Pat S Posted October 20, 2004 Author Posted October 20, 2004 (edited) Slow progress due to Counter Strike Source, and Silent Hill 4 taking up my free time. Bought a VF-19a off of sleddogg83 to use some of the better parts (like the knees, and grey arms and feet instead of blue-green). Worked on the feet today. Here's what they look like normally. Ratcheting front and back only. Edited October 20, 2004 by Pat S Quote

Pat S Posted October 20, 2004 Author Posted October 20, 2004 (edited) Here's about as much poseability as you can get out of the stock ankle. Edited October 20, 2004 by Pat S Quote

Pat S Posted October 20, 2004 Author Posted October 20, 2004 (edited) More movement forward for gerwalk mode. It's not even all the way forward. Edited October 20, 2004 by Pat S Quote
Mechamaniac Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 (edited) MMMMMmmmm polycapppss. Drool. I have to wonder how well the polycaps will hold up over time with the weight of all that horrible wonderful die cast pressing down on them.. Looking good! Edited October 20, 2004 by Mechamaniac Quote
Knight26 Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 Very nice, now can you limber up the knee and hip joints to give it a better gerwalk, guess we will have to wait and see. Quote
Solscud007 Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 that is looking so sexy. So have you given any thought to the paint scheme? Oroginal but detailed? or original custom scheme? I think it would be a shame to ruin such a nice mod on a wacky theme. Quote
Pat S Posted October 21, 2004 Author Posted October 21, 2004 Macross Plus YF-19 color scheme all the way. Quote
Ido Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 With that feet modification the leg now look very close to the SHE one. Quote
Knight26 Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Bumpity bumpity bump, status, updates come on... Quote
Pat S Posted October 30, 2004 Author Posted October 30, 2004 Working on using a Hasegawa front cockpit in fighter mode, and the Yamato cockpit nose in battroid. They swap out via polycaps. Very simple system, I think it will look really good when painted. This shortens the nose in battloid because I removed some parts from it, and gives the fighter mode a much sleeker look. Pics next week though. Quote
Wicked Ace Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 You've done some great work! I can't wait to see the update pics. Quote
GobotFool Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 wow, your making the horrid yamato 19 actually look good! Quote
Knight26 Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 wow, your making the horrid yamato 19 actually look good! I would hardly call the Yamato YF-19 horrid. For their frist toy it is really quite good, I would liken it to the Taka 1:55 VF-1, the Chunky Monkey. Compare any recently made VF-1 to a chunky Monkey, or even a custom and the new one or custom is worlds better. I'm sure that given what they have learned in the what, six years, since they made it that if they made a new one it would be worlds better. We can only wait and see about that though. Quote
Pat S Posted November 6, 2004 Author Posted November 6, 2004 Progress continues slowly... I've just been sanding putty lately. Trying to match up the Hasegawa cockpit to the Yamato part. Got some more balljoints from HLJ, so I can finish up the other hip. Quote
IIymij Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 This is awesome~!!! I've been following this thread closely and your work is just amazing. Every modifications make it look 100X better so keep up the good work although im quite curious how you're going to fix the nose Respect Quote
Chronocidal Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 (edited) Lol.. the old Taka Valks are called Chunky Monkeys... maybe the Yamato YF-19 should just be called the pregnant goose? That actually is the phrase that one of my friends used the first time he saw it. Edited November 7, 2004 by Chronocidal Quote
Pat S Posted November 11, 2004 Author Posted November 11, 2004 Progress update... Here's a pic of the detatchable Hasegawa cockpit. I also used the Hasegawa canards. Quote
Pat S Posted November 11, 2004 Author Posted November 11, 2004 (edited) Here's the L-joints I'm trying to use in the upper leg/intake section. I'm not sure if they will be sturdy enough for gerwalk. Edited November 11, 2004 by Pat S Quote
IIymij Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 i know this is a real horrid bit of work but if you make the leg/knee joint like the vf-2ss bandai model it could give you the same effect but look less stick like but like my vf-2ss you have to do a bit of shaving as well but you get more the chunky looking leg part i don't know if you had something else in mind or anything but yea love the progress wanna do mine? Quote
Uxi Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 Wow that is some excellent progress! I'm thinking something like a spring or hinge for gerwalk so that the front can stay locked while the rear rises... I dunno, I really hate the stepped approach. Definately some more articulation in the knees so that we can get a classic Gerwalk ostrich like stance... Quote
Pat S Posted November 11, 2004 Author Posted November 11, 2004 i know this is a real horrid bit of work but if you make the leg/knee joint like the vf-2ss bandai model it could give you the same effect but look less stick like I just looked at my VF-2SS. That's quite a bit of engineering in the leg. It will only support about the same amount of weight though. I would like to cover it up with an accordian type rubber like this lineart. Anyone have any ideas??? Quote

I have so much articulation now, the nose can touch the ground I will have to think about the middle section in gerwalk mode. It would be nice to have it stay down in the front and raised in the rear like the lineart. Quote
GobotFool Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 Progress update...Here's a pic of the detatchable Hasegawa cockpit. I also used the Hasegawa canards. detatchable? There going to be part swapping needed for this? Quote
Pat S Posted November 12, 2004 Author Posted November 12, 2004 detatchable? There going to be part swapping needed for this? Only if you want to add a Hasegawa cockpit like I am. I could probably make it non detatchable, but I don't mind doing it this way, and I think it will look better. Quote

AlphaHX Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 bummer... maybe make a mod to make the nose slide back in battroid mode? Quote
rocco_77 Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 bummer...maybe make a mod to make the nose slide back in battroid mode? There's so many mods to this thing already, I would be afraid if you add a sliding cockpit, the entire thing would just crumble to pieces... LOL! I really look forward to the finished piece... Quote
