nicely detailed. I still keep my winged Eva-05 posed with the chogokin Eva's. as for characters: Shinji is almost non-existent. Only a couple of him float around that I have ever seen. As for the ladies: I really like Kotobukia's statues. They always seem to make very good sculpts. Hobbyfan has lots of kits, some way to ecchi for your guidlelines, but also a lot of good normal ones, and some plugsuits. Asuka kit search Rei kit search This here is the greatest Misato ever. 1/6 Misato kneeling with gun This is also availab;e pre-painted from hobbyfan is you desire. I have a pre-painted one, and they did great. Edited October 28, 2004 by Anubis
Anubis
The three of these go pretty well together I think. The plugsuit girls are the new sega pvc ones, with the prepainted Misato statue I bought.

NERV
PG EVA is garbage, i wanted the technique impossible kit but i thought that it was out of production. Personally i love the LMHG, their joints can be somewhat loose and the elbows arent too poseable cuz of the molded rubber, but as far as proportions and detail i tihnk they are perfect, an EVA kit shudnt be overly detailed as the EVAs are rather simple mecha to begin with, not too many panels or lines, i never like the abdomen armor on the PG EVA looks boney. this post has actually rekindled my interest int he LMHG kits which i had lost since my LMHG 02 got damaged, that one was my favorite

Myersjessee
I have the SOC toys...and from a novice *(my) perspective they are very nice. I was hoping to find an equally nice larger model to build of at least one of them....

Can't believe I spend my poor limited highschool pocket money to buy that 5-6 years ago. Now its lying in some corner collecting dust. I'm not really into model kits, but now my EVA collection are just the Kaiyodos and SOCs, and some segaprize figures.

sabretooth
way back in the day i purchased 2 eva kits that wer'nt bandai or tect they were plastic and i think the name was either orient hero or some thing each box had static cell image of each of the particular eva profile head they went for like 40 bucks and i think they might have them at mandarake i'll go hunting but they really capture imo the feel of the eva's but they are a real bitch to put together and i mean bitch but so worth it
Phyrox
Just a note, Several posters mentioned that the PG EVA was 1/60. I don't think that is the case. The Gundam PG kits are 1/60, but I don't think you can conclude that all PGs are 1/60 (as there is variation in HG scale, and possibly MG scale between series). In my understanding all the EVA kits are "box scale" (i.e. nothing concrete). I have never been able to find a definite size for the EVAs (which seem to vary in size throughout the anime), and doubt that the PGs are the 1/60. EVAs are certainly much bigger than mobile suits in any event.
