My launch date PS2 is on its last legs Edited September 21, 2004 by dejr8bud Quote
Ido Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 (edited) I hope it has a better DVD freader -__- Is amazing how it is small. Edited September 21, 2004 by Ido Quote
Druna Skass Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I have to wonder, how would the network adapter fit on that? Quote
Hikuro Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 LOL!!! its like 1/3 the size of the regular ps2! Bet that's a good 150 bucks still Quote
cobywan Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 It has one built in. Problem is that the Hard drive unit won't work in this case. Quote
F360° Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 ,,, so when will it come out in the us? ,, dont' tell me i have to wait in front of the store for this at christmas time:D Quote
EXO Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 It has one built in. Problem is that the Hard drive unit won't work in this case. maybe it will have a firewire adapter or something Quote
Anubis Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Awesome. I never bought a PS2, this may make the decision to get one a little easier. Quote
bandit29 Posted September 21, 2004 Author Posted September 21, 2004 (edited) The network adapter is bulit in so you don't have to buy one. I wonder what they'll do about the HDD. There's alot of gamers that play this little known game called Final Fantasy XI.. Edited September 21, 2004 by dejr8bud Quote
mechaninac Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Never mind a PS2 redux...when is the PS3 coming out? Quote
JRock Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 When will Microsoft do the same to the Xbox? Quote
Hikuro Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Supposively PS3 and Xbox 2 are around 2005-2006.......and like the previous models it'll be 2 years or so before I get one. Quote
Ghadrack Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 That is really cool, I lugged my PS2 all the way from Chattanooga to Hawaii last year, the new size reduction will make that little sucker extremely handy to carry around. Just by looking at the photo I think that it would be possible to remove about half the Pages from a 100CD case, insert a foam liner and you would be able to carry around a PS2, cables and 50 games in the space of one large CD wallet. The PS2 still has my money for travelling universal media device, games, DVD's and music in a pinch, the only thing that would make it better would be a rechargable battery Quote
zeo-mare Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 wow i did not relize the new ps2 would be so small, it looks good. but i already got one so i do not need this one, it is a shame i would rather have the small sleeker one. chris Quote
Agent ONE Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Just when everyone gets the new one, they will come out with the PS3. Quote
halfan Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I'm more concerned with how hot this thing gets. It doesn't look like there's much room for a cooling fan. Quote
bandit29 Posted September 21, 2004 Author Posted September 21, 2004 I'm more concerned with how hot this thing gets. It doesn't look like there's much room for a cooling fan. I think the power supply is going to be external so that will help out some. So you'll have an AC adapter. They did this with the PSone. Quote
MicronianDevil Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Even when this new, sleaker PS2 is released, Sony will continue making the bigger model for those who want to play FFXI. Or so I hear. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Came earlier than I expected it---which is good, because Xenosaga 2 will SO kill my launch-day PS2. Heck, Ace Combat 5 might, since I like to replay every mission with every plane... And I needed a new controller anyways, might as well wait another 6 weeks. Quote
ewilen Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 The IGN article says it'll be released the first week of November. Odd, it also says that some software won't work with it, "but what those titles are have not been revealed". I wonder how hard it will be to modify it to play imports. Quote
Dat Pinche Haro! Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 i really hope it has a top feed (like the PS1's)...it'll be easier to use them boot disks to play those import games the whole removing the tray cover thing just really bugs me Quote
Druna Skass Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I'm still amazed that some people still have functioning launch models. Mine went kaput after about a year. Quote
Dangard Ace Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I'm still amazed that some people still have functioning launch models. Mine went kaput after about a year. Heh. Mine's fine and running strong. Got mine on X-mas, and it's been to Cottages, Parties, NY parties, and back. It's here to kick ass and chew bubblegum and it's all out of bubblegum. That PSTwo looks kinda cool. It must be the supermodel version. You turn it sideways and it disappears. Quote
Chowser Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 looks like it still uses a tray for loading. oh well, not gonna get it, gotta figure out how to install a bigger hard drive in mine than the standard sony one. november 1 in the us. guess i will go see it in the store, everyone i know already has the original ps2. i stood in line for 4 hours to get the first ps2. Limbo Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 I'm still amazed that some people still have functioning launch models. Mine went kaput after about a year. I don't know what some people do with their ps2... I have mine since launch in vertical position and I NEVER had a single problem with it. Too bad the new one has no hd support... my HDLoader is indeed loaded Quote

Too bad the new one has no hd support... my HDLoader is indeed loaded I agree, only time I had a console break was when my cousin was trying to get a dirty game on SNES to play and kept turning the thing on and off until it no longer turned on. For petes sake, my atari 2600 still works, you just have to be gentle. Quote
Max Jenius Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Tempting... very tempting... If its easy to play imports on, I'll be sold. I wanna play that new Naruto game for ps2. Quote
Phyrox Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Don't think I'll pick this up...my launch PS2 still suits me. Quote
Kin Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Still... I think the PS2 is an ugly designed thing.... It looks like a cheap ADSL modem... Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 I'm glad I'm not the only one who hopes it's top-loading. No matter how careful you are (and I am obsessively careful with discs), most any tray-loader will make some scratches. (Strangely, my car CD player is much much better than my PS2 or PC, it never leaves even the tiniest mark) And the PStwo looks even thinner than the thinnest Sony DVD player, how there could be room inside for a tray mechanism... Quote
Dat Pinche Haro! Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 okay...just saw a link from the second link already posted...saw that the slim ps2 does have a top tray like the ps1's!!! here the other link... http://www.engadget.com/entry/3744286874239486/ Quote
Mellow Yellow Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 (edited) Damn, maybe I should get one since I don't own a PS2 yet lol, I was even thinking of buying a Dreamcast a couple weeks ago. I'm always a late comer when it comes to consoles Edited September 22, 2004 by Mellow Yellow Quote
