Beltane70 Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 I saw this for the psp in the anime punch forum but it for the 1.0 version I think thats the japan version and the american version is 1.5 I think Nope, new Japanese PSPs are also on firmware version 1.5. I just bought a PSP here in Japan and it's firmware is 1.5.

Note to self: avoid firmware updates. can't, supposedly newer games coming out will automatically update your firmware, whether you want to or not. Actually, you can choose not to, but that just means no more new games... Hate it when they do this

Hate it when they do this Yep it'll be required for newer games eventually http://psp.ign.com/articles/617/617340p1.html May 19, 2005 - If you're all excited to try out that Network Update feature of the PlayStation Portable, now's your chance. SCE America released today the 1.5.1 update that was recently released in Japan. It may not be an exciting update, but it will likely be a necessary one. To update your PSP to the new system edition, either boot up the Network Update feature of your PSP and connect to a nearby HotSpot, or else visit SCEA's PSP Update Service and get the update from there using a USB cable to transfer the updater. Future games will likely also carry the updater for you to make use of, as upcoming games will likely require this new version. As we wrote a few weeks back, this is required security update is already locking out some games until PSP owners run the updater. There's nothing special in the update to rush out for -- SCE put together a few features in the Japanese bump from 1.0 to 1.5 (and also patched a big security hole in the process), but this new update just fixes some features that only programmers and publishers need to worry about. You will be updating your system soon enough when games make the new version required (hopefully, we'll get a major PSP update sometime soon down the line to add some cool features instead of these little security band-aids), so if you're bored and want to get it done, head over to the SCEA's PSP Update Service. We'll keep you updated on more updates
JsARCLIGHT Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 I originally was not impressed with the PSP and was going to avoid it. I played a co-worker's PSP who had Ridge Ricer and a few other games and while it was "neat", the games did not grab me. I was all set to put it out of my mind and move on to other things when I sadly had to ask if he had any other games... then I played Lumines and was hooked. I had to go out and buy a PSP and lumines. I also bought Metal Gear Ac!d but that game does not really "do it" for me. Anyone want to trade? Straight up 1 for 1, PM me with what PSP games you want to trade.
Blaine23 Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 I don't really want to buy one of these things either... but I fear I might want to after GTA: Liberty City Stories comes out. A good friend of mine and I are actually talking about splitting the costs.

I'm getting tired of power cycling my PSP when I view past 8 pages of manga.

Kamineko Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Here's a linky to CPM's PSP downloads. Too bad their library is so small (seems like their newest anime acquisition was like 2 years ago ). Wonder if they are going to do UMD. http://www.centralparkmedia.com/psp/

Ali Sama Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 and you say this on a 41 page topic devoted to the psp... also about playing at an event where taking consouls and pcs are impracticle. yeah. very relevent your comment is.
Black Valkyrie Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 (edited) but I think most of the MW guys have their games/play on mobile phone. Edited May 30, 2005 by Black Valkyrie

Oh, I have a PSP, plus some of the games you mentioned (I have a DS, too, but I don't have any DS games and don't really play with it... I'm kind of just wasting time until Castlevania)... I'm just nowhere near MW Con... or any other con, for that matter.
goldenboy_forever Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 Anybody recive there 1 gb sony pro duo? Man I can't find one any where sony seem to be on back order. I tried to order form dell but they kept on delaying my order. does anybody know where I can find one for 130 shiped? On the side note I just bought ridge racer I can see why people like this game alot. The graphics is awsome the game play is too easy. What I mean by easy is that its almost impossible to spin out so you get to do the phatests drifts. The more drifts you do the faster you fill up your nos gauge. The cars are unique. You do 3 lapes per race so it not like 1000 laps. Does anyone know where I can go to find reviews on japanese psp games/ umd. from Rich

But, the 1gb sticks are in stock at many other places now: Anandtech Deal forums all within your price range. I'm gonna stick out my dell deal until 6/15 and if they delay it again, I'll just buy it elsewhere
Black Valkyrie Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 Indeed Sony is a bad boy just for the money : http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/02/news_6126863.html
Gunbuster Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 LOL! I guess Sony did learn something about pushing a format :: Believe it or not, Porn help push the internet and the DVD format to where we are today
Zentrandude Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 PSP games SLUMPING in Japan? not surprising. seems like for nintendo japan gets the best games that sometimes doesn't get translated and sold in the US while Sony is the inverse of it.

This is my first racer and is alot of fun but would be much better with the music! Thanks!
Valkyrie23 Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Just in case anybody doesn't know, the PSP 1.50 firmware was hacked and you can now run homebrew apps, e.g., emulators. The US launch versions of the PSP caries the 1.50 firmwares, but updates of 1.51 and 1.52 are available for updates. If you've already updated firmwares, the hack won't work (only works for 1.50) The hack is a brute force type hack though, that involves 2 memory sticks swaping. I haven't tried it yet but there are many ppl online who have successfuly and all the emulators based on v.1.0 firmware do work (after conversions). Some emulators require a little fiddling with the settings (such as ramping up the PSP cpu speed). Anyone try these methods yet?
Ladic Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 I hear Football Manager and Winning Eleven will be released for the PSP, when that happens, I'm getting one.
Hoptimus Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 I got real lucky yesterday. For some reason QVC.com was sellling the Sandisk 1gb Memory Stick Pro Duo for $39.99! I already got my order confirmation and it ships out on Monday! They sold out about 20 minutes after I ordered mine.

Works just fine once you fiddle with the framerate and CPU speed. Check it out. Running some classic SNES games.

Not at all. I DL'ed an emulator which contains two files. File 1 - For the smaller memory card File 2 - For the larger memory card (this is where you store your roms also) Boot from the smaller memory card then swap with the larger card. That's it. It's not really a pain at all. But I'm ONLY playing SNES games at the moment......I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Valkyrie Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 I got mine running with the PC Engine emulator last night. Downloaded a torrent with ALL the HuCard games for it too. The whole setup procedure and the swap itself was surprisingly easy. 95% of the games work fine, and it looks great. Also picked up the japanese version of Namco Museum today. Awesome game, if you're a fan of the classics! You can even play games like Ms. Pacman in fullscreen mode, holding the PSP vertically

Black Valkyrie Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 Emulators ! Sony is gonna love`em hehehe, that`s way third parties are afraid to make games for the PSP. Some News : SCE finds pornographic UMDs "utterly undesirable" http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/17/news_6127735.html
Sephiroth Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 I love PSP Video 9! I downloaded/converted a few episodes of Robot Chicken to my PSP for the first time. I need to get Wipeout: Pure so I can try the online browser glitch for myself.

The PC industry in Japan was BUILT on hentai game, much like VHS was signifigantly helped along by adult videos (as the article said).
