UN Spacy Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 No love for Dairugger / Vehicle Voltron? ACtually. that's my favorite as well so I second the notion. Why can't it get the Chogokin treatment? Quote

Inwards Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Baxinger is up there for me, but i know there are many, many rare and wonderful designs out there(somewhere) Baxinger?!? No accounting for taste, I guess but damn that toy sucks. Here's why: And it is for this reason that I really can't get into any of the other aforementioned designs. All of the early combining transformer toys needed piles of extra pieces in order to work. It was a pain and has always seemed like an engineering cop-out to me. I don't mind so much when you have to discard pieces, though. I guess that's why I like Tomy's Eldoran line so much; from this springs Great Ganbalger which, at 16 inches, towers over every other combiner out there. Takara put out some great combiners from their Brave line. I personally dig Great Goldran and Super Build Tiger (which kicks Devastator's ass). If we're talking vintage, I'd have to go with Takatoku'sBig Dai X and Bandai's Voltes V and Diarugger. Quote

It's an incredible engineering feat, but too many compromises had to be made. There's joints and seams everywhere. The 2 Shin Getters are interesting, though. Neat to see how the planes in the 2 packages differ(due, of course, to the design changes needed to make the target mech). Quote
Godzilla Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Devastator is by far the best. You had six robots that were equal in height. the next combiners had 5 in which the main one was bigger that the four since it formed the body. Still I liked superion and Bruticus. Voltron/Lionbot and vehicle/Voltron were cool. Anything else afterwards were lame since they started copying everyone. Quote
LORD KUNGFU Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 1)Voltes V. 2)Lion Voltron 3)JRX rail racer 4)Predaking 5)Mighty ORbots 6)POwer Ranger wild force predazord 7)Daltanias 8)Godmarz 9) shoot.......All the damn godaikins.......... 10)Power Ranger lightspeed rescue super train megazord...Hell yeah! I hated the combiners that you had to add the extra pieces to form the robot like devastator or any of the tranformers. Quote

MSW Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 although I certainly didn't love the toy...powermaster prime...better known as god ginera, IIRC ... he was always pretty cool in my book...I'd love to see a redesign, modified so the tiny little bot forms the head instead of the engine...always thought headmasters was a neat concept...but the designs sucked (I'm not a TF fan at all...but like PM prime for some reason) Otherwise some of the brave designs are mucho cool...I'm particular to the fire/crane/dump/cement mixer/mazer cannon/missle launcher truck combiners from GGG...J-Decker and Exkaiser arn't bad either course Dangaioh from the original OVA series is sweet! defientely among the best looking combiner design ever in bot mode so too, I like Mighty Orbot ... not a great design, but the show was pretty cool. rikiryou Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 SRX (Made up of R-1 Powered, R-2 Powered and R-3 Powered) From Super Robot Wars Alpha for dreamcast Just a little side-info . The SRX made its first appearance in SRW Neo on PS where the robots were actually in normal form as opposed to SD. Even the transformation sequence was take from SRW Neo, except in Neo the same sequence occurs either in space or earth depending on the path you picked. Alpha's was the earth one, not much of a difference. But yeah, SRX is one heck of a transformation. Quote

hellohikaru Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 well...i remember one of them was red color the other was blue. I am not sure of the color of their third member but it could be brown/sand. I remember in one of the later episodes which had 2 parts you see the enemy using a 6 member combiner that attacked different cities on earth when not combined. p.s why do so many shows feature combiners that have the mentioned colors ? If your six robot combiner is this image http://web.mit.edu/sseligma/www/images/star14s.jpg then it's Getter Robo G, aka Starvenger. hellohikaru Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 That's it!!!! That's the combiner i was talking about. I watched it many years ago under the name Starvenger. Thanks all especially Dangard Ace. Quote
ewilen Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 I guess my tastes are pretty far from the mainstream when it comes to combiners...not surprising since I dislike most of them...but I just remembered asking about this one recently because I thought it was pretty nifty: (Apparently some sort of Megazord, which means the series it comes from is probably atrocious.) Quote
ewilen Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 (edited) BTW, how often do combiner stories NOT follow the pattern of 1. Mess around while the enemy plans a big attack. 2. Enemy attacks and individual vehicles launch to fight. 3. But the enemy's too strong... 4. So let's combine... 5. And use the combiner's special attack. 6. So the enemy's beaten... 7. ...for now. 8. End of episode. I'd rather have there be episodes where the combined form can't handle the threat and the team has to split up to do the job. Most of my combiner experience is from vehicle Voltron (Dairugger) and Lion Voltron (Golion) with a tiny bit of Power Rangers thrown in... Edited October 17, 2004 by ewilen Quote
Sam Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 hmm, quite a co incidence this thread, cuz im just getting back into my combiner love ! lol! I reckon GaoGaiGar and the Genesic version RULE at moment, but always had a thing for Dairugger/vehicle voltron, always trying to make it from lego because I couldn't get the real thing! Now I have the Bootleg version, which is a nice start ! But for some strange reason, I really like this $5 cheapy combiner I have no idea its name or anything, found it at Crzy prices or something, and its three little planes that transform into a robot, crazy cool stuff! anyone know what it is? Also Choryujin from GaoGaiGar I found as a bootleg at the same place! but I gave them away DOH!! Quote

robomatt Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Devastator. I wish they would make a diecat masterpiece version of this toy! Let's let Takara get out of the financial issues it is going through first. Banadai maybe could purchase the rights to Devastatror? I can dream can't I? I just like cool toys...I don't care where they come from. Quote
